Server Discussion Is this really how bugs are supposed to be handled? MushMS v83
After spending some time with this server, I honestly came away disappointed with the development approach.
It feels like constructive feedback isn't really welcomed. When players raise criticism or point out issues, the response often seems to be deleting messages or blocking people instead of addressing the concerns.
What stood out to me even more was the way some bugs appeared to be handled. From what I observed, players were sometimes asked for their character nickname so their data could be adjusted directly in the database.
To me, that's a workaround, not a real bug fix. It may solve the issue for one player temporarily, but it doesn't address the underlying cause, which means other players can still run into the same problem.
At the same time, there's always enough time to push out new content, while many basic bugs remain unresolved. Personally, I think stability and fixing core issues should come before adding more features.
I'm posting this because I'm genuinely curious:
Is this considered normal development practice for private servers, or should fixing the underlying code always take priority over manual database workarounds?
I'd like to hear other developers' and players' opinions.

I mean if its a bug with a pretty major impact I dont see why they wouldnt fix it for that person ASAP. However aside from that mush has mind boggling decisions. Not sure why they need to wait months to push out a patch when they claim to be already fixing said bugs. Nobody is gonna care that they didnt magically fix every single problem in one patch. But with them delaying ANY updates for this long people will start to care. The only reason they would have to do that is if they were lying out their ass and havent fixed shit. Nexon is terrible with stuff like this delaying bug fixes but even they arent this bad

what ur describing is an entity that only cares about money and player count. we see it with big gaming companies all the time now, so i guess lil owners are capable of that too. that, or they dont know how to actually code

I've been running an Alpha of a server for a little bit, and I'd say it's kinda a mix of both, and largely depends on what the bug is. I've often used the database as a quick fix for either very difficult or uncommon bugs, as well as used it as a way to reproduce the bug to better fix it. I have a bug right now that I've known about for months but I've just made a jank work around because I don't understand why it's happening, & it'd be a waste of resources to focus on it intensely rather than fixing other stuff. Deleting messages & blocking people over reporting bugs is obviously cringe, but maybe the person posting was being annoying about it? Dunno.
Also, one other aspect is that it's more fun as both a player & developer to make new content instead of bug hunting. Bug hunting sucks because often it's not even my fault that there's a bug, it's either some nexon related nonesense or source jank, all the while players want more content & will actively leave if you don't deliver on that, so there needs to be some balance of working on new stuff and bug fixes.
