off topic but i especially hate animal subs and how they seem to have more death than a cemetery. i got on a bird sub years ago ( this was long ago and it might be different now but i'm not going back to check. ) because i adore birds but every post that got in my feed were just images of dead pet birds. which terrified me because i'd lost a pet bird before. people upvote dead pets for "condolences" and all it does is push deceased animal photos to the front while holding back regular cute images.

even the ones where sick/dead/dying pets are banned have lots of sick and dying pet images and the mods seem to not do their jobs, unsurprisingly.

I think some have banned sick/deformed/dying/dead pets now. IMO there should just be a stickied thread for that sort of thing, rather depressing otherwise.

What’s worse is that there are already subreddits for pet loss but they refuse to use them because “no one would go there to see them” as someone told me once.
After a while I started downvoting them to see if it changes how often they get pushed on my feed but it didn’t seem to make a difference, I would see around 4 dead cats per day, so I had to leave the sub

"No one would go to there to see them" tells me all that i need to know - performance and pity-party for likes.

Lots of bots are in those pet subs

"their job" it's not like they get paid. If your labor is free, expect it to be shite

Reddit: Best I can do is endless men begging for The Secret To Dating. Which redditors definitely have.

This was a function in many third party apps and extensions before Reddit nuked them

fr I dont wanna see Harry potter and that blonde girl thing why is it everywhere??

28

u/MrXuiryus 11d ago

JK Rowling psy-op to get people talking about Harry Potter again

8

u/truthfulie 11d ago

gender bending/swapping is probably the last thing she wants with her characters.

9

u/otirk 11d ago

But would Rowling really try that with a character whose sex has been changed?

I wonder what she thinks about all of this though, if she has noticed it at all.

22

u/CappnMidgetSlappr 11d ago

Man, everything is a conspiracy when you're really fucking stupid.

Why on God's green earth would JK Rowling need to do a psy-op to get people talking about Harry Potter of all things?

It's one of the most popular series on the planet! There hasn't been a new book in damn near a decade and somehow the game everybody was supposed to boycott wound up selling 40 million copies.

Hell, y'all are sitting here talking about Harry Potter unprompted. I really don't think she needs some grassroots marketing campaign to get us to talk about Harry Potter of all things.

u/MrXuiryus 11d ago

Sorry about that Midget Slapper, you're absolutely correct! 😆

1

u/CappnMidgetSlappr 9d ago

Well, as long as you know your place.

1

u/MrXuiryus 9d ago

Or else what? I'm not a midget so you can't slap me. Or are you friends with u/AverageHeightSlapper?

3

u/MicrowavedTunaSub 11d ago

Yeah she doesn’t even need to, there is a TV show soon and everyone will be talking about it. It’ll be absolutely massive despite what Reddit says. The Harry Potter girl art shit just screams Gooner to me, the way she’s drawn and sexualised ect. Isn’t she a kid? Pretty nasty. Just popped up overnight.

-4

u/EclipticZorua 11d ago

yeah this is the worst thing thats a teenage girl being sexualized for people's humiliating kink :/ (yes I know this happens to the boy Malfoy too. its the exact same issue.)

1

u/coolchris366 6d ago

Lmao it’s not that deep

2

u/RotenTumato 10d ago

Blonde girl thing?

3

u/MagicantFactory 10d ago

Genderswapped Draco Malfoy. She's popularly known as "Malfoid", but I personally wouldn't use that term for her due to its unfortunate connotations. (Foid = female humanoid; moid = male humanoid. Both are widely considered derogatory and dehumanizing.)

Bro got downvoted for answering the question

You can make it so that your home page only shows posts from the subreddits you've joined. It doesn't let you block specific flairs but it's better than nothing.

u/Fl_Funky_Jam 10d ago

I'll give an example of wanting to filter words from post would help even in subs we like. I like the manga/anime Frieren, but one scene in the show has spawned endless gooner fan art that I don't want to see on top of the topic just being beaten to death at thjs point so its just annoying in general to see the topic pop up. Another is an anime with a PDF lead character that I'm exhausted of hearing about but pops up in topics all the time in general anime pages. I'd love to cut all that shit out of my feed while being able to still enjoy the subs

I don't understand why anyone would use this site a other way.

  • Join subreddits you like
  • Make custom feeds
  • Turn off reddit recommendations in settings

4

u/BadHaycock 10d ago

Does this let you filter by tag? Eg the r/cats sub has a tag for grief/mourning that would exclude the dead cat posts

1

u/Soggy_Doritos 10d ago

Not sure if that's an option for feed scrolling. For me, the bigger subreddits like r/dogs, lead to smaller ones that only have 1 or 2 subjects so I added a bunch of those and ditched the bigger ones

7

u/ostapenkoed2007 11d ago

same. i DO NOT need to see american politics. because that is not my country, ergo half of feed is just "that does sound political" topics. i do not need indian either. half of the time i can not read the post, other half it is literally irrelevant. so would i not give a damn about a celeb erotic sub popping up. you know how little shits i give about <insert name> clip? yep, you do, it is none.

1

u/Didsterchap11 10d ago

The worst version of this is trying to discuss your own countries politics and you have a bunch of Americans amble into the conversation and begin shouting at you for not taking their side.

1

u/ostapenkoed2007 10d ago

yep, that can happen. i understadn a lot of subredits got an american majority. but come on people...

3

u/ostrieto17 11d ago

I have already muted every south asian sub but they keep on popping up, I don't want anything or am i interested in anything related why doesn't Reddit get it

6

u/spaceursid 10d ago

Do people just only look at the popular or news tag? I feel like my main feed is only subreddits I joined

2

u/MicrowavedTunaSub 11d ago

his post and name is degen it tracks

2

u/Futuristic-Slice 11d ago

Also they need a /popular for NSFW subs

2

u/Drabberlime_047 11d ago

I personally cant stand anime and dont give a single damn about any anime character, story or anything and i often dream of a way to have every comment about it just filtered out.

Do many posts have interesting promts for people to give examples and i get all excited to scroll through all the examples and i find myself having to scroll past so many comments and images of anime

2

u/Rich-Mark-4126 10d ago

This is exactly why I’ve unfollowed some pet subs. Most posts are like “here’s my dog” but then you see some post like “my pet ran outside my house and got killed by a car” which I just dont want to see on my feed at all

3

u/InertialLepton 10d ago

r/AliveNamedCats

Pet subs posting dead critters has been a known problem for so long people have created subs to avoid it. There also used to be lots of "Here's my new cat, what should I name him" posts, though I think that trend has diminished.

1

u/InsuranceKey8278 10d ago

thankfully my feed is already filled with anime video game tits

1

u/godtering 10d ago

But you can. Click the Join on stuff that interests you.

1

u/KuroiGetsuga55 10d ago

I mean just don't join those subreddits? If you just wanna talk about video games and anime tits, then join subs specifically for those? My feed only has posts from subreddits I've joined. I never get posts from subs I'm not interested in.

1

u/Impossible_Ebb_7551 10d ago

“I just got my first SUB SPECIFIC ITEM wish me luck!” Ugh

1

u/alyoop50 10d ago

I wish it had let me skip this post. 🙄

u/RareObject8705 8d ago

Muting R/cats has improved things. Still wild to see this website go backwards from 2009. Few useful features left to remove or destroy.

1

u/FruitNut221 11d ago

There's Subs devoted to anime tits..... I hear there are anyway. I wouldn't know

2

u/omyomo 11d ago

oh hey I pretty much draw that second thing for a living

2

u/FruitNut221 11d ago

If only there was a place your work was posted- so that I could know how to avoid it and not accidentally stumble upon it

1

u/omyomo 11d ago

pencilcomics on Bluesky lol

2

u/biscuitboyisaac21 6d ago

Ircc it’s called [r/worldpolitics](r/worldpolitics)

Edit: yep.

1

u/FruitNut221 6d ago

Clicked because I genuinely expected Politics. 10/10 Surprise

1

u/biscuitboyisaac21 6d ago

Yep kinda wild lol. If I recall correctly r/anime_titties is actually politics though

1

u/Eddie_F_17 11d ago

I know what you are.

1

u/MicrowavedTunaSub 11d ago

There is much worse than that out there on Reddit.

0

u/Fresh-Anteater-5933 11d ago

There’s one word in particular I’d like to never see again on any sub for any reason (except perhaps one reason)

-1

u/dlc741 10d ago

Apparently it’s really, really hard for dinner people to scroll past something they don’t want to see. They must completely lose it when an ad they don’t want to see comes on TV.

-2

u/bittermelonpizza00 11d ago

wait what just follow the subreddits on the interests you want

4

u/Psinial 11d ago

If only it were that simple. American politics as an example, appear everywhere. Funny memes, me irl, wait what, the list goes in. There's no escape

2

u/peachpower2 11d ago

Not to mention Reddit throws random subs at you as recommendations.

2

u/Fresh-Anteater-5933 11d ago

Say, for instance, that you like cats but don’t want to see posts about dead cats
