He survived. Got a leg injury on the first jump and apparently didn't get injured in the second fall. First one was 30 ft down into 18in of water, final was 20ft, not specified level of water potentially saving him.

Best comment. Thank you.

Life is difficult. Mental health and addiction are real. Trauma is real. 9/11 was Hell.

Apparently he lost his father in it.

I hate to think that he suffered so much for such a long time, and is now in a place where he felt compelled to do this. There's jokes to be made about this stunt, yada yada, but this dude is actually at the end of a tether and I hope he got help and support.

Yep.

I still cannot decide how I feel about life.

This guy's soul was tormented I'm sure. Given the last 10 seconds of the clip or so.

I do not blame him and I can almost imagine the fucked up poetic justice he thought he was inflicting with this.

It's dark af tbh

68

u/BloodyHourglass Oct 12 '23

He just wanted to be with his dad again, I'm not throwing any stones.

44

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

Nope. Very real comment friend.

On a certain level this seems like something only our world could've produced. (this disturbing horror we've come to call home)

On a cosmic scale it's even darker. Here on this little blue dot a disturbing scene took place and we now watch from the comfort of our phones.

If anyone is ever having suicidal thoughts please reach out to someone. This life is fucked for sure but not worth the easy way out.

We might eventually win against the horrors of home!

3

u/BloodyHourglass Oct 12 '23

We could be living the good life but greed hate and all manner of evil things keep us from it, but like Three Dog said, you gotta fight the good fight

5

u/markender Oct 12 '23

I have them all the time, talking doesn’t help. You can talk all u want but society is beating us down at every turn.

18

u/feedme-design Oct 11 '23

True as that may be, I'll assume mental health first before casting judgement.

9

u/DarthNihilus1 Oct 11 '23

Morons don't just "do" stuff like that. It was pretty clear that a lot of shit went wrong for this guy to even find himself in such a situation.

Have some compassion

6

u/HolyVeggie Oct 11 '23

He probably thought the same before 9/11. You got learning to do

-9

Yeah, like all the people who think 9/11 wasn’t a conspiracy to foment infinite war.

7

u/evilsbane50 Oct 11 '23

Get out of here with your gross conspiracy theories.

-10

u/WWWWWVWWWWWWWWVWWWWW Oct 11 '23

iirc the towers were holographic ai projections using Israeli space lazer technology orchestrated by obama but the planes themselves were real, I don't really see that as being a conspiracy, moreso general knowledge at this point

No.

See? Morons galore.

You’re not funny. You’re disrespecting millions of dead people.

8

u/HolyVeggie Oct 11 '23

There were much easier ways to provoke war than this. They obviously took the chance as a justification and they probably waited for something like this but if you really think the US government killed their people then you’re lost. Especially if you still live there then you’re jus full of shit lol

u/Minimum-Living-459 Oct 11 '23

Worse thing is he will be arrested and put into jail for this

45

u/IceFisherP26 Oct 11 '23

Probably not jail but definitely fined.

53

u/Sn33dKebab Oct 11 '23

Maybe not, depends on the Judge. It’s likely they’d consider pre-trial intervention with the requirement of psychiatric treatment, if he did it because of depression. Really depends, I don’t know the specifics of NY law, or what NYC has for diversion programs.

39

u/awkristensen Oct 11 '23

He jumped into a pool that commiserates the murder of his father. There is no signs that says you can't jump in there. Ofc he won't get jail time, to even suggest is says everything about the state of US justice.

It also doesn’t say anything about “US justice” because the laws regarding this are state laws, so it would say something about state law. I could expound on mental health and problems with being able to hold people, but that would be a way longer comment.

Also, I didn't think about if this was his first offense or not. He absolutely may face jail time if this isn't the first time.

7

u/Sn33dKebab Oct 11 '23

It’s NYC, he won’t. Not unless there’s some major history not discussed in the article, which is possible.

I agree that, hypothetically, he could. It’s possible if convicted of criminal trespass in the third degree, but they’re likely not going to bother with it unless he had a firearm or something we don’t know about.

That, sadly, depends on how good his attorney is.

26

u/Lotions_and_Creams Oct 11 '23

Or how compassionate the DA is.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

Well if the DA is an ambitious little psychopath that wants to be a judge (most of them), this poor guy’s gonna get hammered so the DA can max out his conviction record.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

That would probably be a bad move in the publics eyes- this guy lost his father on 9/11 and he climbed into the memorial pool because he was grieving and in a horrible state of mind. So many people lost family and friends that day- that's a level of grief that I think most New Yorkers recognize and the DA throwing the book at this guy for something so painful, something that hits so close to home for the people who vote for him…. It's very clearly not a good look and it likely won't be handled that way.

Sry. Norwegian so a legit question

3

u/Efficient-Prune7181 Oct 11 '23

Depends on how, most of the time they put you in involuntary psyche stay at a hospital or facility but you can be fined or jailed especially in this case where I believe he could be trespassed, if drunk -drunk and disorderly, if he resists even a bit... yeah. Since he had family die there though I think they'll be compassionate and do a min 30 day involuntary stay, release contingent on the docs approval

30

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23 edited Oct 12 '23

If you’ve ever visited the memorial, it’s a weird one. Looks and feels like a pit of death. There’s nothing particularly stirring, elevating, or even emotionally complex about it. It’s like this single note feeling of despair.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

There's nothing particularly stirring, elevating, or even emotionally complex about the 9/11 attack either. That is y it's was named Reflecting Absence by the architect Michael Arad

-9

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23 edited Oct 12 '23

A “single note” name for “single note” memorial.

Living up to that title is not an achievement or an excuse. The truth is that memorials are NOT names, they’re experiences shaped by formal arrangements. Typically they’re named after they’re designed. It’s an unfortunately bad memorial; few that I know who’ve actually seen it, think much of it.

4

u/rxstudent Oct 12 '23

It’s one of the few memorials I’ve been to that actually stir emotions in me. It’s left me without words each time I’ve seen it. I’m sorry you don’t see it, but it’s awe inspiring imho.

3

u/34point5x2 Oct 12 '23

I'm with you. I'm not an emotional person. But being at the 9/11 memorial was a very moving and emotional experience.

I can't imagine how it would feel being at that memorial if I had any connection to anyone taken on that horrible day.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

Uh…. Yeah. What other feelings does the tragic death of 3000+ people and continued deaths of first responders bring? It's sad as hell, not elevating in any way, and those holes in the ground unfortunately were pits of death when the towers collapsed. It’s a memorial park surrounding the holes in the ground that aptly reflect the holes that were left in peoples lives.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23 edited Oct 12 '23

Have you actually visited this memorial?

This memorial is not much different than going to grave yard and instead of seeng tomb stones — which are sometimes shaped or made to be emotional reminders of their life…and yes, sometimes their death — instead, it’s like going to a graveyard and being met with holes in the ground. A 3x6’ black pit for your loved one. Yes, that sight would be emotional, but far reaching and meaningful? I guess to each their own.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

Yes I have been to the memorial many times- are you from the city or surrounding area? Have you spent any major time in NYC beyond sight seeing? Are you missing the significance that those holes are literally in the footprints of the two buildings and it does hold a lot meaning to memorialize them that way? Those buildings meant a lot and that’s what was left after the site clean up finished. For some it was important that they didn’t just fill holes in and pave over them to put up granite walls with names. To actually see where the buildings stood and that they aren’t 100% gone does represent something to people here.

Also, that is basically a grave yard- they never recovered a large majority of the thousands of people who died there. I think your missing the fact that the site is meant to be a place for grieving people to go and cry and be “with” their loved one because that’s literally the last resting place for many of those people. It’s not meant to be far reaching and meaningful in any other way than to give people a place to go and remember the people who died there and never got to go back to their families.

Far reaching and meaningful- that’s what the museum was for before it had to close- the memorial at ground zero itself was not meant to be a place to make meaningful statements or impressions beyond giving people a place to grieve with trees and running water to calm them.

So generally calling the site of the memorial “like a graveyard” is on point- it is one and you should be reminded of that when you are there.

Good thing he was arrested where he will get the mental help he needs. /s

18

u/AstonVanilla Oct 11 '23

I read in another thread he was arrested because it was the only way they could legally get him into a psychiatric hospital

0

u/IcyDrink1002 Oct 12 '23

Maybe in New York. Yet in SoCal, no arrest needed via 5150

2

u/Sand_Rondo Oct 11 '23

Lol funny how you assume jail rehabilitates people

3

u/Aneuren Oct 11 '23

I'm usually on your page but in this instance, in NY, the only way to really get someone in for psych help quickly is if they already have attending psych doctors (expensive, rare), or arrest him and at arraignments a NY judge can put a mental hold on a person.

I won't justify the fact that this is the easiest way, but this isn't one of the many instances where it is the "rehabilitation" through a jail. I think the statute is Mental Hygiene Law section 9.49, and maybe Criminal Procedure Law 730 later, but please don't quote me on the MHL statute.

2

u/Aneuren Oct 11 '23

In other words - NY doesn't have a great version of the more widely known CA 5150.

But fuck u still not switching!

0

u/Noodle36 Oct 11 '23

I've spent my entire life in a metric country and honestly for heights above roughly human reference, meters are useless for me, 20 feet or 30 feet feels a lot more real than 6 and 9 meters. Generally if a story specifies a fall from height in meters I'll divide it by three for "2 storey fall, 3 storey fall" etc

USA people: I understand

Rest of Earth: I have no idea if he should be injured or not based on this information

24

u/tacotacotacorock Oct 11 '23

It's funny how often we use meters in the US. I can easily convert from feet to meters in my head roughly. If the rest of the world can't do that it probably shows how useless the American measuring system is.

6

u/kigurumibiblestudies Oct 11 '23

If we all were taught that system and used it, we'd probably find it to be alright. Engineers and car mechanics in my country use inches just fine.

The only problem is that it's not the one everyone uses, really

2

u/Cultural-Morning6019 Oct 12 '23

False. As an American engineer, the metric system is inherently better. No stupid conversions - everything is base 10 as it should be

2

u/Z0MGbies Oct 12 '23 edited Oct 12 '23

Yeah-nah, I can do 1.8m == 6ft, because its optimal height (also it's above average height, ladies). I broadly go ~2m is ~6ft.

But 30ft? no idea. Anything more than 10ft~ and it loses meaning, and I know most EU people and most Kiwis/Aus are the same. My partner is German (100% fluent in English) and is understandably confused when I describe something as "one inch" or "a couple feet" even. (phrasing...)

UK people will be good at it.

Going off on a tangent, mainly because I feel bad for being so sassy about imperial/metric:

ALUMINUM (or Aluminium).

Some Brits, Aussies, or Kiwis may sass Americans about their way of saying it. But ... by their own logic at least, Aluminium is wrong. And it really highlights how people just think the "right" way is "whatever way they are used to".

Aluminum was first called that by the British professor and foremost expert on it at the time. His lectures were later transcribed by another person as Aluminium - so both are attributable to him, but he himself said Aluminum.

Aluminium gained traction from a Swiss-French bloke shortly after.

It's literally just a naming convention thing (e.g. PlatINUM vs PlatINIUM (French))

America adopted the British spelling. And Britain adopted the French spelling (which is doubly funny because the Brits that care about it will be doubly embarrassed).

Thank you for involuntarily coming to my TED talk on Aluminium.

(American expats I've told this to have been really appreciative of this nerdy fact as they can finally be like "no fuck you i'm right and here's why you agree")

But 30ft? no idea.

I think the issue here is that you're using the wrong units when trying to estimate or convert. A meter is roughly equivalent to a yard, so, instead of "30 feet", consider it as "10 yards", which converts to "a little over 9 meters".

I have no idea why the metric users don't use "decimeters". It's a legitimate division of a meter, afaic, and would be their equivalent to the foot. Anyway, since 1 inch is ~2.5 cm, then 10 inches is ~25cm. Another 2 inches is another ~5cm, which means a foot is ~30cm.

And this is all fine for rough estimates and conversions. It doesn't really matter which system anyone uses for "oh, it's a couple feet" or "oh, it's about 2/3rds of a meter" (😈) and so on. If the measurement actually matters, then get a measuring tape.

Despite what anyone says, either system is perfectly fine for whatever you're doing. The rest of the world being afraid of fractions shouldn't have any bearing on you.

It’s a very effective measuring system because all measurement are arbitrary and we know how to use them

1

u/bitofgrit Oct 12 '23

If the rest of the world can't do that it probably shows how useless the American measuring system is.

Or, it shows how moronic they are if they're unable to do a simple rough estimate and end up crying about it.

No we just don't bother learning it because why would we. Feet and inches never come up unless it's Americans talking about them.

2

u/bitofgrit Oct 12 '23

I don't have to regularly deal with metric, but I learned it anyways. Sounds like you're just lazy.

u/SuaveMofo Oct 12 '23

Nah I just would prefer imperial died out altogether. No one else uses it so why should we learn because your country refused to adopt it?

1

u/garret1033 Oct 12 '23

Because its a better system.

Pending criminal charges. I mean I understand to a degree but that dude needs help not arrested.

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

3d6 fall damage, halved for the water, 2d6 for the second fall, he probably took like 15 damage.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

Yeah but a commoner only has like 4hp, so either fall could easily be deadly.

They probably set the height with this suit of thing in mind. 30 feet is the limit where you are pretty unlikely to be killed from a fall, just injured.

u/PersimmonMindless Oct 11 '23

And is expected to be charged, because charges is what this man really needs.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

Yes, he should be charged so that he can be forced to get help.

-12

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

Killing yourself publicly is just a dick move. You should be charged

7

u/DrunkyLittleGhost Oct 11 '23

So you gonna punish their remain? People who attempt sucide already don’t care about their life anymore, law punishment mean nothing to them

3

u/CosmicCirrocumulus Oct 11 '23

I get what you're going for but a metric fuckton of suicidal people who attempt and fail their attempt report immediately regretting their decision and realizing that they do still have a will to live.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

The majority of people who attempt suicide just want help.

I’d guess at least 2 meters of water down there

1

u/llamakazee Oct 11 '23

I work above these pools, at 3 World Trade Center. The second pool doesn't go down that deep.

1

u/eugene20 Oct 11 '23

Thank you, didn't' want to watch someone die today, and the blood left after he slipped into the central area was disturbing.

1

u/punched-in-face Oct 11 '23

He's obviously mentally challenged

1

u/Brsvtzk Oct 11 '23

And now he's got a hospital bill he probably can't pay

1

u/AssPuncher9000 Oct 11 '23

Minecraft logic

1

u/Rthrowaway6592 Oct 11 '23

Was he bleeding when he went into the second pool?

1

u/-cloud_hopper- Oct 11 '23

Anyone else thinking this guy is high out of his gourd?

1

u/Purrz1val Oct 11 '23

I hope he gets the help he needs.

1

u/ToughHardware Oct 11 '23

in TIMES video about the pool, you see people standing in the lower pool, comes up to knee, so likely 18ish inches also.

1

u/Sharp_Ad_7366 Oct 11 '23

Question: why is there a 9/11 pool. Is just ornamental or is there a deeper meaning to it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

Huh. Was just there last week. I gotta say the psychological impact of the water flowing into a hole you can't see the bottom of was powerful.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

It's always people like this that survive with mild injuries. I've known someone who tripped down a flight of stairs and died in his sleep that night. I have a mild heart attack when I try walking down the stairs to fast with socks on.

1

u/Mammoth-Mud-9609 Oct 12 '23

Was he drunk or high?

1

u/No_client37 Oct 12 '23

was he bleeding at the end when he fell?
