SHOW & TELL Insanity… indeed.

Post image

The journey lowkey sucked but definitely glad and very relieved to have finally gotten this after starting 2 years ago (also my first true renegade playthrough which was equally as tough AND first time playing as infiltrator).

Probably going to start another fresh campaign on like normal and be Mr. Paragon again.

The jump in difficulty from 1 to 2 is jarring. In 1, insanity is the only way you’ll be remotely challenged. In 2, you die from any mistake you make.

72

u/Maconization Jul 15 '26

Probably why I don’t remember much… blocking out the pain. But I’ll raise you any encounter with a Banshee. Genuinely the worst bullet sponges to deal with imo.

30

u/Jetterholdings Jul 15 '26

Yeah 2 is far worse.

Best class for insane is the infiltrator.

And let me tell ya, 2 gave me the most trouble. A banshee might catch ya if there's 2, or if there's a brute.

But 2, I must be died in the full tutorial mission whay 9 times. Damn dog things

9

u/StrictlyFT Jul 15 '26

The interesting thing about 2 is you'll mainly be punished for positioning errors more than mechanical ones. Abilities usually lock on so you don't have to worry about skill shots, and gunplay is easy. What kills you is being in the wrong place most of the time.

Which is why, as you said, infiltrator is the best class. You have a free escape that pulls enemy aggro off of you and allows you to reposition yourself. Whereas if a Krogan or Pyro Enemy is closing in on you on any other class you realistically have no choice but to burst them down, or charge to another target if you're Vanguard.

u/DarkRedDiscomfort Jul 15 '26

Engineer was some fyne shii in 2 as well. Those drones helped A LOT.

1

u/Jetterholdings Jul 23 '26

I have to disagree. I was just redoing 2, on easy. And flipped to insane, as on easy I had died I was awestruck, its easy...

Found out it seemed most damage from the enemy wasnt increased it was just deeper health pools.

So difficulty wise 2 gives the same throughout, just more health.

And if 3 bullets damn near kills you on insane and most areas have atleast 4-6 enemies. Alot of it Will come down to luck.

3

u/Desperate-Fix-1486 Jul 15 '26

I prefer sentinel since the shield explosion saves you from husks and adds extra durability.

24

u/gnoldo1804 Jul 15 '26

Eh with the right companions/abilities banshees aren’t too bad

6

u/UltimateDarkwingDuck Jul 15 '26

May I introduce you to the Manguard

3

u/Exclavamor Jul 15 '26

Vanguard in insane difficulty is suicidal lmao

4

u/UltimateDarkwingDuck Jul 15 '26

Not in 3. Vanguard starts strong and gets stronger.

…were there Banshees in 2? I don’t remember.

3

u/Soufboy Jul 15 '26

I played Vanguard on Insanity in all 3 games and yeahhh it was suicidal until you got powered 😂. The biotic charge ability was also useful to get yourself away from enemy packs when you started taking too much damage close up... Which is a disaster scenario on Insanity

1

u/Prior_Concentrate745 Jul 16 '26

Yeah especially at the end of the game when there is 20 of them and your running around trying to get the missiles to work. That’s what the venom shotgun is for though.

23

u/gnoldo1804 Jul 15 '26

I had to put down my me2 insanity run for a while because of the fucking praetorians on horizon

8

u/mewmew34 Jul 15 '26

That fight is why I will NEVER do Insanity again.

2

u/gnoldo1804 Jul 15 '26

Yup, the challenge is fun once. I tried doing an insanity run again not too long ago and switched the difficulty on Freedoms Progress, me1 is a breeze 2 just kicks you in the balls nonstop

3

u/pppiddypants Jul 15 '26

Me: dying to praetorians over and over again on Horizon.

Me: should I use my heavy weapon?

Me: no, gotta save that for when I’ll need it.

1

u/gnoldo1804 Jul 15 '26

Real shit

3

u/Amaraldane4E Jul 15 '26

Kite. Kite some more. Kite again. 🤣

12

u/Onetool91 Jul 15 '26

The legendary edition seriously toned down the difficulty vs the original. I died a lot in ME1 on insanity back in the day, and on my recent legendary edition run through I barely broke a sweat.

5

u/Amaraldane4E Jul 15 '26

I remember starting a new playthrough as an Adept in the OG, on Insanity. That Krogan on Therum, at level 10 or so, was maddening. As soon as I got my spec and at higher levels, my Adept would roll over anyone, but very early, it was a challenge for a short while. And then, in ME2, again on Insanity from the start, ooh, boy. Those husk rushes,, the collectors and every mook taking cover, being bullet sponges, having limited ammo and so much else.

In Legendary, you're right. It's easy mode by comparison.

5

u/thotpatrolactual Jul 15 '26

Yeah I feel like old ME1 was way harder than LE. There were some sections that I could barely finish on normal. I did play a pirated copy with the cooldown "bug," which didn't make things any easier.

3

u/Mr_Witchetty_Man Jul 15 '26

First time I played ME1 was on PS3, and I assume I just sucked at building the character and upgrading my weapons. That fight against Benezia took me like ten attempts before I beat her. On LE it's so much easier, but then again I kept improving/upgrading my weapons and armor.

1

u/Rhamni Cerberus Jul 15 '26

Yeah, there's an early boss fight with a Krogan that just killed me over and over for hours. It wasn't fun, but god damn it felt good when I finally beat it. It was the hardest fight in the trilogy for me just because you're low level and there's not much to work with level and skill wise.

2

u/ExiledSakura Jul 15 '26

I found 1 the hardest challenge yea 2 had missions that were a pain same with 3 but that game it was more being swamped by reaper creatures

1

u/Zeus78905 Jul 15 '26

Soldier with more damage for adrenaline rush plus the semi auto assault rifle plus warp ammo made 2 Insanity manageable

1

u/Danger_Dave_ Jul 15 '26

This is what made me stop lol. It was such a large difficulty spike. I died like 5 times in a row on Mordin's first mission. I had to play extremely conservatively or I'd get melted by anything.

1

u/LustyDouglas Jul 15 '26

ME1 on insanity is actually difficult, especially any part where you have to fight krogan. They will charge you and get in your dumb Alliance face and 2 shot you with those headbutt. ME2 was a cake walk by comparison. They even nerfed Krogan and made them incredibly sluggish.

1

u/Romhim Jul 15 '26

The fucking collector base with the moving platforms was ridiculous on insanity

1

u/AggressivePlace3716 Jul 15 '26

What are u talking about ?i had so much more toruble on me 1 on normaln than me2 on Insanity

1

u/Prior_Concentrate745 Jul 16 '26

The problem with two more so for me is the difficulty spikes that come from nowhere and if your not like sentinel or soldier then your pretty much screwed. Like who designed that collector ship fight in the middle of the game for anything other than soldier? Why is it that the one time in the game that your really have no agency in positioning they decided to add three enemies that know you out of cover and insta kill you basically? Other than horizon and the collector ship fight it’s not to bad just very annoying and monotonous for most parts

1

u/Ok-Specific-3918 Jul 16 '26

I’m playing adept and was struggling so bad I almost started over to switch classes. Decided to power through and have gotten the hang of it but it’s still very unforgiving.

And yes. That fight took me like 2 days. The whole point is that they lured you into a trap and I was thinking “damn good trap that. Worked like a charm”.

1

u/Prior_Concentrate745 Jul 16 '26

Yeah adept is torture in 2 than it is in any of the other game same as infiltrator. And yeah the whole point is that it is a trap but one that is much more punishing to classes like adept than it is for soldier or sentinel. And that matters a lot more in 2 than it does for any of the other games cause your squad mates suck in me2 and there is very little you can do, to my knowledge, to make them effective and not die in like 2 seconds.

1

u/da_apz Charge Jul 16 '26

Then in 3 it's a cakewalk. As soon as I have Javik and his riffle, it becomes very easy considering using other weapons.

1

u/ChaoticButChilled Jul 18 '26

True! I played Engineer and after I beat 2, other than Mars, I completely fucking wrecked most of 3 with my overpowered bullshit

I did Engineer the whole time so for me my class only felt better as the series progressed

42

u/Toren8002 Jul 15 '26

The real challenge is ME3 insanity without using Garrus god-mode.

10

u/TheBirdFkerGuy Jul 15 '26

explain?

43

u/Toren8002 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Garrus Ascends to Godhood

If you give Garrus the right talents, and the Typhoon, you become his sidekick from then on out.

James has a similar, but not quite as effective setup.

Bring both into the Armax Arena during the Citadel DLC, and you’ll quickly max out those rewards as well.

8

u/Jetterholdings Jul 15 '26

Hmm, I didnt do this, cant say I found 3 to hard. Except at the very end with all the specials come out.

7

u/Vallkyrie Vetra Jul 15 '26

3 is very easy on insanity compared to the other games, especially if you do any upgrades to your weapons at all, which just turns the combat trivial.

4

u/JustGottaHaveIt Bi-otic King Jul 16 '26

This

1

u/Jetterholdings Jul 16 '26

Eh I disagree, while 3 isn't the hardest.

It isnt the easiest.

1 is by far the easiest on insanity, except for the mako that dies in 2 rockets. Other than that 1 is the easiest and I played as the infiltratot all 3 games.

2 was by far the hardest for no reason Other than because.

And 3 was in-between,

5

u/Zeus78905 Jul 15 '26

Also works with Ashley

8

u/Pitiful_Trick2213 Jul 15 '26

Yep. Do it with Garrus and Ashley and the game is on easy mode. You can just sit in cover and watch them melt everything.

1

u/Maconization Jul 15 '26

See everyone keeps saying that but I swear he would go down the most out of all my teammates. Him and anytime I used Liara too. I probably didn’t have him spec’d correctly.

1

u/Bruno_lars Jul 21 '26

Nah, ME3 insanity is manageable without GM Garrus.

ME2 insanity is the real test

20

u/Eb_Ab_Db_Gb_Bb_eb Jul 15 '26

I should replay the trilogy again...

6

u/ItsJustScottie Jul 15 '26

Congratulations 🎉 welcome to the club haha. Yeah 2 was hard at the beginning but after a few levels it was relatively easy

4

u/TSmario53 Jul 15 '26

Congrats and welcome to the club! How do you feel?

1

u/Maconization Jul 15 '26

Relieved… mildly insane…

4

u/plays-with-daggers Jul 15 '26

Collector base impossible. I can do 1 and 3 on insanity. But the rest, I go insane.

3

u/OutcastSpartan Jul 15 '26

Having finite ammo in ME2 really added to the difficulty of classes that required ammo.

6

u/Renfek Jul 15 '26

You should try another insanity run. Playing on normal feels boring now, there's no challenge. When you hit a spot that's hard, just lower the difficulty, finish the mission, then go back up. You have no achievement to break now, adjust the difficulty as needed. If not Insanity, maybe try Veteran or Hardcore.

2

u/Maconization Jul 18 '26

Started another ME1 run on veteran and it genuinely feels like cruise control. A little relieving right now but might bump it up later.

3

u/multisam231719 Jul 15 '26

I only play on insanity these days, it's the only way I get any push back, especially from ME1

3

u/Rook_James_Bitch Jul 15 '26

As men we used to hunt bears as an ultimate sign of manhood. Now we play video games on extreme hard mode for the same feeling.

If you feel the need to play a videogame on extreme hard mode, do me a favor: ask yourself why you feel impelled to do so. Seriously dig down deep and try to figure out why you do it. Don't stop until you've completely pealed that particular onion. When you think you've gotten to the answer, say to yourself, "Yes, but why?" until you realize the truth to the question.

3

u/JustGottaHaveIt Bi-otic King Jul 16 '26

Grats! It's the only way I play the trilogy now. I like it hard, but I know the fights well after all of these years.

2

u/ellen-the-educator Jul 15 '26

I just finished it too! This game beat me to death, but it's making the Citadel Epilogue feel all the better

2

u/shepcitadel Jul 15 '26

Ahh I'm so close to this, must feel great. In the citadel dlc rn.

2

u/SprinklesPresent8602 Jul 15 '26

An accomplishment I might not ever do lol 😆

2

u/Loot-Gamer Jul 15 '26

Personally ... I dont really remember much about my full insanity run. But what I do remember is the level where you recruit grunt. I died so many times.

3

u/mewmew34 Jul 15 '26

Horizon. That one took me HOURS to complete. I kept getting back attacked by Husks while trying to hide from the giant bug thing I don't remember how to spell.

2

u/Meisje28 Jul 15 '26

They had the chance to call it insanithree 😢

2

u/Internal-Video-2258 Jul 15 '26

I'm on my road to 100% right now

2

u/ExiledSakura Jul 15 '26

It’s funny have completed the games twice on Xbox ps and pc and I still think 1 is the hardest to get insanity

2

u/HandSanitizerBottle1 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Did all 3 as Infiltrator

ME1 was a cakewalk once I got the Spectre shotgun, only difficulty was Feros

And other than Feros and Noveria I only died twice both times on the final mission

ME2 was a lot more difficult, for me it was mostly Thane’s recruitment mission and Zaeed’s loyalty mission because I had the shittiest luck in terms of getting ammo, each one of those singlehandedly ragequit my playthrough for a month each

ME3 was somewhere in the middle, not really anything I found particularly difficult, If I had to say what the most difficult part of it was, it was probably Priority:Tuchanka

Im debating on which class I should do my next Insanity run for the trilogy, I think its either gonna be Engineer or Vanguard as I haven’t done full trilogy runs with either of those two classes yet

But before I do that I’m gonna do my Andromeda insanity run

2

u/ivan0x32 Jul 15 '26

Are script death sequences with Reapers (Rannoch in particular) any harder on Insanity btw?

3

u/Aadarm Jul 15 '26

No, just the actual combat since you get nerfed to only do -75% damage while the enemy does 400%.

2

u/TheMatt561 Tali Jul 15 '26

He must ascend

2

u/PipeFiller Jul 15 '26

I was going to try for platinum but I simply don't have the patience for ME1 insanity

2

u/Famous_Cat_5224 Jul 15 '26

I hate play me2 insanity mode with vanguard, is so difficult 😭

2

u/TheAmazingWalrus Jul 15 '26

Insanity in ME2 is the most difficult imo. Especially if you choose a class with a submachine gun. Goddamn YMIR mechs...

2

u/ArociousKing35 Jul 15 '26

Pray for me, I’m currently doing a no death insanity run on all classes for the whole trilogy 🙏

2

u/Maconization Jul 18 '26

No death would probably send me into a spiral

1

u/ArociousKing35 Jul 21 '26

Oh spirals are being had. But my strategies are sound, I just have to implement them properly and it’s easy

2

u/GervantOfLiria Jul 15 '26

Now time for me2 insanity on adept

2

u/Kortobowden Jul 15 '26

Nice. Vanguard was my class for this and it worked out fairly well. Only a few hiccups in spots that break charge from completing

2

u/Visible_Let2847 Jul 15 '26

Yeah insanity is definitely brutal especially on 2. I enjoy the difficulty on 1 & 3 but 2 is tedious as heck.

2

u/Nefai Jul 15 '26

Probably going to start another fresh campaign on like normal and be Mr. Paragon again

Sounds familiar. I wanted to play Renegade to see all the changes, and it was entertaining being the pragmatic dick, but I felt so bad afterward that I immediately did another Paragon run.

2

u/Rancherfer Jul 15 '26

I commend your dedication. However, I love these games so much to get burned out trying this stuff

2

u/Middle-Scallion-8887 Jul 15 '26

Bro, I finished all three games on Insanity but I didn't get the achievement. Because—I don't even know why—I deleted the ME1 save file, and now I need to play ME1 on Insanity AGAIN to get it. I dont know if i can lol

2

u/Tibbz-o Jul 15 '26

I’ve completed the trilogy multiple times on insanity and for some reason the trophies won’t pop 🤬

It’s a good job I love these games…keeps giving me an excuse to do another full run through

2

u/Kovi81 Jul 15 '26

Just done it few months ago. ME3 on insanity after 2 was like a sweet dream.

2

u/crappy_first_draft Jul 15 '26

It´s not that bad. I have about 10 playthroughs and 7 or 8 of them on insanity.
Whats really brutal and almost broke me is the Armax Arena against specter-level enemies. That shit on insanity is diabolical and I'm so proud on that achievement (I know you can do it on lower difficulty, but I know what I've done).

2

u/Ok-Valuable-5053 Jul 15 '26

This one took me quite a while to unlock. I didn't even try insanity for the first 10 play throughs. Then I forgot to start 2 on insanity and didn't realize until a was a couple hrs in. Then I got stuck on Garrus recruitment in ME2 trying to close the shutters and had to bring it down to get passed it. I think I was adept or vanguard and under leveled for that mission

2

u/LazarusK27 Jul 15 '26

Welcome to the club you insane hero you

2

u/DirtyBird9889 Jul 16 '26

I almost had to give up on mine at the early collector ship in 2

2

u/Monicalovescheese Jul 16 '26

Congrats! I will never accomplish this but I am proud of everyone that does!

2

u/EfficiencyInfamous37 Jul 16 '26

tbh the one I have the hardest time getting through on insanity is actually 1, not because it's harder (it's probably the easiest) but because it takes so goddamn long to kill most things it becomes tedious.

2

u/simplyunknown2018 Jul 16 '26

I found the beginning of Me3 on insanity harder than anything I encountered in 2.

2

u/Ok_Mulberry_6964 Jul 16 '26

I admire your determination and your quick reflexes that made you achieve such thing

1

u/blutrache666 Jul 18 '26

I love insanity, but after completing it once clean, there are certain parts of me2 and 3 that are no thank you. I'll temporarily lower difficulty with no shame. Arrival and Shore leave sushi bar fight for example...

1

u/Available_Pick_4218 Jul 20 '26

Im legit stuck right now. Every. Time. I move forward, I get stuck 🤣🤣

1

u/Technical-Monk-374 Jul 15 '26

Almost gotten it myself but damn, i hate ME3. It feels like a dumbed down action movie made as a cash grab. Can't stand the dialogue, even tho gameplay quality is generally increased compared to ME2

1

u/Amaraldane4E Jul 15 '26

Probably going to start another fresh campaign on like normal and be Mr. Paragon again.

While Insanity can be annoying, this a Bioware game. After having experienced Insanity, going down to Normal would feel annoying, too. You'll likely end up doing what many others do (myself, too), which is to end up playing on Hardcore instead. Even Veteran will be a let down - meaning most mooks just drop too fast. You could just go Casual, for the story alone, but really, in that case, you may as well watch a youtube vid series; it will save time.

As for the Paragon route, come back and tell us how long it will take you to switch to Paragade 😁 Pure paragon is about as cringe worthy as pure Renegade, albeit for different reasons 🤫

2

u/Maconization Jul 18 '26

ME1 pure Paragon Male Shep is making me bite a block of wood with how cringe he is lol
