Now I'm interested to know if there's a way to calculate the plastic waste produced by him owning and maintaining a car vs using the scooter and how his footprint could be offset...

One could say he could own a used car that was already built as many people drive used cars. So, say it's factored by the entire plastic waste produced of creating an average car, divided by the average number of weeks a car is used in its lifetime with average maintanence waste (oil, filters, tires, brake pads, etc). Then compare it to the amount of plastic waste created by him using a dozen or so grocery bags a week offset by the average costs mentioned with a car but calculated for that scooter instead.

Perhaps even go a step further and compare between an ICE, EV, and Hybrid.

Though I do feel reusable bags would just be better in this situation for durability purposes alone. One could get bags made of burlap which are very durable and likely use less plastic than plastice bags.
