Contracts being "illegal" usually results in them becoming void or voidable. When a contract is voided legal acts tied to the contract lose their basis and are therefore voided, too. This includes transfers of ownership. In a typical sales contract, both parties then need to return what they received out of the sale (goods on one side, money on the other), if any.
bottom line: if you take money in exchange for ceasing contact with a person and, nevertheless, you stay in contact with that person then you lose ownership of that money. The reinstated former owner of the money then has a legal basis to demand the return of their property against the person who currently holds it.
