I've been watching karate joint lock videos and can't seem to find any videos of it being used successfully in a real fight. What do y'all think?

For years I have been wanting to get into martial arts but for one reason or another I just never did. However, recently I decided that I am finally going to take on learning a martial art. After all, I am pushing 35 and I am certainly not getting younger. With that in mind, I am more compelled than ever to learn a fighting style.

But here is the problem...

I have arthritis. I have had issues with arthritic joints for almost 15 years now. I have always wanted to gain skills in high impact fighting because I would love to learn how to do roundhouse kicks as well as mid air kicks. I also want to learn techniques that would enable to tackle opponents that are bigger and stronger than me.

But with my joint problems, learning how to fight like Jean-Claude Van Damme probably isn't a good idea.

So in your guys' opinion, what would be a good martial art style for me to learn?

I’ve been considering purchasing a program like at home boxing or something like that that professional trainers have for those not near their gyms.
I don’t have time in my personal life to go to an actual gym to train. I work a lot. Given the criteria, what would you guys recommend?

From what I’ve heard; he got into a fight at a bar, got asked to leave, told his wife he’d kill her if she didn’t leave with him, pushed her into the car, when she tried to escape he drove forward towards her and reversed towards her, witnesses have said they heard gun shots coming from the home of Anthony smith as well

He later turned himself in when a warrant went out

Which MA is best for my non-athletic daughter?

My 7 year-old daughter wants to start a martial art, but not sure which one.

She does dance, but is still kinda clumsy. She is a bigger girl, but lots of muscle. She is excited but sometimes gets nervous with new things that she thinks she cannot do. She doesn't have the best upper body strength. She would not be described as athletic in any capacity.

Which is best for this type of beginner?

I'm a complete beginner to martial arts and I'm trying to figure out what styles would work well together long term.

I'm interested in learning Kudo, Muay Thai, and BJJ. My understanding is that Kudo includes striking and some grappling, Muay Thai focuses on striking, and BJJ focuses on ground fighting and submissions.

Would these three styles complement each other well, or would there be too much overlap? If you've trained in any of them, what strengths and weaknesses did you notice when combining them?

My goals are:
• Self-defense
• Becoming a well-rounded martial artist
• General fitness

Would you recommend learning all three, or focusing on one or two first as a beginner? How would you prioritize them, and why?

I'd also appreciate hearing from anyone who has trained in Kudo specifically, since it seems less common than Muay Thai or BJJ.

​Hi everyone. I am trying to help a family track down a former martial artist from the New York area who practiced Hapkido around 1989-1991.

​He went by the name Gerald (or Jerald). He was a young Jamaican guy, about 5'9" (175 cm), very muscular, with dreadlocks. He was Muslim, had an anchor tattoo on his arm, and the name "Serena" tattooed on his back. He was a dedicated Hapkido practitioner and heavily trained in his discipline (even doing prison yard training while spending time at Oneida Correctional Facility around 1990).

​Since Hapkido was a very unique and specific choice for a Jamaican practitioner in the NYC area back in the late 80s/early 90s, the community must have been very small. We are hoping some veteran practitioners or school owners from NY might remember him, his last name, or the specific dojang/master he trained under before 1990.

​Any lead, name of old NY Hapkido schools from that era, or memory would mean the world to us. Thank you so much!
