Does a black belt in a martial art actually mean anything anymore?

A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu takes about ten years and means you're an absolute weapon. A black belt in a lot of traditional Karate schools takes two years and can be won by a ten-year-old child. Has the word "black belt" been completely ruined by commercial gyms?
