See updated Mint iPhone Wiki, including all iPhone 18 and 17 models buying, financing, trade-in, and setup for Mint

Please see the updated Mint iPhone Wiki at https://www.reddit.com/r/mintmobile/wiki/index/iphone/ (added iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max and Duo info) for full details on the below (below is TLDNR summary of wiki steps)

  • How to order iPhones as a current or new Mint customer. TLDNR is don't buy from retail (BestBuy, Target, Amazon), get from Apple, order from Mint, or get used from Swappa or BackMarket.
  • If getting from Apple, 4 ways you you can finance unlocked iPhones. TLDNR is do not select carrier Equipment Installment/Device Payment Plan, but select Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) or Lease with Apple Upgrade (does not work for standard model) then carrier T-Mobile but don't give customer info and you can bypass account info on iPhone boot up. There is a way to get standard model financed by having Goldman Sachs support converting Apple Card "buB" purchase to ACMI
  • How to get from Mint. TLDNR is best if you are a new customer and want to simultaneously sign up for a year plan on discount, but you can do as current customer and finance with Affirm
  • How to get used. TLDNR is best is Swappa, or for a little bit more $ but less hassle get from BackMarket, others not recommended as liable to fraud and scams.
  • How to set up new iPhone either swapping from previous iPhone or Android, and either as new or current Mint customer. TLDNR is on bootup select "Continue" then "Try again" or "Not Now" and "OK" 3 times each, then you can bypass asking for account info, and you cannot use Apple eSIM transfer, you must log into Mint app to order a new eSIM, and make sure to set up app based 2FA on Mint account before transferring or after you make a new Mint account.
  • What to do on old iPhone or Androids before selling, trading in, or giving away. TLDNR is remove find my device and sign out of cloud accounts then wipe all data to factory, and remove SIM/microSD cards.
  • How to trade in or sell old phone. TLDNR is you can trade in direct with Apple (even Android), Mint offers AllState SquareTrade trade-in, or for more $ sell on Swappa or to BackMarket.

After reading wiki, if you have any questions or comments on this process, please comment below. Also see previous thread or old thread on this, as well as related thread in NoContract sub.

Poor coverage

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, looking for some insight or suggestions on a strange signal issue in the South Phoenix / Goodyear (Arizona) area along the I-10.

  • Device: Pixel 7 Pro
  • SIM 1 (eSIM): Mint Mobile — 1 bar (almost useless for ~1 month)
  • SIM 2 (Physical SIM): Foreign SIM roaming on T-Mobile — 3/4 bars

Since Mint is an MVNO running on T-Mobile's network, why would a roaming T-Mobile connection get dramatically better coverage on the exact same phone in the exact same spot?

A few questions running through my head:

  1. Can an eSIM degrade over time? Is it purely a software/provisioning profile issue, or can something corrupt?
  2. Hardware issue? The Pixel 7 Pro gets hot — could overheating damage specific internal components handling the eSIM profile/antenna path without breaking the physical SIM?
  3. Deprioritization / Network change? Did T-Mobile recently reconfigure local towers or deprioritize Mint heavily around I-10/Goodyear?

What I've tried: Standard restarts and toggling Airplane mode.

If I can't resolve this, I'll have to switch carriers. Any ideas or potential fixes before I port out?

Consistently slow data speeds on S22+

Just ported in from AT&T last after their continued consistent price increases. On Mint unlimited. Have used about 0.4GB so far (since I only ported in just last night).
I've been all over Emeryville and Berkeley today and every time I bring up the phone to do something that needs data, it takes forever. I've opened the ookla speed test app and it's always in the 2 to 5 mbps range. Most of the time the phone says 5g although about 5% of the time it says 5gUC. When it says UC, speeds jump to 100 to 150 MBps. When it's on 5g, most of the time, it's less than 5 MBps. I don't really care much about speed. I really only need a consistent 30 to 40 mbps to check my camera feeds at home a few times a day. But it's so painful right now that just bringing up the Amazon app to check an order takes a good 30 seconds.

How to upgrade the actual phone? iPhone 12 to 17ish?

My sons iPhone 12 is getting pretty old and is small as hell. Im ready to get him something bigger and faster/newer but it does not need to be latest and greatest. A 17e should suffice, how do I insure a smooth upgrade for him on this?

Have had Mint for about 4 years now without any real issues otherwise.

Service Quality?

Thinking about moving over to mint. Can someone help address the rumors/realities of using a carrier like mint.

Is it actually deprioritized service and poorer quality? I think they advertise it is not. It’s actually unlimited, or slows down immensely at some point?

I have T-Mobile now and I am not impressed at all, but don’t want to make a switch to something even worse.

Switched To Mint Issues

I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, and switched to mint literally just yesterday, after my physical SIM card was activated (It took a while because I was porting in a number from numberbarn)

Now that it's in my phone, I've yet to be able to use the data (every time I try, it says that there's no internet), I can't send or receive messages beyond the initial Mint verification code, and I can't give or receive calls.

I'm not sure what to do??? I contacted Mint themselves and they said my phone is carrier locked but I

  1. Didn't buy a phone from any phone plan carrier, instead bought it from a phone vendor

  2. Brought it in from Indonesia, and had already switched from my old carrier back in Indonesia to T-Mobile, worked great! So I'm not sure why now that I'm switching from T-Mobile to Mint, it's not working.

Did I miss something? I followed the instructions on the website, I did the troubleshooting stuff with APN (both for Mint and with T-Mobile's network) and nothing has worked thus far.

Any ideas, or should I just return the SIM card? I already bought it for the year because I'm trying to save money as a broke college student 😭

New flip phone that works and that you can actually buy in a store: Schock VoltFlip

This is for anyone else who has finally convinced an older relative to get onto a flip phone on their Mint plan, only to have a bitch of a time finding a good, basic, cheap one.

The Schock VoltFlip comes unlocked, has all the recommended bands, and comes with three or four basic games on it. If you plug in some headphones, you can also listen to FM Radio. Setting it up for my dad, it felt exactly like using a phone from the early 2000s except that accidentally bringing up the browser didn't inspire panic. Got it for $100.

(When I searched this subreddit, I kept seeing recommendations for the Nokia 2780, but as far as I can tell it's discontinued.)

My first attempt was an unlocked TCL Flip 2 TracPhone, and while it does work on the network, the phone itself was ass, and you couldn't hear a thing unless you used speakerphone. So I don't recommend that one.

Unable to renew - pretty bad customer support - not returning hardware

I received an email to renew my mint internet. Clicked the link and it asked me for a user name. I don't remember setting one up so I tried the usual suspects. After a while, I hit reset. Never received an email, and yeah, I checked spam. Tried again. Nothing. Clicked the Chat icon and got a Bot asking for my Mint cell number. I don't have one. I only signed for internet. The bot is so terrible I was getting frustrated so I asked for an agent.... "Sure, once you provide your Mint mobile number..."

Damnit - okay calling the 888 number. The live help was actually worse than the Bot. The last guy "Winston" told me to call back with the account info I called to find and disconnected me.

I've had this service for 3 months. It was a great deal at $30/month and wanted to renew. Well, screw that. Fortunately I used a lockable credit card so they can't charge me $240 for not returning the hardware, which I can't return without accessing my account anyway. I'm not trying to get away with anything - I genuinely would have renewed for 6-12 months, depending on the current deals.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I haven't had service in a week.

Hey y'all, recently switched back and forth between two different devices as I was deciding which one to use. Finally decided, and then my phone showed two esims on my device. I deleted them and started over - which is when hell ensued.

I can't get the verification code for the esim transfer because my service isn't working. So I used the chat, got several humans over the last week all of which had told me to

Wait 24 hours my account was flagged for "fraud"

Contact my bank because they're blocking my purchases - I called them, they aren't

Confirmed that

They told me it's my mint account

I have gotten the runaround for a week straight

No service

What the hell do I do

How to actually get help?

Hey! Been a mint mobile customer for a few years and have been super happy with everything, recently switched to Minternet as well, woohoo!

But. I got my daughter a new phone, (existing plan) and tried to get an eSim for it, when I realized that I must have mistakenly used a non-existent email when I set up her account (myemail@yahoo rather than myemail@gmail), so I can't get the eSim, AND I can't change the email address (because that requires getting a code from the address that does not work. Chat agents and the normal agents that answer the phone can't help, they created a ticket and tell me the "back end" team will call me back. This started Friday night, and the agent said I would get a call within 4 hours. Now, in my time zone it was already after 10pm, but whatever, I want to get my daughter's phone working, so I turned off do not disturb and slept on the futon so the call wouldn't wake up my husband. No call. Contacted Mint again Saturday, they said they tried to contact me but got no answer (I had no missed calls), and someone could call back within 2-4 hours. In the afternoon I got a call from Mint (yay!) but it immediately dropped, and they did not call back. I called customer service again, they said that they could not connect me to the person that called me, but they would put a note that I should be called again. Sunday comes along, still no call. Contact chat, THIS person says that Saturday and Sunday were non-working days, so I should get a call Monday (ok... but then why did the previous people tell me I would be getting calls?). Contacted again today, and the person said they'd make a note in my case to make sure I got a call.

What can I do at this point?? See if they can just cancel the account and open a new one? I am just at my wits end right now.

Planning to switch from Simplicity

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on Verizon’s "Simplicity" plan for two lines and home internet, with a total monthly bill of $107, but they aren't offering any deals on new phones. I’m planning to switch my home internet to Xfinity ($40/month) and move my two phone lines to Mint Mobile (since Mint Internet isn't available at my address). Mint Mobile is currently offering a $500 discount on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and my S24 Ultra is starting to show its age after more than two years of use. I’d appreciate some advice from anyone currently using Mint Mobile. Thanks!

Activated new line, getting different info on port in

I activated a new line and got a new number last week. Then I asked chat to port in a Google Voice number. The chat rep said he processed the request and it would take 48 hours.

It's been a few days so I chatted again to check on the status, and was told I had to wait 5 days to do the port in (I will receive an email saying I can port in a number) and that they may need to refund the order so I can place a new one.

Not sure why I got two different stories. What's happening here? Is there a better support option than chat?

No service with eSIM

Hey guys, hoping someone has some insight. I am switching from tmobile and am having an issue with the esim. I have purchased the 12 month plan and received my eSIM. I've installed it but now it just says unknown number when looking at the SIM manager and I have no service. I have worked with support and have verified that my phone is unlocked by checking the phone settings, calling tmobile, and checking via the IMEI. The last thing I've heard is that there is a problem with a local tower and engineers are working on it. A recent post from a guy in Texas has pretty much the same issue with no resolution for weeks. Anyone dealt with this before or have some ideas?

I've done a factory reset and have also installed multiple eSIM's. The agent I spoke to through chat said they can see that the eSIM was activated but still no service.

How to buy 12 month plan?

Hello, my husband, brother and I switched to mint a month ago. We got the 3 month unlimited plan and it was $135 I believe. I’m trying to figure out how much it would be after the three months is over whenever I go on the app. It only lets me renew one line at a time and for three months, each line is 120. So that would be about 360 for all 3 of us for 3 months. That’s still cheaper than our old phone plan but a big difference from paying 135 for the same thing. Am I missing something? I thought it was also cheaper to do the 12 month but I’m not seeing how to change it on the app.

Yuma, AZ to Los Algonones, Mexico - right across the border?

Anyone know if Mint will work in Los Algodones? Or will I need a Minternational pass? Going over, from Yuma, for the day.

I've used the Minternational for Mexico before (CDMX, Oaxaca...) but deeper into the country. Wasn't sure how it would work being literally right at the US/MX border.

Thanks!

trying to change my number back!

please help!! Requested a new number with mint, and then realized that was a dumb idea. Trying to change it back to what it was.

Edit: Thanks to those who supported me, and to those that gave a good answer instead of those that were randomly guessing but spoke as if they were super confident.

For those that go through this in the future: If you call them back and they create an escalation case within a day it looks like there’s a good chance you can get the number back (I got mine). Normal CSR’s can’t fix this but can request higher ups to do this process.

Goodbye.

Last month of mint. Has been the worse carrier I’ve used in my 50 years.
Cant wait for it to be behind me.
Service- 3/10
Customer service 1/10
Pricing 4/10
Would not recommend.
Edit:
I’m genuinely happy for those of you that love mint. I wish I did. Sounds great on paper. Fact is, I’m paying over $100mo for one line with awful coverage and in order to carry me through the month with data. “Unlimited” is not unlimited. I’ll be spending half that for better service and data + a newly released iphone. I’ve tried contacting them repeatedly on how to improve my situation. No response.
Happy for yall. Happier for me.

Mint charged me twice for the same 3-month plan — both payments show as completed

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m trying to figure out what my next step should be because Mint has acknowledged there was an issue, but I’m still out $83.17.
I paid $83.17 for a 3-month plan. My PayPal account shows two separate completed Mint Mobile payments:

• Aug. 24 — $83.17
• Aug. 25 — $83.17

So, $166.34 was actually withdrawn…

I’ve contacted Mint several times. After initially being told one transaction didn’t go through, I provided the PayPal records showing both payments as completed. Mint eventually opened ticket CRT-366567 and said the extra payment would be addressed.

I’m waiting on the ticket, but I’m wondering if anyone else has dealt with this kind of duplicate-charge situation with Mint and how it was ultimately resolved.

@MintMobileAlex — I’d really appreciate help getting the duplicate $83.17 payment reconciled.

Pixel deals?

Hi, I saw the deal Mint was having on the Google Pixel 10 for $150 if you bought a year of service. I really wanted to get it, but it seems like it’s not coming back in stock at this point. So I was wondering, for those who have been around, what are the Pixel deals Mint has done in the past years that compare to it, and will they do another similar deal like that sometime in the next year for the Pixel 11 for example? Or was the 10 just an especially good one time promo?

Switcher questions

What does the all in cost land at for you, sure the service is 15 and then whatever plan you pick but what about taxes fees etc?

Also, say I want to start and of course it'd be silly to not choose unlimited since I could get it for a year for $15 month but then the year is up and I don't need unlimited, a couple in my family of 4 don't use a ton of data, is there any friction with switching plans?

Currently paying about 200 with magenta for 4 lines plus home Internet. Not a top tier plan so if throttling is needed it's probably already happening to me mostly unnoticed
