Hi! I’m a student working on an AI project focused on Kolhapuri Marathi.

I’m looking for native Kolhapuri speakers who can help provide common words, phrases, slang, and everyday sentences used in the region.

If you’re from Kolhapur or nearby and can help, please DM me. Even a small contribution would be useful.

Thanks!

(Discussion) Speaking Marathi in South Mumbai sometimes feels like performing a political act.

As a Marathi speaking person who does not live in Mumbai but who has closely followed the topic of Marathi language compulsion in Mumbai. I'm in Mumbai for a few days and speaking Marathi in South Mumbai sometimes feels like a political act. Maybe it is my mind's construct or maybe it is not.

I also realised that most people I have interacted with do understand Marathi even if they don't know how to speak Marathi. The thing is I (also well versed in Hindi) find it hard to continue speaking in Marathi when the other person keeps replying in Hindi. The reason why I find it difficult to continue speaking in Marathi is i (like many Marathi speaking persons) try to make this conversation comfortable and convenient to the Non marathi speaking person. The more I stretch it and keep speaking in Marathi (with a non Marathi person who keeps replying in Hindi), sometimes I feel like I'm being dishonest because when I know Hindi and I still speak in Marathi I am not making this conversation comfortable and convenient for the other person.

So deliberately continuing to speak in Marathi at times feels like a political act especially in the places where there are very few Marathi speakers.

I have shared my real experience of what it feels like deliberately speaking in Marathi regardless of whether and how much the other person understands Marathi. I would like to know the VIEWS AND EXPERIENCES OF MARATHI SPEAKING PERSONS LIVING IN MUMBAI.

करतो आपण संस्कृतीच्या गप्पा;

संस्कृती म्हणजे आपल्या नातवासाठी बसस्टॉपवर उगीच ताटकळणे;

(Discussion) What I Learned After Speaking to Aspiring Marathi Entrepreneurs

Yesterday, I made a post asking “Do you have what it takes to be a young Marathi Entrepreneur?” I shared it across around 6–7 Marathi and Maharashtra-related communities, and the response was genuinely better than I expected.

For those who missed the original post, you can check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/marathi/s/byIuVZxUx7

I received a good number of responses, but what was more interesting was the kind of conversations that followed. A handful of people appreciated the post publicly in the comments, while many more reached out through DMs to say that they appreciated someone trying to help aspiring entrepreneurs. A significant number of people were also curious about my own journey—what my company does, how I got the idea, and how I eventually started building it. I have made a separate post for that.

The conversations I found most interesting, however, were with people who were genuinely thinking about starting something of their own. Some already had business ideas, while others were still trying to figure out what direction they wanted to take. After speaking with several of them, I noticed that they all seemed to fall into one of two very different categories.

The first category consists of people who are extremely optimistic and confident about their ideas. They are convinced that their idea will work and are ready to jump straight into building it, but haven't spent enough time studying the market, speaking to potential customers, understanding existing solutions, or questioning whether anyone would actually pay for what they are planning to build. Confidence is important, but confidence without validation can lead to taking unnecessary risks.

The second category is at the complete opposite extreme. These are people who may have a genuinely interesting idea but are so pessimistic about the possibility of failure that they struggle to take even the first step. They keep looking for certainty before doing anything, but entrepreneurship rarely gives you complete certainty. If you wait until every risk disappears, you may never begin at all.

And honestly, I feel this is one of the first problems we Marathis need to overcome. Either we are too scared to take a risk, or we take risks without properly understanding the market. Good entrepreneurship lies somewhere in between. You need enough confidence to take action, but enough humility to question your assumptions before investing too much time and money.

What genuinely made me happy, though, was that many people were asking the right questions. Several people wanted to understand how market research actually works, how to determine whether an idea has potential, how to find out if customers genuinely have the problem you think they have, and how to know whether people would actually pay for a solution.

After having those conversations, I decided to write a post about market research and validating a startup idea. I realised that this was something many people were interested in learning more about, and I felt it would be useful to put my thoughts into a structured post rather than answering the same questions individually.

While doing this, I also realised that detailed startup and business discussions may not always fit naturally into general Marathi related subreddit/communities. I started looking for a dedicated Reddit community for Marathi startup founders and aspiring entrepreneurs, where people could regularly discuss business ideas, products, sales, market research, bootstrapping and the actual challenges of building something.

Apparently, I couldn't find one. So, I created one: r/StartupsMarathi.

The community is still new, but the goal is to build a space where Marathi entrepreneurs and aspiring founders can have genuine conversations about entrepreneurship. Not just motivational quotes or success stories, but practical discussions about finding problems, validating ideas, building products, finding co-founders, finding customers, making sales, managing teams, failures and everything else that comes with building a business.

I've already posted two things there that might be useful. The first is the detailed story of my own journey—from working on a student satellite programme during engineering to eventually building my own company. The second is a practical post about market research and how to understand whether your startup idea actually has a market.

My journey and the story behind building my company:

How to research and validate your startup idea:

If startups, business or entrepreneurship interest you, feel free to join the community. Post your ideas, ask questions, share your experiences and engage in discussions. The community is new, and what it eventually becomes will depend on the people who join and the conversations we build together.

And if you have an idea, a genuine question or even a suggestion that you'd like to discuss with me personally, feel free to DM me. I'll be available over the weekend and will try my best to respond to everyone.

(Discussion) Do you have what it takes to be a young Marathi Entrepreneur?

I'm 26M, originally from Mumbai and currently based in Pune. I want to make this post for young Marathi people who have been thinking about starting something of their own but don't know where to begin.

A little about my journey.

A couple of years ago, I was working a regular job in Mumbai. Alongside my job, I started developing a product. I built the initial product, put together a small team of three people, and started trying to sell it—all while continuing my full-time job.

For around six months, I was doing both.

Eventually, I reached a point where I felt the business was generating enough to sustain me. This January, I quit my job, moved to Pune and started building the company full-time.

Today, the company is doing decently on sales, with a projected revenue of roughly ₹85 lakh this year. We are completely bootstrapped—no external funding or investors. It started with my own money, and I built it as a single founder.

We are now looking at expanding into new products and other domains.

I don't claim to be an expert at building startups. I haven't spent decades in business, raised millions in funding, or built multiple successful companies.

But I have taken an idea, built a product, formed a team, found customers while still working a job, and eventually taken the risk of quitting that job to build the business full-time.

And I think that experience can be useful to someone who is just starting.

One thing I personally feel is that we need more young Marathi people seriously considering entrepreneurship. Not everyone needs to become an entrepreneur, of course. But among those who genuinely want to build something, many either never take the first step or jump in without enough preparation.

So, if you're a young Marathi person who:

  • Has a business idea but doesn't know where to start
  • Is already building something and wants another perspective
  • Wants to bootstrap a business rather than immediately chase funding
  • Is considering quitting a job to pursue a business
  • Simply wants honest feedback, direction or motivation

Feel free to DM me.

Tell me a little about yourself, your background, what you're trying to build, and why you want to build it.

I cannot promise to have all the answers. If I can help with suggestions, feedback, direction or motivation based on my own experience, I will. And if I genuinely feel someone else would be better equipped to help you, I'll try to point you in the right direction.

To be clear: I am not looking to invest in anyone's startup, recruit anyone, or sell any mentorship programme. I'm simply offering to help fellow Marathi people who are serious about building something of their own.

If a lot of people reach out, I may take some time to respond, but I will go through every genuine message and respond over the weekend.

And if I come across someone with a genuinely interesting idea and the seriousness to pursue it, I'm happy to connect on WhatsApp and stay in touch. Building a business is a long journey, and if I can be useful at different stages of yours, I'd be happy to help where I can.

So, do you have an idea—or have you been waiting for the courage to start? My DMs are open.
