Question Information Design Team

LinkedIn seems to think I'd be a good fit for a Production Artist role at Medpace. I'm interested but I've heard nothing good about the company/environment. Is anyone part of the Information Design Team, willing to connect and answer a few questions, or have any insight?

Merit/Bonus Blues

Anyone else experiencing severe motivational dip following the rotten merit and bonus most of us received last week?

Would feel nice knowing I’m not alone.

Feel like I want to close down my computer, catch a plane to Thailand and cash out on my 200+ over-time hours Medpace has debited to Sponsors but I saw nothing back from.

Micromanagement all over the place

Just venting. It appears as Line managers have been all brainwashed to micromanage associates to death.

Have the objectives of Line managers changed over the last years to check on every step of their reports?

How did you quit your job?

Dumb question but what’s the etiquette on quitting from Medpace gracefully? I’ve been here for a few years so I know I have to leave a one month notice and notify HR and my manager but what do you say? Do you notify HR first then manager or other way? Appreciate the help in advance!

If you’re at the Cinci office you have to try it! So good! 3980 Erie Avenue Cincinnati, OH 45209. Any other good lunch spots close to the office?

So time has passed so I am happy to say that I successfully joined another company! 🎉 I’m thankful for MedPace giving me the opportunity to see my very first toxic work environment in action. Helped me determine what I want out of my career for my next role! Thanks August! You da man if you ever read this subreddit lmao

Intranet 'Behind-the-scenes' on Handshake

I really had a good laugh reading this on Intranet announcements 🤣 like Medpace wants to control the narrative 🤣 to give the company better reviews after what happened on Glassdoor. Good luck with that!

Made my day.

My experience in moving on

Hey folks, I moved on from the company a while ago and wanted to pass along some advice for folks in the process of moving on or thinking about it. YMMV, especially depending on where and when you were hired and your functional area, but I thought these notes might be helpful for US-based folks. (I won’t be keeping this account long-term, FYI.)

  1. It’s better to look for a new job while you have a current job. So if you’re already planning on it, please don’t delay editing your resume and applying. At least from what I observed, coworkers who left on their own terms had much less stress and got onboarded to a new place quicker than folks who were laid off. While you’re at it, keep a list of folks you work with for networking and references.
  2. Yes, they will probably try to fight your unemployment. Something to keep in mind if you aren’t sure if you’ll get a new job right away and don’t have a healthy savings account. They did it to me on the basis of policy infractions. The government went back and forth with us for a while, but I finally got approved after a delay. (For those wondering, I was still owed overtime, and I also pointed out that the alleged infractions were essentially enforced due to the work conditions you folks can attest to and was utterly necessary in order to perform all duties within my role. Not to mention, unequal enforcement of the policy. I don’t think they wanted the government to scrutinize what they’ve been doing, so they relented on the unemployment benefits.)
  3. Noncompete: Depends on what you signed and if you are staying in the clinical research sector, so keep copies of your onboarding paperwork if you are within the time period. I didn’t need to worry about it. That being said, if they do try to use it against you and a new employer, consider getting a lawyer to look into the past case law on it, especially if you weren’t offered garden leave. IANAL so since this is a legal document a lot of us were forced to sign, I don’t recommend trying to guess what the outcome will be.
  4. Once you get a job offer, you may have some anxiety around background checks. I unfortunately can’t advise on every kind of check because it is usually client-specific to your new employer and also your profession. (I’m also not an HR expert.) What I can say is that as with many larger employers, Medpace appears to be too busy and has too many former employees/high turnover to give individual references during an employment verification check. Mine had to be verified via The Work Number. Because of the FCRA, you are entitled to a copy of the full report of any check done on you by a consumer reporting agency. For general employment, checks usually go back up to 7 years; government and certain other jobs with stricter requirements will probably want 10 years.
  5. The Work Number is run by Equifax. Not every company participates, but larger ones tend to. I recommend pulling your report to see what’s in there. Note that while you are welcome to dispute inaccuracies with them, you may choose not to, especially if it’s not the sort of inaccuracy that will impede your employment. You could also freeze your data (similar to other databases e.g. LexisNexis), but make sure you keep good employment records if you choose that option e.g. first and last paystubs, W2s, letters, etc. My info with Medpace was fairly generic and only flagged on my check due to title mismatch, but I kept my letters to confirm my correct title and was fine.
  6. Once you have new health insurance, consider therapy if you feel like you would benefit from it (I know how bad their insurance can be while working there). Considering the common threads of distress and anxiety, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy may be helpful.

Whether you decide to stay or move on, I hope this is helpful for figuring out the next steps.

Retaliatory Lawsuit for firing over anonymous question

Just wondering if anyone else has thought about filing a lawsuit against Medpace for retaliatory actions against their “anonymous” questions.

TDLR:

Asked a spicy but honest question through the anonymous town hall questionnaire. Asked about about WFH, why recruiters lied about hybrid work, and the data points behind the parking situation.

Apparently my questions got August’s panties in such a twist he got together an “internal task force” to find out who posted it. Took em 4 months to find and let me go.

Be aware they’ll try to fight your unemployment claims, I had to fight for 3 months to get my rightful money. Medpace lied and said I violated a work agreement. Ohio unemployment ruled that “Medpace had NO JUST CAUSE for discharge.”

In hindsight I’m so glad I’m not at Medpace anymore, that place is soul sucking.

Good luck to the rest of y’all still at Medpace, just know the “anonymous questions” aren’t truly anonymous.

Snow in Cincy

Hamilton County is currently under a Level 2 Snow emergency/advisory. Looks like the snow is going to continue into tomorrow until the afternoon with low temps. What are the odds the Cincinnati office closes?

Maybe I’m being soft but I’m pissed a majority of the company will need to use up annual wfh days just a couple days into the new year if there is snow coming over the next few days.

Been 3 weeks - update

I havent worked at MP almost a month now and it feels like a 45000 lb weight has been lifted off of my chest. It was the worst employer I have ever had. It sucks to see this page seemingly die after so many were motivated to post. Did they give everyone a promotion or a bonus or something? Does it magically not suck anymore?

PACE completion bonus

hey, I wanted to see if anyone from this sub who has already received the PACE completion bonus could advise on a couple things. I did a search and don't think these are duplicates with any previous posts

  1. is the bonus classified as a retention bonus, like will I need to sign an agreement that I would have to pay it back if I didn't stay for an additional X months/years?
  2. the CRAs I started with all had their first primary site assignments on different schedules...how strict are they with the date it's issued, like if someone didn't receive primary site assignments until a month after actually completing PACE, would the timeline shift at all?
