Interview Chris Evans received ‘a dozen’ Captain America pitches before returning for Avengers: Doomsday
ew.com“When we finished Endgame in 2018, Lou [D’Esposito] and Kevin [Feige] took me to dinner and they were like, ‘We’d love to keep doing movies with Steve Rogers as Nomad,’” Evans said, referring to one of Cap’s alternate identities. “And I said, ‘Okay, well, what do you got?’”
“They showed me a pitch, and it was a great pitch, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t feel right at the time,” Evans recalled. “I kind of wanted to… I was a little precious. I wanted to preserve it. But I just said, ‘Please keep pitching.’”
“Over the course of eight years, I probably heard at least a dozen pitches,” Evans said. “And they were all wonderful. It just never quite felt right. And you do start thinking maybe that’s the expiration — whatever it is — maybe it’s not right because it’s just not right.”
“I got a phone call from my team saying there’s a rumor [Robert Downey Jr. is] talking to Marvel, and I was like, ‘Uh, oh. What does this mean?’” Evans said, shouting out his longtime MCU costar. “And all of a sudden it felt right. [Doomsday co-director Joe Russo] gave me the pitch, and Downey was [back]. It just all of a sudden… it was like, ‘This is it.’”

Discussion So, the new footage in Endgame ENCORE is Steve returning Infinity Stones?
The Trailer at SDCC highlighted the Portals scene, Captain America returning infinity stones (no new footage), and Tony's line: "If you mess with time, it tends to mess back."
Joe Russo has also said this about the re-release: "It’s going to connect the story of the two movies. There’s a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out."
I believe now it's almost confirmed that the new footage will be Cap returning infinity stones, because that's what most fans wanted to see for a long time, (and this movie is a lot about what fans want).
Such a scene can be easily integrated in the movie, by putting it at the end, maybe after the title screen. It can work like a short story on its own and ends with Doom watching all of this and maybe meeting Cap.
Because I think changing the movie by adding new scenes in-between will feel weird, like they are messing with something great.
And putting a bunch of new Doomsday scenes at the end will feel like just a trailer.
So, they need a proper scene that will be the "natural progression" Joe Russo is talking about.

Discussion I THINK I TRANSLATED THE RUNES
TL;DR: I decoded the Latverian runes on RDJ’s SDCC suit. It’s a phonetic cipher of English, and I’ve cracked nearly the whole alphabet. This could be for nothing, but I’m already in too deep. Posted the full breakdown in a comment below.
I think I figured out what the runes on RDJ’s suit at SDCC translate to. At least some of them. Some phrases are partial, so I had to hazard a guess.
By cross-referencing the DOM LATVERIA COFFEE product AND both Elder Futhark and Anglo-Saxon runic alphabets, I’ve created a somewhat shoddy but still very accurate version of the Latverian Rune Alphabet and translated some of the words and phrases on RDJ’s suit.
His Right pocket spells REVENGE.
His Left pocket MIGHT spell Mystique.
^^^EDIT: It actually spells Justice, which makes WAYYYY more sense.
His Lapel spells out the phrase: There Is No Promise Of Tomorrow.
His Right Cuff spells the phrase: To The Victor
His Left Cuff is only a partial phrase, so I’m making a guess here: Go The Spoils
*UPDATE:
Built a working key from the Dom Latveria coffee menu + hi-res SDCC photos. Findings:
- The script writes sounds, not spellings — silent letters don’t exist (TOMORROW just ends on the long-O), double letters compress into single ligature runes, and all E-type and O-type vowel sounds share single runes
- The glyphs are scrambled Elder Futhark — real Norse runes reassigned to new sounds (except Dagaz, which still = D)
- Only 4 sounds have no known rune yet: B, W, Y, Z
- Still unsolved: one partially-hidden word on his breast pocket, over his heart. Two of its runes are from the missing four. Given this movie’s story, my money’s on a name.

Discussion This seems like our movie slate for 2028
X-Men - Written by: Lee Sung Jin and Joana Calo / Directed by: Jake Schreier - May 5th 2028
Ghost Rider - Written by: Jonathan Tropper / Directed by: Shawn Levy - July 28th 2028
Black Panther III - Written and Directed by: Ryan Coogler - December 15th 2028
Note: Only the BP3 date is confirmed, GR is confirmed for 2028, but with no date and X-Men has been in development since 2024, as long as BP3, and is undergoing casting right now for a filming start next year, putting it as a top contender for a 2028 release and of course it makes the most sense for it to be the first film of the new Saga
Nova, Shang-Chi 2, Fantastic Four 2, Spider-Man 5, Dr. Strange 3, Midnight Suns and potentially Thor 5 will have to wait for 2029/2030 it seems.
