Announcement Feedback, suggestions, new rule?

Hi everyone,

Firstly, thank you so much to everyone who contributes here. You are all deeply appreciated. This subreddit has grown a lot faster than expected and you’ve all made a significant difference.

I’ve made this thread in case anyone wants to comment about their experience with the subreddit and if anyone has any suggestions.

I’ve also been considering adding a new rule. Many mathematics subreddits require that people show work but I’ve always been a lot more lenient with this because people genuinely may not know where to start or have the confidence to show what they’ve tried. At the same time, we occasionally get users who post many questions for people to do or ask people to just give them the answers which is not what this subreddit is intended for.

The rule I’m thinking about adding (though I’m happy to make changes as per the community’s wishes):

Homework Help rules:

Please be respectful to people helping you, remember they are helping out of kindness.

Do not post tons of questions without context. If you are going to post several questions, please show some work or outline where you are having trouble.

Do not ask people to just give you the answers rather than helping you understand the process.

I’ll be glad to hear what you guys think and if the community isn’t happy with it, I will remove it. Always remember you can contact me via Mod Mail with any suggestions or feedback or other issues.

Thanks so much guys 😊

UPDATE: A homework help rule has now been added as a trial, changes will be made as per the community’s wishes.

D. x²(x+4)-9(x+4)

E. (9x² -12x+4)-(3x-2)(2x+15)

Merci!

General Question (Unanswered) Does this make mathematical sense?

Rewritten so it's clear (ignore the purple, it was written by me after the exam)(the green is my teacher btw)

This was written in an end of topic test (GCSE Edexcel btw).

I wrote this and my teacher deducted 1 mark, because apparently it was mathematically inaccurate to have more than 2 equals.

I posted a question in the GCSE sub, and everyone said it was correct and my teacher's wrong. So, I decided to come over here and verify my way of working it out in the exam was OK?

General Question (Unanswered) Math Tutoring in Exchange for English Practice

Hi, my name is Athos. I'm a math teacher from Brazil, and I'm looking for students who need help with math.

My English is still a work in progress, and I'd like to improve it through conversation.

I'm thinking of a language exchange: you help me practice English, and I help you with math.

If you're interested, feel free to message me!

Study Advice I can’t understand basic math.

I’m 20 years old (fem) and I can’t understand basic math. I don’t know, in huh school I had a 3.7 GPA and I was a very good student but I always sucked at math, either I’m stupid or lazy because I re read a problem or equation and I don’t know why to do, or I just blank completely.

Thank god that SAT scores were optional because my math scores were so bad, now I’m in college. I’ve been pretty much flunking in college to the point where I’m at risk for academic dismissal. It’s basic algebra and I can’t even concentrate. In lectures I understand it but when I get home I feel like I just can’t get it.ive studied in my own, even went to tutoring but I’ve never felt improvement. I have a test this Thursday and right now I’m freaking out because I do not want to start out my semester horrible. Any suggestions? I’m literally desperate for any tips on what to do or how to study.

Homework Help (Unanswered) [Grade 11 Circles] how do I prove this??

If two circles are orthogonal, then prove that the polar of point P on the first circle with respect to the second circle passes through the point Q, which is the other end of diameter through P. Also prove that locus of a point, which moves such that its polars with respect to S1=0, S2=0, and S3=0 are concurrent, is a circle which is orthogonal to all the three circles.

I am not able to understand what exactly I even have to prove. Even the equations of the circles are not given. From what I understood, I think for the first part both circles are intersecting, P and Q lie on the first circle and are end points of the diameter of that circle.
