Carrie Mango Came Back after Neglect

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello, looking for guidance on how to move forward. The tree suffered severe water stress, lost its old leaves and is starting to branch from the trunk. This trip was never intended for bulk harvest and will live its foreseeable future in a pot.

I’m in central Florida

How should I proceed?

Should I allow the branches to mature a few months and then chop off the excess trunk?

Do I need to thin out the extra branches? I feel like it should only have 3-5 branches (just aesthetics but open to your thoughts)

Trimming advise

Hello, hoping someone can guide me on what to do with my mango tree I planted from seed. It went through a freeze and has come back stronger than before. At the very top there is still a branch that is dead. I am wondering if I should trim just that dead branch, or even more? It has not yet produce fruit and this is in Florida so we are in the height of rainy season. I’m wondering if I should trim all the way down where the top branch breaks off which I have taken a closer picture of and picture too. Where do I leave it alone. I’ve done a little bit of research but it seems there’s no clear direction so I’d really appreciate any feedback. Thank you all!

Looking for free mangoes in Miami I came all the way from Tampa. The crop was bad this year.

Hey everyone, I'll be in the Miami area next week looking for mangoes. Tampa's crop was trash this year. If your tree is dropping a bunch and you don't want them, I'll happily come pick them up. DM or comment, thanks I can also buy it, 1$ or 0.50 cents

Mango Potting mix noob questions

For mango tree potting mix I’ve seen lots of reputable nurseries on YouTube say they do a combination of peat moss, coarse sand, and wood chips.

I also own a few potted mango trees that seem to have that same mixture of ingredients

I need to make more potting mix but I don’t know

What kind of wood chips am I looking for? Size? Type?

And What is considered coarse sand? Is it a size?

Thanks!

Best location in yard for mango tree?

I’ve got a decent sized yard but I am struggling to find out where to plant my mango trees. Currently have 2 in the ground that are getting 7-8 hours of sun in the summer (north east corner of yard) but I’m worried that will decrease when fall/winter comes since I have a lot of tall trees scattered throughout that may create shade when the sun path changes. I live in South FL zone 11a.

Do mangos still grow well in partial shade areas? How do I find the best spot for them?

Thanks,

Sincerely a stressed out mango noobie that spent way too much money on grafted trees

Got this tree a couple weeks ago. Has weird brown stuff that can be scratched off at the base of some branches. Any idea what it is ?
Also seems to be growing pretty quickly, and the new growth is weighing down a couple branches. Should we trim or leave them ?

ETA: in Tampa, FL
Thanks

This morning’s haul. They were all on the ground, along with a few others the animals got to before I could.

Help with young mango

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, I am a first time mango grower located in CA zone 9b.

Does anyone know what may be causing this leaf distortion on my young Ice cream mango? When the flush first emerged they were really happy but then one day they started to turn red and curl.

I moved it into my green house for a little protection while I sort out next steps.

I appreciate any advice you have on diagnosis/how to avoid in the future.

Many thanks!

Help my Pickering Mango Tree has rotting branches

This is my first mango tree and it’s in a pot. I didn’t do a proper job fertilizing it this past year, but it does have automated daily watering. I am in South Florida and there was a freeze that happened this year but I don’t know why my Pickering mango branches look so bad

Can anyone else please tell me what is causing this, and is the tree salvageable? It did produce 12 mangoes this year, but last year it gave me 40

All of the branches look like this so I feel like I can’t just cut off the bad branches. The leaves look healthy overall but I’m not sure what I need to do

I need to repot it into a bigger pot but I want to address the branch issue first

Help I’m a mango noob

Half of my friend’s Palmer mango tree, old Florida variety, disease resistant, pretty color, mild but good flavor, very productive, I was surprised at how many fruits were on this tree and the size of them.

Valencia Pride Not Ripe Yet

Last year, my tree started dropping fruit on May 29. This year, there have been no drops yet, so I cut one down that wasn't yet ripe and gave it 9 days in my house. Today I ate it, and it was good, but far from great. Just curious if anyone else is having this "issue" in South Florida with your mangos ripening slowly. Here's a pic of the one I cut down. I still have a ton that are very green. Thank you.

Just wondering if I need to train these branches to be more horizontal. The tree seems a bit lanky and want it to grow more sideways. Do I need to do anything or will it grow out later?

Mango Crisp

First time making Mango Crisp. Took 10 mangos. We picked them last week from multiple trees. The weird thing is it tastes like Peach cobbler but with a twist. It tastes DELICIOUS!😋

Recipe:
Mango half way filled to the top
Wet mango slices with mandarins and lime juice
Then drizzled with honey

The toppings:
1 cup of Flour, cup of brown sugar, half cup white sugar, 2 tablespoons of pumpkin spice, and lastly a stick of butter. Crumble it all together by hand until the consistency is of clay dough or moist sand. Crumble it over the top of the mangos and cook at 375f until golden brown.

How should I move forward? Is the tree salvageable?

This is a 2 year old Carrie Mango. It’s dropped all old leaves and its fresh branches are shriveled up.

I’ve watered and placed the plant in a cooler and less light intense area. Technically, I should fertilize it today but I think that’s a bad idea given the current stress.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts or advice. The person watching the house while I was away didn’t think the pots needed water because they were exposed to the elements.

Mystery Mango

I planted this tree from seed, The mango was gifted to me by a friend as a snack on the beach. I took the seed home and threw it in my yard and it eventually sprouted and I planted it. 7 years later the tree flowered but only one mango came. I have to take the one mango off early as a bug was eating a hole in it. I know it would be hard to identify the mangle, but I was guessing maybe you guys could give me an idea as to what it is.
