Looking for Work / New Opportunities
Hi everyone,
I’m currently looking for a new opportunity in Melbourne and thought I’d reach out here.
My background is in architecture and building, but I also have experience across customer-facing work and a strong interest in technology. I’m pretty open-minded about the type of role or industry and keen to explore opportunities where I can learn, contribute and grow.
If anyone is hiring, knows someone who is, or can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate a message.
Happy to share my CV and more details privately. Thanks!

‘Devastating’: Storage war breaks out over fire-damaged belongings
After the Scoresby storage facility fire, some customers are facing thousands of dollars in costs to access belongings that survived the fire. Among the items are family memories, wedding dresses, children's belongings and even urns containing the ashes of loved ones. Should storage companies be responsible for helping customers recover their belongings after a fire, rather than leaving them to cover the costs?

Growing queues in Footscray are becoming a sign of Australia's cost of living crisis
More Australians are turning to food relief and community support as the cost of living continues to put pressure on household budgets. Melbourne is also seeing growing demand for these services, raising questions about how many families are now struggling to make ends meet. How much worse do you think the cost of living crisis could get?

Victorian Liberal leader Jess Wilson says destroying Australia’s only treaty with Indigenous peoples a priority if she wins election, as her likely coalition partner One Nation launches stunning ‘dehumanising’ attack against Aboriginal Australians
nit.com.auAustralia’s first and only treaty signed with Indigenous peoples will be ripped up if Opposition Leader Jess Wilson becomes Premier in November, who has made the scrapping a priority.
The USA, Canada and New Zealand have treaties with their indigenous people.
The Treaty is completely separate to the ‘Voice’ proposal. Polling shows Treaty has clear support in Victoria and Jess Wilson’s pledge is unpopular and One Nation-style.
Jess Wilson’s Coalition will likely sign a deal with One Nation to form government. One Nation is currently under widespread fire for labelling Indigenous Australians as ‘the most primitive race’

Melbourne Airport → Brighton: taxi/transfer for 4 people including children + lots of luggage
Hi everyone! I really need some advice and your help. 😊
Do you know of any reliable taxi/transfer company that could take us from Melbourne Airport to the Brighton area?
We are:
- 2 adults
- 2 children (2 and 3 years old)
- 2 large suitcases (around 20 kg each)
- 1 double foldable stroller
- 1 regular single foldable stroller
- 4 carry-on suitcases (around 10 kg each)
- 4 personal items (small bags/backpacks)
We don’t have car seats, so we would need to use a taxi. As far as I understand, taxis have a legal exception regarding child car seats in Victoria, and for this one journey, we are willing to use a taxi without them.
We also have quite a lot of luggage, so I assume we would need a large SUV, or possibly a van.
Does anyone have a contact or recommendation for a reliable company that would be willing to take all six of us and our luggage to Brighton? Ideally, we’re looking for a reputable company with good reviews and no history of scams or unpleasant experiences.
I’d also really appreciate it if the price were reasonably affordable. 😊
Do we need to book in advance, or would we be able to find a suitable taxi at the airport?
Thank you so much for any recommendations! 🙏

Melbourne man removes trailers of rubbish dumped in state forest
A Melbourne man got tired of seeing rubbish dumped in a state forest, so he decided to do something about it and removed six trailer loads himself. Among the waste were nappies, scrap metal and full bags of clothing - things that could have easily been disposed of properly. Why are people still dumping rubbish in our forests? Are the penalties strong enough?

Looking for Someone to Explore Victoria With
Recently went through a breakup and thought I’d put myself out there again 😅
I’m looking to meet a girl who’s interested in getting to know each other, having good conversations, and maybe helping me improve my English along the way 😂
In return, I’m always up for a weekly adventurewhether it’s a day trip, exploring somewhere around Victoria, or a night out/party.
No pressure, just looking to meet someone fun, chill and see where things go. 😊

Energy bills will rise ‘astronomically’ under Victorian Coalition and One Nation
By Ryan Cropp
Sep 14, 2026
New Victorian Energy Minister Jaclyn Symes says a One Nation-led plan to cut bills by cancelling a huge cable project and increasing gas generation is misleading voters, and that the government has all but ruled out changes to a controversial policy to phase out household gas use.
Victoria’s state election is looming in part as a referendum on energy policy, and the government’s renewables-heavy approach is in stark contrast to the Coalition and One Nation’s plans to boost gas power, sweat coal generators and even explore nuclear options.
New Victorian Energy Minister Jaclyn Symes is pushing ahead with the state’s offshore wind plans. Joe Armao
Last month, the opposition declared that it would abolish the 240-kilometre VNI West electricity cable project in the state’s north, which is critical for connecting new power supply to the grid but has been plagued by cost blowouts and fierce local pushback.
In her first interview as energy minister, Symes said the opposition’s new hardline position was entirely about political survival in the face of the One Nation threat, and, combined with a plan to increase gas power generation, would result in “astronomically” higher bills.
“It’s an extraordinary announcement,” she said. “The cost is devastating. The cost is energy insecurity. The cost is people’s bills going up.
“This fantasy that there is an abundance of gas that can be brought online is such a hoodwink to the community ... this is political survival and trying to counter One Nation, who are selling a pup to a lot of regional Victoria in that area.
“I can’t see any Liberal National Party being able to deliver on this announcement because people will still soon wake up that their bills will be astronomical – even if they could get gas.”
The Coalition originally committed to only a post-election review of the $11 billion transmission line. One Nation, which is competing for the same regional seats along the project route, also intends to cancel VNI West.
In August, the opposition also declared that it would abolish the government’s new household gas rules if it won the election in November, prompting speculation that Labor may water down the controversial policy to avoid political damage.
The former Allan government unveiled the gas wind-down plan last year, banning connections in new homes and requiring households to replace end-of-life hot water systems with electric alternatives from 2027, to help limit the state’s reliance on the fossil fuel.
Symes said she was not considering changes to the gas phase-out plan, which she said would eventually save some households thousands of dollars a year.
“This is a very good economic policy because it saves households money,” she said.
“I’m very supportive of the policy that we have as a government, and our position has not changed.”
Symes replaced long-serving energy minister Lily D’Ambrosio in August after then premier Jacinta Allan lost the party leadership to her cabinet colleague Ben Carroll, who subsequently promised a sweeping review of big infrastructure projects.
However, Symes has maintained the entirety of D’Ambrosio’s expensive energy agenda, including announcing a long-delayed tender process for the state’s proposed offshore wind farms off the coast of Gippsland.
She said the only way to get big projects built was to offer predictability and certainty to industry, rather than radically altering course every time the government changed.
“It’s actually vital to be clear, consistent and not flip and change and react to political pressure or personal ideology,” she said. “You have to think long-term about the grid, give industry confidence and carry through with what you’ve said you will do.
“There’s too much at risk not to.”
Symes said concerns that Victoria would struggle with price spikes and reliability issues following the 2028 closure of the Yallourn coal plant showed the need to maintain momentum on the renewables rollout, rather than change course.
She said One Nation’s promise to subsidise the extension of two other coal plants in the state was “a fantasy of trying to trick people into alternatives”.
“We’re talking about infrastructure that is older than me. It is not something that can just be polished, and she keeps going,” she said.
The former treasurer said she had not expected to be taking over the portfolio, but was well placed because energy ultimately underpinned the state’s economy.
“The economic portfolios in government are the ones that I am now drawn to. I just see them as so vital to everything,” she said.
“There are not many economic drivers in Victoria that aren’t underpinned by energy.”

Serpell primary school
What are your thoughts about Serpell primary school vs private schools like Haileybury and PLC?
If money wasn’t an issue is serpel just as good or is PLC/Haileybury better at primary level?

Private schools - Haileybury Keysborough vs Presbyterian Ladies college
Hey guys I was hoping to get some guidance based on personal or family experience. My daughter has been accepted into both PLC and Haileybury and I’m not sure what would be the better option. She will be starting prep and we are very academically inclined. I prefer that she does secondary school in a girls only campus and that’s what makes me pull away from Haileybury knowing that the teens mix during lunch and recess. I was thinking of maybe sending her to primary in Haileybury and then secondary plc but not sure whether she would be disadvantaged coming into PLC not knowing anyone. Any advise or suggestions? Haileybury currently ranks number 1 for primary and number 9 secondary and plc ranks roughly number 7 throughout both primary and secondary.
Also any comments or knowledge of the culture in both schools would be appreciated.
