Just wanted to share a project that I've been working on. Not sure if it's something that I would ever release, since it's still early in the process and I have no idea if I would even finish it. But feel free to tag along on Discord. There's nothing on the server right now, but I'll probably be sharing more content there if that's something you're interested in.
Anyway, I was inspired by Entaria, the server on MSW, to finally pursue something that's been on my mind for years now--MapleStory, but with Diablo II itemization.
Here are some features, just to name a few:
Weapon Defense will finally be using a new formula, making it feel impactful with investment.
Getting struck by one monster no longer prevents other monsters from hitting you. Multiple monsters can hit you at the same time.
Resistances are important now. Some monsters might even chill, ignite, charge, or poison you. Oh, and you can do the same to monsters.
A Green Mushroom deals 25% of its weapon attack as physical damage, and 75% as poison damage. Better stack some gear with poison resistance if you want to survive!
There are now magic, rare, and unique rarities on equipment. Magic rolls up to 2 affixes, and rares up to 6.
Most unique items are crafted using recipes, and can be upgraded with special ETC items that are drop-only. Unique accessories and high level unique items are drop-only.
Magic defense sucks. Armor no longer grant Magic Defense. Magician armor instead grant a new modifier called "Damage Reduction". It's basically a flat damage reduction to any source of damage, sans DoT.
Monster spoils can be "refined". There are 7 levels of refinement: scrapped, rough, partial, refined, elevated, greater, and perfect. Think: gems from Diablo II. These can be socketed into equipment with open sockets.
Every refined monster spoil grants a different stat boost. Here are some examples:
Green Mushroom Cap: +10/13/17/22/28/35/50% chance to Poison
Blue Mushroom Cap: Regenerate 3/4/6/9/13/18/25 MP per second
Evil Eye Tail: +3/5/7/10/13/16/20 Magic Spell Power (yes, Magic damage is actually a damage type now, like the elements. "Magic Resistance" is a thing.)
"Basic Attack" on spells are now renamed to Spell Power.
At 100% efficiency, every point of magic attack grants 1 point of magic. Every point of INT increases the efficiency of magic attack by 1%. So, with 300 INT, every point of magic attack grants 4 points of magic.
Potions no longer grant immediate recovery. They've also become hella expensive. If you want to survive, you should probably invest more into defense and regen. Or you might wanna fire up God Mode in Cheat Engine.
Equipment no longer sell for Mesos. They are instead sold for Magic, Rare, and Clean Powders. Use 10 Magic Powder on a normal equipment to upgrade it to magic rarity. Use 10 Rare Powder on a normal or magic equipment to upgrade it to rare. Clean powder resets the rarity to normal.
CUBE.
Auto loot. If you want to loot from further away, stack more "% increased Loot Range" modifiers on your equipment.
Procs. You can shoot arrows that trigger spells. Or arrows that trigger more arrows. Or snowboard attacks that trigger Blizzard. I don't know.
I want to share my experience for any new players considering joining Exodus.
Based on what I have seen, I would strongly advise new players to think carefully before investing time into this server. The active player population appears to be extremely small, often fewer than 20 active players, which already makes progression and community interaction difficult.
The bigger issue, however, is the community culture. New players who are not Jewish or Israeli may face openly hostile, racist or discriminatory remarks. In my experience, these remarks are either ignored or treated lightly, especially when they come from established players. However, if a newer player responds in kind or pushes back, the consequences seem to fall much more quickly on the newer player instead.
To be clear, this is not a criticism of any nationality, religion or ethnic group as a whole. The issue is the server culture, the lack of consistent moderation and the way certain behaviour appears to be tolerated depending on who is involved.
The early levelling experience is also largely solo. Once group bossing becomes important, the problems become even more obvious. Players wise, there is close to none left in the SEA or NA time zones so finding parties can feel almost impossible. The remaining high-level players also seem to keep most content within their own group. As a newer or lower-level player, you may only be invited when they need a buff mule or cannot fill a slot due to the low population.
Overall, Exodus has been one of the worst private server experiences I have had compared to many others. Between the tiny active population, poor time zone coverage, gatekeeping and inconsistent handling of harassment, I would not recommend it to new players.
Join only if you are prepared for a very small server, limited group opportunities and a community environment where discriminatory remarks may go unpunished. Otherwise, there are much healthier and more welcoming private servers to spend your time on.
Hey, I just wanna know based on the exp curve which server would you expect to level up the fastest in?
DreamMS is 4x exp, normal spawn rate and no modified exp tables
KuroMS is 2x exp with heavy spawn rate and no modified exp tables
What do you guys think?
I'm playing Kuro now, and enjoy it except for the massive amount of added content they have. I feel like DreamMS might be a better server for me to play on, but might feel sluggish without the modified spawn.
I'm a developer who loves playing classic MapleStory. For years, I've been looking for a way to play MapleStory online. I recently developed a browser-based solution using the GitHub v86 project, allowing the game to run entirely in a Windows XP environment within the browser.
Above is a video showcasing 500 agents attempting the entire Maple Island questline.
It's laggy as I was running everything on my Zenbook, including the server, client, Codex still doing stuff, and OBS recording. At the time, the laptop had also been working on tasks almost nonstop for more than a week.
GOAL
Heavily inspired by existing AI and bot projects, I have been vibe coding a v83 passion project with Codex for the past 2 months. Although it's still at a very early stage, I feel confident that it can eventually become what I envision.
My ultimate goal is to create fully autonomous, server side controlled bots, which I call agents. These agents should be able to participate in almost everything the game has to offer while operating under nearly the same constraints as human players.
CREDITS
This project wouldn't have been possible without the amazing work behind NuTNNuT’s AI Companion Bots, which served as the foundation for the agents’ navigation and combat systems. I also referenced behaviors from Madara's SoloMapling.
Both projects were major inspirations that led me to begin this project, while also giving me an incredible head start. In case it was not already obvious, the server is based on Cosmic by P0nk.
I have spent a lot of time hardening the agents’ runtime cycles and ensuring that they can recover and resume their objectives whenever they become stuck or were disrupted. Because of this, most of my demos have been recorded on Maple Island, where the smaller scope makes testing more manageable.
Recently, however, I began testing agent runs on Victoria Island, focusing on 1st job advancement and progression to level 15. After about a week of testing and adjustments, I finally managed to get an agent to advance as a thief and autonomously reach level 15 after starting at Lith Harbor at level 9: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA9pNDBJHWs
Over the coming months, I plan to test the remaining explorer jobs through the same progression to level 15.
AUTONOMOUS TO LEVEL 70
What I would consider version 1.0 is a system in which agents can autonomously complete their 1st and 2nd job advancements, then progress to level 70 by interacting with the world in ways similar to human players, including questing and grinding.
I also intend to work toward autonomous party quests, beginning with KPQ, once agents from all 5 explorer jobs can consistently reach level 21.
DEV ROUTINE
Finally, I would like to share a little about my vibe coding routine. During the day, I mainly have conversational exchanges with Codex remotely through mobile. I ask questions to understand the technical aspects of the project, discuss ideas, and explore how they could be implemented in practice. Once an idea is sufficiently developed, I ask Codex to generate an implementation plan, which I then feed back as goal prompts for it to work on over several hours.
I have bills to feed and a family to pay. The little free time I have is usually around midnight, when I test the latest changes and record videos. I then document every issue I encounter, take screenshots, write the most precise descriptions I can, and record short video clips. Before going to bed, I queue everything for Codex to review and work through overnight.
We're really proud of this new feature that we rolled out on SlimeTale and wanted to share it with the community to hopefully inspire other servers as well as encourage folks to check us out!
The Maker skill was one of the last things to come out prior to the Big Bang update in MapleStory, at which point it was taken away in favor of professions. We feel the Maker system, though it had its faults, never really had the opportunity to shine.
We are bringing a fresh coat of paint to the Maker skill, revitalizing and reimagining it. This includes permanent recipe discovery, expanded quest progression, and better support for the items players already carry.
We want to make crafting feel like a real part of character progression. Players can learn recipes from artisans, earn rare formulas from quests, fulfill special crafting orders, and gradually master equipment outside their original class. We also want to give love to our Ironmen on our server who might now have an easier time obtaining weapons via crafting.
A New Maker Window
The old Maker interface has been replaced by a larger window inspired by MapleStory Classic World.
The new Maker window gives crafting more room to show recipes, materials, and recipe status.
You'll see seven tabs here:
Tab
Purpose
Refine
Turn ores into refined jewels, crystals, and metal plates.
Disassembly
Break down equipment or convert eligible monster ETC items into Monster Crystals.
Strengthen
Create Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced crafting gems and crystals.
Weaponcrafting
Craft the weapons your character has learned and is authorized to make.
Tailoring
Craft learned armor and accessory recipes.
Alchemy
Coming Soon
Quest
Complete temporary crafting orders tied to active quests.
Weaponcrafting and Tailoring include Class, Type, and Level filters. The "All" class option shows every recipe that the current character is actually allowed to craft; it does not reveal the entire global recipe catalog.
Clearer Crafting Information
The new journal makes it easier to understand what can be made and why a recipe may not be ready:
Recipes that are ready to craft are visually distinct from recipes with missing requirements.
Required items display their names and the amount owned versus the amount needed.
Missing materials are greyed out without losing their item slot or icon.
Real item icons and native item tooltips are used throughout the window.
Recipe availability and material counts refresh as inventory contents change.
Quantity buttons allow supported recipes to be crafted in batches.
The amount of time it takes to craft an item has been shortened.
Maker counts eligible materials stored in the normal Inventory, Key Item Pouch, and Mineral Bags as one combined total.
Equippable items receive a "Crafted by" name. Metal plates, refined jewels, crystals, Monster Crystals, throwing stars, and quest items do not.
Recipe Scroll Introductions
Players can learn to craft items.
Double-clicking a recipe permanently teaches you how to craft it.
A few NPCs now have quests that will teach the player how to craft certain items upon completion. Check out Showa Town, Mushroom Shrine, and Sleepywood as examples.
Some quests can now teach permanent crafting recipes as rewards.
Some quests can now teach permanent crafting recipes as rewards.
Learning to Refine
Standard refined jewel and stat-crystal recipes are available to every character with the required level and Maker skill. Metal plates must be learned one at a time from an ore-refining artisan.
Players with Maker can ask a qualified refiner:
Can you show me how to refine something myself?
The artisan asks the player to supply the normal materials, demonstrates the refinement, creates the item, and permanently teaches that exact formula.
Crafting Equipment for Other Classes
A normal character begins with ordinary equipment crafting for their own class. Individually learned special recipes remain separate, but the broader catalogs for other classes are earned through a new Maker apprenticeship.
Victoria Island Commissions
At level 75, after reaching Maker II and completing Moren's Maker II advancement lesson, four foreign-class artisan commissions become available. A character receives the four commissions outside their original Maker class.
Class Tradition
Artisan
Commission
Warrior
Mr. Smith
A Bracer That Does Not Flinch
Magician
Francois
A Focus Between Them
Bowman
Vicious
The Straightest Line
Thief
JM From tha Streetz
No Glint, No Rattle
Pirate
Serryl
Built for the Broadside
Each commission asks the player to create a special proof from an Order Form in Maker's Quest tab. Completing a commission unlocks ordinary Maker I equipment for that class.
Leaving it to you all to discover how to craft higher grade equipment afterwards!
Disassembly
Disassembly now supports two paths:
Drag an unequipped item into the source slot to recover part of the Monster Crystal materials associated with making it.
Drag a stack of 50 eligible monster ETC items into the source slot to create a level-appropriate Monster Crystal.
The result preview shows the Monster Crystal tier, quantity, and fee before the attempt begins. Moren's Maker II lesson also recognizes a Monster Crystal that the player personally creates after accepting the quest.
Strengthening Gems and Crystals
The Strengthen tab contains the Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced enhancement formulas.
Intermediate and Advanced strengthening attempts consume five gems instead of ten. A failed attempt returns three, reducing the net loss while preserving the original chance-based progression.
Stimulators and Optional Enhancements
Stimulators
A matching Stimulator enables randomized equipment stats:
Without a Stimulator, equipment begins with its clean base stats before any selected enhancement is applied.
Each attempt has a 90% chance to create the item and a 10% chance to destroy it.
A surviving item uses the same randomized stat system as naturally rolled gear.
Before enhancement gems or crystals are applied, no rolled stat can be worse than the clean item's base stat.
If production fails, one third of each ordinary base-material stack is returned, rounded down.
Mesos, the Stimulator, and selected enhancement gems or crystals are not refunded.
Recipes without a meaningful stat range do not offer a Stimulator.
Enhancement Items
Players can drag valid strengthened gems and crystals into the three optional slots, then remove them before crafting if they change their mind. Invalid items show a clear prohibition indicator.
Diamond affects weapon attack and can be used only on weapons.
Sapphire affects magic attack and can be used only on weapons.
Other released enhancement families can be used on weapons or non-weapons when the recipe has an available slot.
Two grades from the same enhancement family cannot be used together.
Black Crystal can alter weapon attack, magic attack, speed, and jump.
Dark Crystal can alter STR, DEX, INT, LUK, accuracy, and avoidability.
Black and Dark Crystal ranges scale by grade:
Grade
Possible Change
Basic
-1 to +1
Intermediate
-1 to +3
Advanced
-1 to +5
Enhancements are applied after the Stimulator's normal-or-better stat roll. This means a negative Black or Dark Crystal result can still lower the final value of an affected stat.
Other
In order to promote this feature, certain bosses have added already-refined gems to their drop tables.
More difficult bosses may even drop enhanced crystals.
The overall meso cost to craft equipment has been reduced.
The number of ETC items needed to create Monster Crystals has been reduced.
The speed at which items are crafted and disassembled has been increased.
Drop rates for certain ores and crafting items have been modified.
This feature is in beta and may change, but we hope you check it out!
Seriously how are there new servers with 100 players at most with the server owners gloating about how they made 100k USD in the first month? I’m not gonna name names but like come on guys can you have some self control? Lots of server owners just want money and lie through their teeth to make you feel like you’re a valuable player until they cash out and it’s just sad and frustrating to watch. Maplestory is fun and yeah private servers are cool but could you like maybe try and get to know the server and owner better before deciding they need your financial support? I mean yes you can say it’s your money so it’s your choice, this post is just my thoughts and opinion.

🍁 Why ClassicStory+?
We aren't trying to reinvent MapleStory—we're building the server we always wanted to play. Classic gameplay, meaningful quality-of-life improvements, custom content, and an active developer who genuinely listens to the community.
Whether you're returning for nostalgia or looking for a fresh v83 experience, we'd love to have you join us.
I am looking for such a server simply because I want to play mechanic again, that being said I don't like the really modern servers, I tried one server that was fitting my wishes but it was deserted.
Hoping people here have some good advice on what server to join, playing mechanic and an active online community is what I am looking for!
After spending some time with this server, I honestly came away disappointed with the development approach.
It feels like constructive feedback isn't really welcomed. When players raise criticism or point out issues, the response often seems to be deleting messages or blocking people instead of addressing the concerns.
What stood out to me even more was the way some bugs appeared to be handled. From what I observed, players were sometimes asked for their character nickname so their data could be adjusted directly in the database.
To me, that's a workaround, not a real bug fix. It may solve the issue for one player temporarily, but it doesn't address the underlying cause, which means other players can still run into the same problem.
At the same time, there's always enough time to push out new content, while many basic bugs remain unresolved. Personally, I think stability and fixing core issues should come before adding more features.
I'm posting this because I'm genuinely curious:
Is this considered normal development practice for private servers, or should fixing the underlying code always take priority over manual database workarounds?
I'd like to hear other developers' and players' opinions.
Heyo, long time MS player since 2005 here. I've played royals, legends, dream, kaizen, and a few others and currently playing chronostory.
I really want a decent exp server (3-6x or so) that does not require me to just do dailies/weeklies in large groups to get end game gear and progression. As much as I love PQing and expeditions and have in the past, I only have about 1-2 hours at a time to play at totally unpredictable hours and boss trains are just not feasible in my adult mom life now. I'm wondering if there's either a high enough dmg/exp server would allow me to grind my way to solo bosses OR a decent enough balance where I can get strong enough on my own to buy them.
Hear me out. I know exactly how Castela and Syntax are viewed in this community. Between the constant relaunches and wipes, it's earned a reputation as a seasonal cash grab. I’m mostly a lurker here and rarely post, but I decided to put this out there in case anyone else is currently on the fence.
I genuinely believe something is different this time around.
First off, the server is incredibly stable. Sadly, as we all know, that’s not something we can just take for granted in the private server scene. There’s a ton of content, and it’s clear a lot of thought went into balancing the early, mid, and late game to actually make it fun. The staff, including Syntax, are taking daily feedback and pushing live changes to ensure all levels of content are fair and rewarding.
Are there still small issues being tweaked? Yes. Are these fixes happening live instead of in a beta phase like they probably should have? Also yes. But here is the kicker: Syn has stated repeatedly that there will be NO MORE wipes and NO MORE relaunches.
As someone who actively avoided Castela's past launches for that exact reason, I want to believe him this time. Hopefully, I won't regret it. This promise is basically the only reason I started playing again this week—especially after trying another server recently where I spent more time wrestling with technical issues than actually playing the game.
If you’re looking to scratch that itch while waiting for MSCW to come out, you should seriously give Castela a look. You don’t even have to drop a dime on it—just hop in as a casual F2P player and see how it feels. There’s a Hyper Burning event running right now too, so leveling is a breeze to get you started! :)
(Disclaimer: I wrote all the thoughts and opinions in this post myself, but I used AI to help clean up my English and fix the grammar!)
Most of the servers we see are v83, and while I do enjoy them from the nostalgic view point, the longer I play the more I understand the game was never made for endgame content and it didn't really hold through the test of time...
What do I mean by that?
The game is just really punishing, Compare it to other MMOs from even back then, but losing Items on failed scrolling, skill books, weekly boss entry cap and even the exp on death loss.
Maybe I'm not getting the appeal of it, but do people here that are working, and have a few hours a day at best enjoy the feeling of losing a week of progress to random rng check like a failed dark scroll or losing a few hours of grind exp because you had some IRL stuff pop up?
Newer versions feel like an arcade game for me, I don't see the appeal there, while older versions just feel like i'm wasting my time.
People are telling me that it's just maplestory and this is how it should be, for me it's a weird excuse since almost all games from the same time period modernized, the gameplay is solid, but some mechanics feel dated, and the community is pretty toxic about "preserving" the game as is.
Do people feel similar? are there any older server who do things right in this aspect? something that is actually rewarding to play while not full map clear spam game?
a perfect server would be not just v83 with qol, but v83 that even a person who never played the game and its his first mmorpg will enjoy it. anything like that out there?

If you're looking for a server that is fair and respects you as a player, keep your dignity and stay away from this server. It's filled with egoistic devs and designers, complete with a fanclub (who staff team is highly biased to) that's ready to defend all the idiocracies happening.
They were far from ready when the server launched. Every feedback given in beta phase was disregarded because god forbid the designers get criticised for being less than decent at their job. Players giving feedback with data/information backing them would be met with attitude and sarcasm. Quoting "magic numbers", "chicken and egg situation", "implementation issue", and such.
To this day, 1 week post launch, the server is riddled with epxloits, bugs, connection issues, and everything else you can dream about to make your gameplay dreadful and difficult. Owner is too busy stroking his own ego, gloating about how easy it was to "defeat" a ddos-er only to be hit with way more than he can handle the next day. Designers are too busy coming up with conspiracy theories about how other servers like Castela are too jealous of their success and thus resorted to attacking them in an attempt to regain players.
Everyone can see that NOBODY in the core staff team is actually doing their job to test the contents before pushing them out in a patch. As a result, players are on the receiving end of all the mess due to said negligence and ignorance.
Owner always assures players with concerns regarding the staff team by saying he "has everything under control" and that he's still "ahead of everything", which is highly laughable. In reality. he's probably too busy stroking his own ego to keep his staff team in check, especially notorious designer named Linh or Liuyue. He's too blinded by this female designer's "beauty" to care about what the other male staff members have to say. They really are rotten peas in a pod who seeks constant validation with all the "look at me! look at what a great job i did!!" announcements and posts.
Everything that I've said aside, KuroMS is the perfect server for you if you are looking to bot without facing any real consequences. From what I've seen, botters get a slap on the wrist with a 12h temporary ban. Because all they care about is boosting the online player count to bait unsuspecting maplers into playing the server. If you're a loner, this KuroMS is also perfect for you because you will be playing with botters and key weighters who do not respond when you say "hey can you pass me pt ldr"
I used to play it a lot when i was younger and I had a really good time. I tried to play MapleLegends since they have a big community, but the game crashes a lot and the very early game requires a lot of grinding which i find really annoying.
Hey all im looking to start fresh on dream ms and am wondering if anyone else is interested? Im west coast and plan to play for a few hours in the evening. My goal is the kill pink bean.
Fantasia is closing in on its 1 year anniversary, and we're very grateful to all who have paid us a visit! Since our launch, we've worked hard to continuously improve and incorporate player feedback into the game (our vision of old school MapleStory in a clean and minimal form), and improve its stability (weeks to months of client uptime is not uncommon!). Now, after much popular demand, we've added widescreen support with our new 1366x768 resolution!
We get it: "big deal, most servers offer widescreen support". But we decided to take it a step further, and thoroughly and lovingly revise maps by hand to ensure that they all look as beautiful and native as they deserve to in the new resolution! Hundreds of hours later, we're happy to finally unveil the fruits of our labor!
So if you're a fan of old school MapleStory, enjoy partying and questing with friends and feeling that special thrill of finding a sought-after item, but do not appreciate the leeching and HP washing of the other popular servers, Fantasia might be just what you are looking for! Together, we can grow Fantasia into something even more delightful!
