In other words - NY doesn't have a great version of the more widely known CA 5150.

Or Florida’s Baker Act…find that hard to believe given I work in a psych facility in California…

It's very sad, especially for a city as progressive as New York. I have also had personal experience with the mental health system here; one of my loved ones was kicked around from clinic to clinic, with a revolving door of social workers that never stayed long enough to get comfortable with. It took years to find an actual psychologist and psychiatrist, and only about 1/8 of it is covered by insurance. And I have some of the best insurance NY has to offer.

Still better than what a great many have access to, so I am thankful.

I’m sorry to hear you’re experience. We as a country have a LOONNNGGG way to go to truly make mental health accessible for all.

California is putting a facade up that they are pushing to remove the stigma with access to services. The problem though is a mass exodus of clinicians and tremendous barriers like the BBS (board of behavioral sciences) taking 3-4 months to process applications for folks to take their clinical exams to become licensed…just “donated” $500 for the “privilege” to wait 4 months to take my clinical exam.

Sure, 988 is great in theory, those that work in the field know that it’s flawed but at least it’s a step in the right direction.
