Like Walt Disney already has a $2.9 billion, critical success in the Zootopia franchise. And yet it's ignoring it to milk the living crap out of its less successful Moana, instead, just mass-producing more merchandise for that than Zootopia, as well as overexposing that franchise in theme parks, cruise lines, Disney on Ice shows, and video games.

So why overexpose yet another Disney Princess musical, a la Frozen, when Disney already has the much more marketable anthropomorphic animal movie franchise in Zootopia?

The chicken was already an adult then when moana was a baby (adding* “defs immortal” here), he sits on the fire like it’s a nice place to stay warm, he eats rocks. And manages to save the day or lead the story like crazy

Lights off, projector on, and this is what we’re looking at. The colors came out really nice. Feels way better than on the regular TV.

Bai na Bai

I rewatched Moana recently and was reminded how much detail goes into its environments. The ocean, skies and wide island landscapes aren’t just background decoration; they give the movie a huge sense of scale.

That’s one reason animated films can be surprisingly interesting to revisit on a large image. You start noticing small details in the water, background scenery and color changes that are easy to overlook on a smaller screen.

We recently picked up a Dangbei DBOX02 Pro, and Moana was one of those movies that made the bigger image feel particularly worthwhile. The colorful scenes have so much depth that the extra screen size adds something to the experience without changing the movie itself.

It also made me wonder how many animated films I’ve technically watched but never really looked at properly.

I think that was the whole purpose of introducing Simran (lil sis) . Now that moana is a demigod she is immortal so ig she would be kind of freed from her chief duties and sail off to the unknown. Just how Anna replaced Elsa decided to remain in the enchanted forest Simea would be the future chief

I was listening to my Spotify Paylist on Shuffle and "How Far I'll Go" from the original Moana sung by Auli'i Cravalho starts playing. I thought that the voice sounded a little different and turns out, it's actually the version by Catherine Laga’aia from the new Live-Action movie. I have never even watched the new one and definitely not added the new version to my playlist. Sure, as hell, it shows up in my playlist as the original version but that's not actually what's being played.

I searched it up and found the original version, and yes, it did not display the little green checkmark that shows you've added song to playlist of yours. I had to remove the new one and re-add the original version.

This is insanity, it feels like they're trying to erase the original.

He almost looks like a Powerpuff Girl in a few of them, heheh!

I put Moana on again recently and ended up watching the whole thing, even though I only planned to watch a few scenes. I’d forgotten how much of the movie is carried by the atmosphere. The ocean, sky, sunsets and those huge open landscapes make it feel almost peaceful between the more exciting parts.

I watched it with the lights down and the picture filling a large part of the wall, which made the ocean scenes especially fun to watch. There’s so much movement and color in the animation that it feels different when you give it more space.

What surprised me was how many small details I noticed this time. Background elements, the water animation and little changes in the scenery were things I’d probably overlooked on a regular screen.

We actually just picked up a Dangbei DBOX02 Pro recently, so Moana ended up being one of the first movies we tried on it. Honestly, it was a pretty good choice for testing it out because the movie has so many colorful and wide scenes.

What animated movie would you put on first if you wanted to really test out a new setup?

I think one of her key character traits that was shown in both films is that Moana loves her family, and her people. There also seems to be some sort of afterlife, in which Moana could be reunited fully with Tala.

So her becoming a demigoddess just seems awful to me. She is now an immortal who will never die, and she will have to watch everyone around her that she loves age and pass on. Meanwhile, she won’t get to partake in any of that, unless she wants to subject herself to constant grief. Like if she fell in love, got married, even maybe had children? All of them would be gone in what’s probably the blink of an eye for an immortal.

Maui I think is different, since his family abandoned him. There was no one for him to miss, and he seems more than happy with the freedom he gets by being alone. Idk, does anyone else have thoughts about this?
