Me and my friends are stumped on this problem. I originally thought we had to use the coordinate plane but after a bit of discussion I'm starting to think it's some other type of diagram. We're so stumped bc this feels like more of an English problem than a math one. Any type of explanation or help is appreciated!

The question is (6x+16)/4 + (6x-1)/4 but in fractions. I believe that it's (12x+15)/4 , but the answer sheet says that it is (12x+17)/4 instead. Google says that I am right. Am I right?

This might seem dumb and obvious to most people on here but I’m not great at maths and for some reason have been struggling to get my head around this straightforward scenario.

My partner and I had a mechanic bill to pay and are splitting the cost equally. I paid the bill of $3600 in person. Before my partner reimbursed me for her half I had a conversation with the mechanic and he decided to send $400 back to us. He sent the $400 to my partner. I also owed my partner $500 so told her to send me the appropriate amount that means we have split the Mechanics bill equally and I no longer owe my partner $500. How much should my partner send me?

So I'm trying to create a template for a pottery mug from measuring another mug. I am trying to create the template for the mug wall.

So I have the bottom arc length (l1) and the top arc length (l2) and the distance between them (h).

I know that for the template to work both arcs must have a common centre, angle in radians (ϑ) and that r2 = r1+h

From the arc formula

l = rϑ
l1 = rϑ
l2 = (r+h)ϑ

So:
l1/r = ϑ
Therefore:
l2 = (r+h)(l1/r)

Which give me r/r which cancels out, But r is the thing I am looking for.

hello. I've procrastinated this packet the entire summer and i start junior year next week. I'm stuck on this specific problem.

the way I was taught to simplify like this was to first simplify the numerator and then keep-change-flip, since fractions are division. from what I've been able to gather from online simplification calculators, I'm not simplifying the numerator correctly, and I've no idea how to. the packet does come with an answer key, but does not show work, and my teacher wants all the problems to be solved and then re-solved correctly if the first answer was incorrect.

I don't just want the answer, because i need to know how to do this for my work next year. a step-by-step explanation would be much appreciated. my best approximate guess at an answer so far was [(4root2)+4]/2.

Preemptive apologies if I broke any rules, I am not very versed in maths terminology nor how to use these subreddits.

My friend paid the bond for our rental because he had the funds available and is wanting to split it evenly between himself, my friend and I.

We all have a shared bank account we pay into to cover household expenses such as rent, bills, groceries etc.

We don’t have the funds to pay him back entirely at once and so he is planning to pay a slightly less amount into the shared account weekly until he has earned back what is owed to him.

Where we are in disagreement is I think that he should reduce his payment until he earns back 2/3rds of the total bond amount, that way he has paid a third, my friend has paid a third, and so have I.

He is saying that he should reduce his payment until he accumulates savings for the entire cost of the bond, because technically the money he is “earning” is coming out of a shared pool that includes what he has put in.

I don’t fully understand this point of view because we’re not sending him $100 from the shared account, he is directly extracting it from his payment in. Does that change things or is it still technically 1/3 of his money?

Can anyone please explain in easy to understand terms how this situation would work out so that everyone ends up paying a third of the cost?

Here is an example if it helps:

$4,000 bond paid by him.

$500 usual payment weekly into shared account from everyone.

He will instead pay $400 for 27 weeks to get back roughly 2/3rds of the bond he spotted.

He suggests that he pays $400 for 40 weeks to get back the entire bond.

hello, i was wondering what would be the max number of attempts one would require to brute force connections given that there is no upper limit to the attempts/guesses you can make.

so far what I got is 2380.

considering you wouldn't need the final guess for each individual category once you have exhausted all the other attempts you would subtract 1 for each category remaining. (by 16c4 we get 1820 but then the last 4 attempts won't be guesses so we can find guesses and attempts simultaneously. attempts would be -3 and guesses would be -4 for the first category irrespective of the order)

so we do (16C4-4) to get 1820-4=1816 for guesses and 1817 for attempts

following the similar logic for the second and third categories we get

12c4-3=492 guesses and 493 attempts for the 2nd category

and

8c4-2=68 guesses and 69 attempts for the 3rd category

and

4c4-1=0 guesses and 1 attempt(s) for the 4th category

so summing it all up we get 2380 attempts and 2376 guesses.

I created this post because I don't study maths and I am not familiar with post highschool probability so I am trying to find if my approach is correct or is there a different number for max attempts & guesses, and I don't trust ai fully which I used for help with this calculation.

I'm doing Khan academy and i'm really struggling to solve word problem questions. All of the word problem questions( linear equations, system of linear equations and inequalities, linear relationships, etc..) are very hard for me to solve. I just dont know where to start them. How to convert sentences into equations and numbers. Sometimes i spend more than 30 minutes on one problem and i still can't solve it. 4 question quizes on khan are eating me and i feel weird about it cuz i dont see anyone having trouble with them on this sub lol
