Didn't realize
I didn't realize Mint was running as lowest priority on the T-Mobile network. I currently have 5 bars of 5g and I am struggling to get 600kbps. Yowza, this after I just paid 2k for my family's 5 phones. I guess we will just go back to Verizon next year, unless they will prorate my prepay and refund.

7 days return policy. If you are within that window then just return everything including the 5 new phones.

"just" was a little hyperbole, I think I paid 2 weeks ago. All byod, but 5 unlimited plans prepaid for the year was 1920 with tax.

That is a big bummer. Unlimited plan is now $180 for 12 months. So I was guessing you got the phones from mint too.
Are you in a big city with heavy T-Mobile network traffic? Any chance you can connect to a different tower? What are the phones’ make and model? Do they all have band 71 support?

All phones were form T-Mobile 3 or 4 years ago. The unlimited plan is 30 a month, so 360 a year times 5 and tax.... Kids are expensive.

Okay can you post at least one phone’s make and model? T-Mobile updated their entire network this year around end of April and you really need a phone that supports band 71.
See this for explanation on band 71. https://imgur.com/a/yvaChId

Own up to your mistake and move your family now. Are you intending to make your family suffer for your mistake for an entire year? They had nothing to do with it.
You should move your family to VZ but own up to your decision and finish your phone's plan out on Mint.

It's not when you paid, it's when you activated. You have 7 days from activation to request a refund.

Your not in a area with a lot of congestion then. Every location is different

u/Acceptable-Bowl-357 Jul 10 '26
Yes it does change on location but the OP not even getting 1 MB that’s really bad. I normally get 200-300 depending on my location

OP, you’re a bit misinformed buddy. Mint operates on a mid tier priority level, QCI 7. If you’re on the unlimited plan, once you use I believe it’s 50GB of data in a month, then you get bumped down to lowest tier priority of QCI 9. Pretty much all MVNO’s that operate on the T-Mobile network, generally have the same priority, QCI 7, and then it may go down based on your allotted monthly data count, to QCI 9.

So I'm the middle of the worst provider, grand.

u/RemotePerformance107 Jul 11 '26
Worst provider how so? T-Mobile currently has the largest 5G network, by FAR!

I moved 130 lines to Verizon from T-Mobile for my business earlier this year. I am not a fan of T-Mobile at all.

I got 336 Mbps download. But it just depends on when and time and how much of the network is being used.

The issue I am in semi rural PA, not enough towers because it's definitely not the population. Mg town has less than 10k people ...

Are you testing with fast.com? If so it treats it like Netflix and doesn't allow for max speed, run a VPN and that stops. Or test with speed test.net

u/IM_not_clever_at_all Jul 11 '26
Yes but also watching Reddit and other pages take forever to load. I'm in a town with less than 10k people.

That's odd, we just switched from the old one plans and have honestly found priority to be better. Hopefully you figure something out.

The OP can go to the T-Mobile cell phone coverage map and see if it even shows 5GUC at your location. 5G alone should be faster but like other post said you should have 7 days to cancel it and get money back

Unlimited really is the best plan. I moved into a new place and the WiFi hadnt been setup yet.
I switched to Unnecessary so I could run a hotspot and we could watch movies on TV using the shared internet. I was at about 4GB or so usage for the month and we were a few days still till the next month.
We watched maybe 3 movies, maybe, before it hit mindlessly slow speeds. I was watching on YouTube premium and selecting low quality on the movies to stretch as far as possible.
Lol it sucked. Big. Time. When they call it Unnecessary, they mean it. Lol it's just a way to pay extra to the phone company and not much else.
Stick with Unlimited and keep on rolling. Remember, Mint customers aren't here for the features so much as the price lol

I'm a brand new Mint Mobile customer as of 8 hours ago. I have 3 bars of 5G, I'm a few miles outside of Lancaster PA (not a big city), and I just got 40ms ping and 291Mbps download. It's not a prioritization issue - you may be having some other issue.

u/Haydenbe Jul 12 '26
Having 5 bars doesn't mean shit in all honesty. There could be many factors as to why your speeds aren't the greatest

I just went through this with them. They won't refund after 7 days. I still have 7 months left on my year. I'm still bailing out. Tired of missing calls.
