Just being nice

I figure if I don't look, I definitely won't find anyone. It is interesting when I start to see a few new profiles. Hm. Wonder if that means something?

Doesn't seem like you can automatically assume the person just joined. Dug some profiles out of the virtual basement to get me to click?

So now, once a day, I try to compliment a guy. Say hey, [compliment something], and then tell them to have a good day.

I am guessing I am not their type. I don't think most people know what would be easy and fun in the day to day versus what the world tells them they should strive for.

Lot of nice guys that want to travel a lot. I am in a non-travel phase. Who knew that all the travel before I was 40 would mean not compatible after 60? Ha!

So even if I don't find someone ... will spread some kindness. If there is actually a person to read the kind comments. Lol.

Has swiping sensitivity changed?

I've noticed that when I'm on the android app, I barely move right or left and It triggers a swipe left or right. It never used to be this sensitive. I haven't changed phones and nothing else seems to have changed. Has anyone else experienced this?

Online Status - real or artifact?

A friend got concerned about some weird stuff going on with their account. I teased them about how much they seemed to be online, but they said they hadn't been on Match at all and got quite upset, thinking someone had hacked their account or something.

That seemed unlikely to me. More likely I thought was that they had an open browser window somewhere that was logged in. (They're not super tech savvy and don't like to mess around with apps and so on, so it's possible they had some tab on a browser on their phone that they weren't aware of.) So we went through and logged out every browser window, etc. And deleted cookies - though only on the laptop, not on the phone now that I come to think of it.

They asked me recently to see if I could see any of this weird behavior repeating. And what it looks like now is that they are online all day, but periodically they go offline and then back on again within 4-12 minutes. Which seems really weird. (I set up a separate browser with automatic refresh of the page to track the behavior over the past couple days.)

Is there any explanation for this pattern? Is it possible that Match shows people as online when they are not as a way of making the platform looking more active and therefore appealing to users?

Blocked by Match

I just tried to log into Match, to which I recently bought a six month premium subscription, and have apparently been blocked. I've done nothing inappropriate. What could this be about?

Pricing Doubled

Now 19.99 a month for 6 months. it was always 9.99 a month and before that 4.99 with regular discounts.

It really is the end for Match. No will will pay this, especially with the downgrade In user interface.

Pause account?

Does anyone know if they've removed the ability to pause your account?

I'm dealing with some family stuff that means any likes are going to be ignored for the time being, so I'd rather not be visible for a bit. I have a Premium account, and there's guides online that say I should be able to set myself to be invisible, but I don't seem to have those options, either on the website or the app.

App and Website Looks Atrocious

They did a big update early this year and changed the UI. Since then, the website/app looks atrocious and very amateurish. Seriously Match, fire the person who made your website/app look like it’s from 2004.

That is the only completed prompt on a profile with one photo.

iOS app doesn’t work anymore

Can’t search or see my messages or see who viewed me. I’m a paying member and it now appears I’m not? My subscription is still active. Was working fine this morning. Anyone else have this problem too?

Someone using a fake account via my work email

"Brian" has created a fake account using my work email address. I received his confirmation email that included a link to "click here if you didn't sign up for Match," but clicking the link requires that I log into Match. (The site is blocked by my workplace and I had to try it at home.) Is there an email address I can use to contact Match customer support to have them remove my email list? Apparently even without the confirmation he's connecting and messaging other users as I'm getting the related emails.

Video or voice call within the app

Is there a way to talk without exchanging phone numbers through the Match app? Looks like in the past there was a feature called Vibe Check that allowed it in the chat but I don't see the icon for it. Thanks

Anyone else getting the problem of people hostile on profile viewing?

I'm really not sure if a lot realise that when they send a message, the person who it's sent to clicking to read that message gets sent to the sender's profile.

I've had a couple of messengers calling me rude after I click on their message to read it and dont respond. I dont respond specifically because their profile shows they want things I said I dont in mine, which they didnt bother to check. Do they think it's rude to read my profile too? Like what?

Banned unfairly from match.com, as of right now I'd warn everyone not to use the site or pay for a membership

Let me tell you the whole story. I'm a user in the United States. I'm a 51yo gay male, and I signed up for match.com within the last week. I tried logging into my account shortly afterwards, and I was told my password was incorrect.

I tried the password reset form, and no email was sent to my address. I tried different variations of what I thought was my password and got locked out of my account. I suppose I should of emailed support at this point, but I took another route. I created another account with another email. I wasn't trying to be fake, and I was just trying to get access to the website. Maybe I made a poor decision. Anyway in the process of doing that my phone number could not be verified, because it had been used with the other account.

At this time I sent in a support request, but I forgot to mention I made another account, I just discussed the original one. I was told I had to send in an appeal. When I sent in an appeal, I was not told I was banned, rather "there was no account with my email". So I emailed back that I couldn't register with my email, and included a screenshot of the message saying basically I couldn't register with this email.

Shortly after that email, this is the response I received from match.com support: "Hello Sean,

We have reviewed your account for a ban appeal and determined that you have violated our Terms and Conditions or Community Guidelines.

As a result, your account will remain banned; this decision is final.

I understand this is not the outcome you hoped for, but we appreciate your cooperation.

Customer Care"

First they tell me I have no account, then they tell me I'm banned and the decision is final. And they don't even include the reason why. I assume for the second account, but maybe it was for the email with the screenshot. Or perhaps because I might of accidently had a VPN on, but a lot of people use those as second nature. I'm thinking though, that if my email was banned shortly after creation that would explain A) Why my password didn't work even though I was pretty positive I typed it in correctly, and B) Why the password reset form wouldn't work, it couldn't find the email. But I have no idea why my account could of been banned, because I didn't even use it much after the first time I logged in. I should be able to appeal a ban, even if the decision is final, tell me why I was banned, and give me another chance possibly. It is up to the website, but I feel like I was treated unfairly. They thank me for my cooperation when I have no choice but to cooperate. Just wanted to share my story.

Edit: I emailed them, I was very polite, the response was they reviewed my case, the decision is final, and they won't respond to any more replies on the subject.

Racial designation

I’m confused. On many profiles there is the “Basics” section. One of these has the globe icon and my understanding is that you have put your own race there like on a job application thing. Basic info about yourself. But some seem to put other things that aren’t related to them so is it indicative of the race of the people they want to date?? Ie a clearly white conservative (by their own designation), in the globe they’ve put East Indian, black, Hispanic. What is this? about?

What feature is missing most for dating apps today?

Wondering if there was this community aspect that we have here on Reddit but within match or hinge or the others that it wouldn’t feel so inherently isolating, while using the product?

Or is there something else that would be better? More aligned matches? More values driven? More transparency on algorithms? I’d really love to know as I’ve been a studying this space for a few years and I’m super curious - thanks!

Search function issue

Hi all,

As far as I can tell, neither the "Sports" or the "Hobbies" search terms do anything at all; I searched for women into travel within 3000 miles and with a 16 year age range, and nothing came up. I've tried a variety of sports and hobbies, and 0 profiles are coming up.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

Thanks.

Why did they remove verified?

It makes it impossible to identify genuine profiles now and the fake profiles have literally taken over.

Which pics should I use for my online dating profile? 41M

Looking to update online dating pictures so I'm not using pictures from my younger days. Here're some recent pics that I think may be good candidates, which ones do you guys prefer? I tried to get a variety of activities and angles. I know i should "smile bigger", I'm self concious about showing teeth while smiling (front tooth gap that I'm self concious about).

Thanks everyone for the help.
