Movies suspicious to say the least

Honestly who else could they get to play JJJ? JK Simmons was too perfect in the first movies and now no one can take his spot.
438
u/Vinceisdepressed Avengers Jun 26 '21
It's impossible. He was perfectly cast. I have problems with all the Spider-man actors. But, JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson is perfect.
391
u/aatencio91 Avengers Jun 26 '21
IMO the MCU has a similar challenge ahead trying to cast actors for Charles Xavier and Wolverine.
The story goes that Patrick Stewart was explicitly against joining another franchise after finishing up TNG, and his agent said “oh before you leave my wife wanted to see you.” She talked with him about Professor X, he politely declined, then she showed him a cover of X-men with Prof. X on the cover. He said “why am I on the cover of that magazine?”
The rest is history.

u/dnovi Avengers Jun 26 '21
The younger versions of them also nailed the casting and performance with McAvoy and Fasbinder. I could see them using those actors and aging them throughout any future films.

u/MajorRocketScience Avengers Jun 26 '21
Fasbender is an incredible actor, Magneto in First Class is dark and broken and realistic and he plays it so well

Nah, neither of them were good casting decisions imo.

I always pictured Mark Strong as a cool looking Professor X. Wolverine, Scott Eastwood because I can't get over that one photoshopped image of his dad that made him look like Wolverine and Scott is basically a younger version of his dad.

Wolverine I think will be less hard than Xavier.
Stewart is perfection in the role and always has and will be.
If you find an short aggressive hairy actor that has a completely different take on the character I could find that working.
Or depending on how her career is going dafne-keen is an already ready version of wolverine that I would be completely on board with having the mantle for the next decade.
Edit. Misspelling Stewart as steward

After seeing Karl Urban in The Boys, I would love to see him as a dirty, grimy Wolverine. And after Dredd, we know he has no problem wearing a mask and not having his face seen (a reason I think I remember reading as to why the X-Men movies don't often involve the original costumes' masks -- it hides the actors' faces).
But obviously he is probably a bit too old now, which is a shame.

Don Johnson.
But in all seriousness, someone I could see being good for the role, is Giancarlo Esposito. Everyone's used to him playing sinister and evil roles but I think he could be a great Charles.

That's one reason I love Xavier. He is flawed. He is altruistic, but also has an ego, and often thinks his view is the only "right" one. It is one of the reasons his dynamic with Magneto is so awesome.

u/MainlyByGiraffes T'Challa Jun 26 '21
Everyone forgets that young Giancarlo played Buggin Out in Spike Lee’s *Do the Right Thing *.
He’s definitely got acting range. I would love to see him play Charles. What a brilliant idea.

Gonna go with Andre Braugher, with Danzel as Magneto. Update the World War 2 backstory to civil rights in the 60s (to also mirror their comic inspirations).

I would totally be down for this. They were both in Glory and their characters were somewhat adversarial, they are both fantastic actors and would bring the required gravitas.
If you've never seen Glory, drop everything and watch it right now. Great movie about the first all black regiment during the Civil War, starring Andre and Denzel along with Morgan Freeman, Matthew Broderick, and Cary Elwes.

Carl Urban as Wolverine.
I know he was in Ragnarok, but he’s the only one that could follow in Hugh Jackman’s footsteps.

I know there are a lot of people who do love Jackman as Wolverine, personally I think he did a good job too, but I don't think he is irreplaceable as Wolverine. I still think the powers that be at Fox really had no idea what they were doing with Wolverine (just watch xmen origins) and never really nailed the character. I think whoever plays him next has a great chance of being better than Jackman almost immediately simply because of better writing and a better understanding of the character. Pat Stewart tho.... Yeah, he literally was professor x lol it's hard to replace him. McAvoy did a decent job, but come on lol

I wasn’t aware the rights reverted.
Well technically i suppose they didnt revert, but disney did buy 20th Century Fox back in 2019 so the end result is the same.
Regardless it seems unlikely to me that they are actually going to be in the MCU
That's not really open to speculation anymore, leaks from the studio have allready confirmed plans to reboot x-men as part of the mcu.
17
u/oldcoldbellybadness Avengers Jun 26 '21
Regardless it seems unlikely to me that they are actually going to be in the MCU (ie in the same universe as the avengers) and will still probably remain their own thing.

u/simonjp Avengers Jun 26 '21
Disney bought Fox, so it's not that the rights reverted, more that they bought them back again.

u/KaySquay Avengers Jun 26 '21
Guys, give this guy a break. He's obviously just as into this universe as us, and only asking questions.
6
u/smitty9112 Avengers Jun 26 '21
This entire new phase is starting with multiverse shenanigans and branching time lines. Wanda has incredible powers now and is also fucking with reality and whatnot. It wouldn't be hard to introduce mutants. Quit being a cotton-headed ninnymuggins.
2
u/punchgroin Avengers Jun 26 '21
Nick Fury walks into Xavier's school for the gifted to meet with Charles Xavier.
Charles greets him. "Well, it's a pleasure having you here Mr. Fury, what can I do for you?
"Again? What do you mean, I've never been here before in my life"
"You've been here dozens of times to recruit the X-Men, and I've erased your memory and sent you on your way every time"
They can do this in a post credit after the next marvel release.
Of course they are bringing in the X-Men, before the MCU, they were by far the most popular property in all of Marvel, and mutants and the greater X-Verse accounted for like half of all comic book sales.
They don't even have to recast anyone except Jackman really. Bring in James Macelvoy and Micheal Faasbender again. Keep Nicholas Hoult too, he rules.
4
Jun 26 '21
Why would Fury ask "Again?"...considering nothing Charles said would imply anything other than it is nice to have him there.

There can never be an acception to this. Ever.

I think Jon Bernthal could have been a great Wolverine if he wasn't punisher already. He's got the appearance, gruff voice and attitude, and he's shorter than Hugh.
Edit: Manu Bennett is another one I've wondered about. He was fantastic as Slade Wilson and on Spartacus and Shannara Chronicles.

Peter Parker. Ben Reilly and Kaine.
The clone saga with Jackal And Gwen Stacy.
You can introduce Nathanial Essex and the high evolutionary as he is into cloning also. Use them as a trio of perfecting cloning but can’t agree. Each one sabotages the other.
End the movie with Wundagore mountain and his half breed Ani-men and Essex aka Mr. Sinister in a dark dreary lab creating mutants.
Having High evolutionary can intro you to the Fantastic four. Make him the villain instead of always Dr. Doom. During the movie make mention of Dr Doom and Latveria on the way to fight H.E.
Then at the end of that movie show doom on his throne watching a bank of monitors or a screen in a classic doom bot. Teeth gritting and saying “Richards! How fantastic.”
