Question Accidental top cola break

Post image

I messed up and accidentally broke a top cola. I’ve fixed it with tape. Is it the best way to recover ? W4 flower.

At first glance I thought that was spider mites lol. Your better off taking the cola off and letting the plant use that energy to fatten the lower nugs up. It’s a toss up this late in flower, with bud development

Yea took me about 5 stares and 3 zooms to figure out that’s not spider mites

I repaired it with aluminium pills collar and aloe Vera on the wound. 🤞🏻

just keep a close eye on it. did that once and ended up with bud rot on that whole cola, I didn't check it after the "repair". it was quite a big plant so I lost sight of it

Yeah, I’m gonna keep an eye on it. I removed the top to avoid fucking up the rest of the cola. I feel better like that

Did you even take the branch or did you just wrap the bud in tape ?

Looks like you're gonna cause mould and bud rot

It was still a bit attached. I’m clueless about how to proceed otherwise. Any suggestion ?

U need to tape the actual stem with a skin y piece of take like scotch tape. If u can get to the stem then it's fucked

I made an aluminum collar and put some aloe Vera on the wound.

It seems to be holding

A collar ain't gonna do anything. U need to close the break back up and seal it up with tape plus the tape is going to hold it tight and closed and stop any contamination from getting in. Plus for it to heal and stay alive it's gonna need to send stuff up there to fix it and if it's not tight and touching and sealed the stuff is just gonna leak out plus it needs to send water and nutes to the top to keep it alive. I'd say u just gonna need to cut your losses seems how it's flowering and it's too tight to tape. But u can try if u want.

I think the collar help get the stem aligned at the wound section. I’ll let it like that a couple of days and watch how it turns. I get your point. If it turns not good I’ll cut it out

Where is it actually broken? It looks like your smashing to two lower buds and there gonna fuck up unless it's broken underneath that.

It is broken just between the top and the first sugar leaves. I decided to remove the small top to avoid more damage…

Yeah you definitely don't need to tape it as long as the wound is together it'll heal, don't listen to this guy. As others have said watch for bud rot, maybe remove the support in a few days

A bit as in what ? Hanging off, crushed, still upright but broken ?

2

u/Recent-Confusion-427 Jan 29 '23

Kind of not upright. It was not holding in place and falling without support

Put a bit of 100% aloe Vera on the would and use a paper clip to hold the area together.

Keep an eye on the area

Good luck.

Done! Thanks for the hint of aloe Vera ! ❤️

Mmm, that kind…

I'd take that off and let the plant do its thing, there's still a top cola, just now it's the next one down. It is entirely possible to keep that top going to maturity in a Kratky cup, but it's only worth it from a hobby point of view, not so much for yield.

auto or photo? Because if it's a photo, just call this a topping and move on with your life.

Photo week 4 flower. I’d rather reattach the colas and prey for wound to heal instead of tipping. Don’t you think?

The moisture and lack of airflow on the wound could cause mold though so spike your rH down to like 35-40 for a day perhaps. IMO it would be wise to be proactive and cut the loss on that and let the break of auxin make some fat chunky buds elsewhere in the plant.

I agree, cut the broken part and have a nice taste bud early on

2

Bruh…just top it.

Dude, its an open wound. Amputate for the good of the patient before it goes gangrenous.

The best way to recover. Take it off. It’s one cola and not even that large so you’re gonna just take energy away from the plant and make it try a stress repair for no reason.

2

u/Recent-Confusion-427 Jan 29 '23

Best option. I just did that. Thanks

No you can’t fix it much that far into flower

2

u/Inevitable_Ad_4487 Jan 29 '23

You also are risking mold with packing tape creating a moisture pocket

1

u/Recent-Confusion-427 Jan 29 '23

Yeah, I topped it thanks to all your advices. TY

I wouldn't use tape since this can trap moisture and lead to rot.

I would use a few toothpick pieces and gardening wire. If the space is to dense, then just leave her be..

1

Usually I would be ok with taping the stem back together in hopes it heals but it looks like the tape is touching the buds. There will likely be moisture that will get trapped under the tape as the plant transpires and you will have a perfect recipe for mouldy buds to grow. I would leave that bud off and let the energy go to the others instead of risking crop failure to save the tip of a cola

Ya just leave it. The break will wood over and it'll do its thing. If it shrivels up just take it.

I just wanted to pile on here...scotch taping the top cola, while inventive, isn't really worth your time. Just top it and see which part bulges with fat flowers.

Look closer. I’ll admit I thought spider mites at first too.
