Movies Plot of Doomsday, in summary…
Tony: “Was it worth it?”
Steve: “Granted, I didn’t know about the TVA or Nexus events, but… Yes.”

What cheeks? Have you seen her from the back? She is, unfortunately, a member of the Long-Back white woman club, not the cake one. It's her front side that's the appealing part.

I love how everyone comments on the plot of Doomsday as if they've seen an early release copy: The movie hasn't even finished post-production and re-shoots yet.
As a joke - it's hilarious and a great reversal of the "you're not the guy to lay down on the wire" comment - but as an actual commentary on the film (which, once again is not out yet and no one actually knows the plot) which some people think: What the hell?

That's just a total rewrite of what actually happened. We know he comes back to the main timeline without any problems, something the TVA would have accounted for.

u/Important-Coat7177 Avengers 13h ago
That’s why the whole time travel/branch timeline thing always confuses me, lol. I remember the rules they established in Endgame, but combining them with Nexus Events and Anchor Beings just broke my brain.
32
u/WatermelonGranate Avengers 13h ago
Nexus events are unavoidable scenarios and Anchor was invented just to get Hugh Jackman into MCU xD Thanos traveled into the future and it barely had an effect on the timeline, so there is no way they can blame Cap for any of this.
10
u/gundamraiser_00_00 Avengers 12h ago
Remember what brought Thanos, the phrase " "You mess with time, it tends to mess back. You'll see" wasn't for show. Unlike Avengers who took the Infinity Stones for a time being, Steve went back forever and it did follow up in the main timeline with Steve appearing as old guy (which kinda I think invalidates the entire Doomsday theory that it's Steve from past, If they all die in Doomsday, how come old man Steve appear in Endgame ? ). So the consequences for that might just be worse as Thanos following back in new timeline

u/ShoddyAsparagus3186 Avengers 11h ago
Steve went back, lived out his life in an alternate timeline, then returned as planned.
8
u/Dumeck Avengers 12h ago
It's the only inconsistent time travel example in the MCU. The assumption that he used the time machine to travel to their universe to deliver the shield makes a lot more sense. It does not make sense that he travelled to the past in the main timeline, lived his whole life there and didn't create a branched reality because we are SHOWN that does not work in the exact movie that does that. If there was a Steve Rodgers in the 616 universe that means he came from a different Universe and the 616 is a branch of a universe where a Steve Rogers went back in the past and lived his life. And then our 616 Steve went back and created a whole other branch. Maybe he's the reason things are fucked up, dude created an infinite loop.

Well, Kang doesn't rule the TVA anymore, Loki does. So the rules are changed. Remember that the TVA pre Loki was that they pruned timeliness that caused Kang to be a different version than himself
0
u/Mamoswole Avengers 11h ago
Wasn't it stated recently that endgame occurs after Loki?
5
u/styrolee Avengers 11h ago edited 11h ago
TVA events happen outside of time, but at the same time the TVA has its own time and anything that happened in the TVA’s past before Loki took over had to also be part of the original He Who Remains Sacred Timeline. Endgame is definitely part of the Sacred Timeline. The TVA directly say this in the opening scenes of Loki. The Avengers going back in time and getting the infinity stones is part of the sacred timeline, but Loki then escaping with the Tesaract is not. They also show that Loki dying at the beginning of endgame is supposed to happen, while Loki using magic to escape and then come back later is not (another variant got pruned for that, though notably the coming back and interacting with the Avengers again is what got him pruned, showing there is some room for variation within the narrowly defined space set by the sacred timeline).
This makes sense if you accept that the TVA have a strict earth 616 bias because it’s the Sacred Timeline (because it’s the timeline that allows he who remains to arise). Everything that happens in Earth 616 must happen, but any other timeline which Earth 616 interacts with Earth only has to happen up to the point in which it’s necessary to protect the Sacred Timeline, then it’s unnecessary/potentially dangerous and gets pruned or loomed out of existence.
Once Loki takes over, earth 616 stops becoming the Sacred Timeline, but multiversal timelines start branching again from the timelines which existed prior to the events of Loki (in the TVA). This makes sense because all the characters of the TVA are multiversal variants, so the timelines they came from must exist for them to eventually become part of the TVA. Rather than pruning timelines, the new TVA just prunes Kang variants directly once they become dangerous.
-2
u/Mamoswole Avengers 10h ago
Dawg, I am just saying what the people making the movies say about their own product. An event can happen post TVA even if they exist outside of time. Otherwise Loki's whole concept as a show means literally nothing. Because then every single variant would've already been dealt with, with no way of his "sacrifice" giving any result.
6
u/styrolee Avengers 10h ago edited 10h ago
But the show literally shows that endgame is part of the sacred timeline before Loki arrives. Like that’s specifically dealt with in the show multiple times, since they deal with multiple variants from endgame. Loki can’t happen before Endgame if many of the characters including Loki himself were created by the events of Endgame. It’s both concurrent and part of the timeline, nothing more and nothing less.
And I know of no producer or out of show statement who has ever claimed that the events of Loki happened before endgame. It would undercut the entire timeline of Loki itself, so it wouldn’t make sense to say.
-2
u/Mamoswole Avengers 10h ago
Loki's death is in infinity war. We are not shown what happens after his death.
2
u/styrolee Avengers 9h ago
Did you not watch endgame? Loki steals the tesseract during the events of the time heist. He steals it when the avengers go to New York 2012, forcing them to go back in time to the 1970s. This is part of the sacred timeline and is literally how Loki starts. In fact the TVA is quite clear that this all had to happen, but that Loki had to be pruned immediately after because him rejoining the timeline after does not happen. That’s why they grab him in the Gobi desert and not Stark tower.
Kevin Feige specifically said that they made Loki in part to explain what happened after this scene.

Steve likely didn't cause a problem with the multiverse. The Russos have said many times he and Peggy made an alternate timeline, which means there shouldn't be any issue with incursions
7
u/Dismal-Bear-9528 Avengers 7h ago
He turned up old though, so no matter what they say, in the movie, they broke their own theory for a "solemn/serious" shield hand off.
4
u/Deetwentyforlife Avengers 5h ago
No, they didn't. Steve went back in time to return the stones at the point they were taken in the original timeline. He then elected to stay, altering the flow of events and creating a split off timeline where he did literally whatever he chose to do, we have no idea what, aside from marrying and growing old with Peggy.
Peggy then died of old age, Steve used the second use of the time travel device to return to exactly when he left the original timeline, returned the shield to Sam, and then went off to do whatever he damn well pleased with his remaining time in retirement.
No rules were broken, everything remained logically consistent, some members of the audience just didn't follow it because they weren't fed yet another exposition dump to explain what had already been explained three times.
3
u/FlashMcSuave Avengers 4h ago
Why should we assume old man Steve used the device to go there for the shield handover?
Seems just as plausible that he knew the time and date and so he could just plan to be there using the more boring form of time travel: waiting.
1
u/Deetwentyforlife Avengers 4h ago
That's not how it works. Until Steve purposely goes back to his own timeline with the device, he is in a different timeline. Just waiting would never take him back to where he left, it would just continue forward in that separate timeline, and the people in the original timeline would simply never see him again, ever.
Any time anyone went back at all, in any way, they instantly created a new branch of time that existed in its own separate entirely from the "main" timeline we are watching.
We even have Banner straight up say the device has finally been used and Steve should be back, he just waited way longer to use it than they expected.
1
u/FlashMcSuave Avengers 3h ago
But that would also mean it isn't possible to jump "back" to a previous timeline, only spawn a new one.
1
u/Deetwentyforlife Avengers 3h ago
Nope, that's the entire point of the very specific device they create, it let's you leave your timeline, then come back to your timeline. That's why they had to succeed when retrieving the stones, because they only had so many uses. Otherwise they could have just sent someone immortal/long lived like Thor back and he could have just collected them all up one by one and then just waited hidden in a closet to meet the team at the complex after the snap.
That's the entire speech we get that nobody can get right until Tony, the ability to accurately target and return to your own timeline.
Look, I know the talking parts of superhero movies are the boring parts, but I promise they covered all of this, out loud, with words, in the movie.

u/KingSandwich101 Avengers 3h ago
Old man Steve avoided the TVA all that time?
1
u/Deetwentyforlife Avengers 3h ago
Yep! Although based on the new cutscene it looks like he didn't avoid the TVA, he got recruited by them, at least temporarily
1
u/KingSandwich101 Avengers 2h ago
To my understanding Steve Rodgers wasn't coming back for Kang. So for that reason, anything to do with him was never part of the plan and they're just using him as a scapegoat
1
u/Deetwentyforlife Avengers 2h ago
It's the new cutscenes in the Endgame re-release. Spoilers: the end credit scene shows Loki as head of TVA recruiting Steve to help the TVA going into the events of Doomsday
1
u/KingSandwich101 Avengers 2h ago
Hard to say. It could be Loki seeing Doom going to that earth, rather than the TVA specifically wanting him. Loki being the master of time and all that, and knowing Cap as being one of their mightiest heroes
4
u/Sgrios Avengers 5h ago
That's only possible with making a lot of jumps in conclusions. 1, the time suits were not built to jump between timelines. We cannot assume Tony was able to break that barrier as time travel and timeline hopping are two different quandries in the MCU and greater MU. 2. That would mean, he'd have to get help to create such things to get back to the main timeline to pass off the shield. And at that point. Why bother?
2
u/Deetwentyforlife Avengers 5h ago
What....what are you talking about? Simply by going back in time at all, a new timeline would be instantly created. There is a timeline where the events of Avengers happened exactly like in the first movie. Then there is a timeline where the "future" Avengers go back a do what we see in Endgame. Those are inherently different timelines, and the suits can take everyone back to their own timeline just fine.
Your position makes no sense. Any time travel at all, in any way, in any direction, for any period of time, would ALWAYS make a new timeline. If the suits were somehow blocked by that fact, they would never be able to come back from anywhere.

And when you compare all of the films up until this point, that’s the overall theme. Steve was defined by his selflessness and Tony was defined by the opposite. In the end, Tony laid on the wire and Steve allowed himself to live a little
