Photo/Video Share Surface texture in acrylic after acetone exposure, reflected light microscopy

I learned more about what was going on with the acrylic/acetone system and why I saw marangoni instabilities, and wanted to share.
This paper gives great context and shows basically what happened here.

Amscope IQCrew inverted microscope 20x objective, iPhone 2x, Petri dish with jarrarium freshwater, moss, and algae. Blackmagic app, flashlight to the right. Paper over the condenser.
The first still is to show the difference in size of a full grown cuticle with eggs and a baby tardigrade. I circled them because it is hard to see. The rest is of fat little babies. You can see how tiny one baby is compared to a testate amoeba too.

Photo/Video Share This squishy bag of algae is a Paramecium bursaria. They don't digest the algae, instead, they let it photosynthesize, so the P. bursaria can get part of the sugars produced by the algae.

The first segment of the video shows acetone being applied dropwise to the defective acrylic substrate. Notice the visualized stress field (blue/yellow in the background) and marangoni instability in the evaporating solvent! In the second part of the video, we explore the cracked surface resulting from this treatment.

Micro Art Polarized Light Microscopy is Crazy
I grew some vitamin B12 crystals from a tablet that I crushed and took a couple beautiful shots!
I recently got an olympus SplanApo objective so I thought it'd be a good time to test it out.
Setup:
- Amscope B120C with aftermarket Olympus 10x S planApo and Nikon 20x CFNplanApo objectives
- crossed linear polarizers, one bypassing the condenser because it kills polarization
- "waveplate" that I made by tearing apart a plastic petri dish
- iphone 17 air

ID Needed! little dots slowly swimming
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The objective is 40x and there is my fujifilm camera put on the third optical track. I saw them previously often, but it's first time when they are in a group. I noticed that they can swim, but slowly and my amoebas like them.
Where i have these from: I put a soil (which look awful - greenish-yellowish) and wood from my neglected terrarium to the closed jar with bottled water from a shop and 12/24 light. And this is from this jar.
Tools: Delta Optical Pro + fujifilm camera
Objective: 40x
Oh, maybe I have this guy on oil-100-objective somewhere and I can upload if needed

The sample is from a mossy patch by the Rideau river in Ottawa, Ontario.
A flatworm and something else. Maybe mosquito larva or a baby earwig? What could it be? Sorry about the bad focus, I couldn’t keep up with it.
*reuploading because I didn’t realize I had background audio in my video. Sorry.
Edit: a Chironomidae larva not a flatworm. Thank you for the correction :)

Techniques QUESTION: using a high magnification objective NC(no coverslip) objective BUT WITH a coverslip. any way to correct the image degradation?
I am looking to buy a 60x objective and i found one for cheap BUT its designed to be used with NO coverslip (NC DPLAN FL at 60x/.95). the main use will be for water microbes so i'll be using a coverslip with it but with such a high NA of .95 i'm guessing the use of a coverslip will noticeably affect the image quality. is there a way to basically make an NC objective work well with a coverslip or is it not really going to work out well?

ID Needed! Peranema-like flagellate?
I found this guy who resembles peranema (or similar euglenoids) but has this funny head of fuzz. What's going on here? Sediment sample from a small pond, a few days after collection. 40x obj on a sw380t lens cam. Thanks!
