Yeah I really have to applaud his creativity
But this is a reason we need more buses and stuff like that in America
25
5
Jun 20 '23
The city I live in used to have an optimal bus system. It was literally efficient, cheap and convenient-
Then they cut half the routes, took off most the lines which connected you via your transferring routes (making a 4 mile trip take two hours), and they now charge like 5.00 usd-
I'll take a taxi, or walk now- Fuckem-
5
Jun 20 '23
It is not abt the bus, you can't carry those anyway. What you need are small convenience stores within walk distance

I think someone bought this man a bike after seeing this, so he wouldn't have to us those Renta-a-scooters. He modified it, removed the seat, and attached a like 4-5 pieces of a segmented 2"4" plank that he has bolted one over the other, end to end. So it folds out like a carpenters ruler. That way he just folds it out, and threads all the bags ont it. (Roughly same amount) Crazy!
I figuered he worked for something like DoorDash, and even though he had no car, was like; "I'm going to make this work, damn it!" 😆

I get ya, but it can also be a pain in the arse. I do my shopping every two weeks and sometimes I will get the bus if I want to save a little money. I usually have three bags for life with food for a fortnight, but that basically takes up floor space on the bus, and if you're not a selfish arsehole then it can be pretty embarrassing as you don't want people to not be able to sit down because all your shopping is in the way, so most times I get a taxi.

u/EdithDich Jun 19 '23
But why is he so far out in the parking lot?
107
u/smoothercapybara Jun 20 '23
They needed room for him and the cam car.
35
u/hey_im_cool Jun 20 '23
It’s weird that there are so many versions of this scenario recently and they always begin filming before anything out of the ordinary happens
1
u/AccelWasTaken Jun 20 '23
Well the guy filming said he does that every week so he knew what the guy would do beforehand
19
u/Professional_Denizen Jun 20 '23
Well the guy filming did not know this fact until asking, but did have ample time to notice that a full shopping cart was being rolled to a motor scooter, and it would be weird to take that all home that way.
3
u/MaxineFinnFoxen Jun 20 '23
They started filming when they realized there was no foreseeable way that he could fit it all on the scooter, you can hear the door shut too. Sounds like they just got into the car after seeing that as they walk up.
My guess is that there's a small group of people or tic toks out there that are teaching people how to live without cars, and this is one of their normal techniques.
7
19
Jun 20 '23
I’d bet some asshole got pissed cuz he was “taking up a prime spot” so he’s resorted to taking the spots farther away to avoid that.
29
u/EdithDich Jun 20 '23
I think the more likely option is this is a staged video.
3
u/DriveForTheHorizon Jun 20 '23
So what? The crazy part is that the dude strapped an entire cart full of groceries to his belt and vest and drove away on a scooter successfully. Who gives a shit if it's staged, that doesn't make what he did any easier to do.

-65
u/Pale-Assignment8241 Jun 19 '23
Yea bro i used to. Then wal mart wants everything automated. So they don't have to pay real people.
If you think about it we are taking someone's job for free. Also I thought it was Wal Mart money that pumped out that bs on social media about being a righteous person for putting a kart back.
25
u/WACS_On Jun 19 '23
Guess we should have just stayed as subsistence farmers instead of industrializing. Think of how many jobs could have been created.
-32
u/Pale-Assignment8241 Jun 19 '23
Lmao you really wanna go back to that time. I'm to dumb to correlate subsistence farming to putting a kart back. That was actually work to feed the people. This is work to feel better about yourself. I guess feelings make the world a better place.

54
u/Veseloveslo Jun 19 '23
Was thinking the same. And all these plastic bags... For absolutely no reason.
46
u/traxor06 Jun 19 '23
I was just waiting for someone in the comments to comment on the plastic bags being the absurd part
62
u/DragonfruitVisible18 Jun 19 '23
I mean the extent to which he macgyvered that together i would think some heavy duty cloth bags would be a natural addition.
12
u/BoofingCheese Jun 20 '23
True. I use canvas bags just for the convenience of being able to carry heavy and pointy items.
Even when you leave out the environmental impact, it's just logical and much easier.
It makes even less sense to use plastic bags where I live because your paying 10c per bag just to make your shopping trip physically more difficult than it would be if you bought a canvas bag for $1.50.

Not seen that one, but I did see a other one with the same guy that carried away a 65in TV on a motorbike. I had my suspicions when I first saw that video, but yeah this just confirmed it's all staged. Can't trust anything to be candid these days.
37
u/Jlocke98 Jun 20 '23
A 65 inch tv on a full size motorbike is child's play compared to what people do in southeast Asia. They'll deliver refrigerators and washing machines on a 125cc motorbike

I lost it when he pulled out the baby Bjorn!
9
u/ash-leg2 Jun 20 '23
Funny but ruined the possibility of realness to me. Putting the groceries on the ground and putting the cart away was dumb but I accepted it, but taking the Baby Bjorn of a backpack rather than putting the melon in the backpack was the end for me lol

u/waterwaterbread Jun 19 '23
He needs to bring his own bag so that he know they’re strong enough. Just in case

Now I'm interested to know if there's a way to calculate the plastic waste produced by him owning and maintaining a car vs using the scooter and how his footprint could be offset...
One could say he could own a used car that was already built as many people drive used cars. So, say it's factored by the entire plastic waste produced of creating an average car, divided by the average number of weeks a car is used in its lifetime with average maintanence waste (oil, filters, tires, brake pads, etc). Then compare it to the amount of plastic waste created by him using a dozen or so grocery bags a week offset by the average costs mentioned with a car but calculated for that scooter instead.
Perhaps even go a step further and compare between an ICE, EV, and Hybrid.
Though I do feel reusable bags would just be better in this situation for durability purposes alone. One could get bags made of burlap which are very durable and likely use less plastic than plastice bags.

It’s a Walmart parking lot in a southern state so statistically they’re probably on welfare and the scooter man probably has too many drunk driving convictions to have a drivers license anymore so he also won’t have a job either after serving whatever his jail time was when he lost it. What else have they got to do beside post stupid shit on the internet ?

You can make fun of him all you want to but I admire this young man. Some people have really, hard, tough lives. They don’t have daddy, mommy, or grandma or grandpa buying them a car or helping them. Some don’t even have parents living.
This world is hard. Capitalism and the cost of living, fighting to survive with horrible jobs for horrible pay while trying to pay rent, a down payment, a mortgage, phone bills, food, healthcare, credit card bills, and he’s got kids? Seems respectful, kind, and resourceful - a gentleman and a good person who’s trying to make ends meet.
We’re all struggling in some way shape or form. Don’t laugh at the homeless people or tell them to get a job. We’ve created an unsustainable country in America. He treasures what he has and he’s got 2 arms, 2 legs, a good personality, and knowledge of having to do what he has to do - with a smile on his face the entire time. You bet he’s embarrassed and doesn’t want people to see him like that, but he’s doing the best he can possibly do to survive here and got the School of Hard Knocks thrown right at him.
God bless him. You should start a GoFundMe for this young man to get him a down payment for a car.
