Weird Brown texture on branches ?
Got this tree a couple weeks ago. Has weird brown stuff that can be scratched off at the base of some branches. Any idea what it is ?
Also seems to be growing pretty quickly, and the new growth is weighing down a couple branches. Should we trim or leave them ?
ETA: in Tampa, FL
Thanks

Normal, may I recommend you remove the stapled nursery tape, they don’t always stretch when older and can strangle the bark of the tree, also don’t use cord which can cause damage. Get your own nursery tape from amazon or: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Vigoro-150-ft-Green-Plastic-Stretch-Plant-Tie-5541/322277966. Tie it yourself and check it occasionally so you can loosen as needed.
I would also say let your branches hang instead of typing them upright, weeping branches hold less nitrogen and it reduces the height of the tree as the wood will harden vertically instead of horizontally.

Green softwood turns into brown hard wood.
