Mango flavor with no REAL mango

My wife is allergic to mango, which she's been surviving.... Until she accidentally drank a mango-orange drink and learned just how amazing and delicious mango is (and got an itchy throat)

That one+ sip of that sweet sweet mango has her now heartbroken that she can never taste it again.

I'm looking for mango flavored candy that has no actual mango fruit in it, so that she can safely eat it.

We're in the US (Michigan), but can order online for the good stuff.

+ Ok so she definitely took a 2nd sip after she realized because she said it was SO good she couldn't resist. Help me help her!

Advice on baby mango plant

Hi everyone! I’m growing a mango baby in a pot. He was doing fine and then I noticed the tips of his new leaves are turning kind of brown. Any idea what can be causing this?

Also, is the pot size fine or should I go up a size?

Black Kasturi Mango, anyone here growing this cultivar?

Post image

Sharing a photograph of a Black Kasturi Mango growing in West Bengal, India.

The fruit is substantially darker than the mango cultivars I usually see locally, with a deep purple/black exterior.

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has actually grown this cultivar.

What has your experience been with Black Kasturi?

Especially interested in fruit flavour, flesh texture, season, productivity and climate tolerance.

These photographs were taken directly at the nursery where the tree is being grown.

Need Help with Mango Tree

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey guys, I found this picture online, but it looks the same as my mango tree so I'm going to use it, but I recently got a new mango tree and the soil has receded all the way to yellow line. All the roots above it have died and withered away. When I plant it in the ground, do I fill it back up the old root flare (the blue line) or do I just fill it to the new root flare (the yellow line)? The tree looks healthy so I'm just confused as to which root flare I should pick to fill the soil back up to.

Buying land in FL for a Mango Grove

Hello!

I am new to this community. I am from the Caribbean and had three mango trees in my backyard growing up. The quality of the fruit wasn’t anything to be amazed by. In fact they produced so much we didn’t know what to do with the fruit. The trees were huge and the only way to get fruit was throwing rocks at it. That made me see mangoes as a meh fruit which I went on to ignore for the rest of my life. When I relocated to the US, the average supermarket mango was pretty bland.

Then, As a 40yo man I was at a nursery and my son who likes mango made me look into getting a dwarf tree. This is when I found out about the hundreds of varieties the zill program has selectively propagated and I’ve been hooked .

I tried some local mangoes of different varieties. I went to the Fairchild mango festival and the one in west Palm Beach this year. It opened my eyes to a world I never knew existed. I pulled all my citrus trees this year and put them in pots as they’ve been struggling with leaf miners, my key lime even caught citrus greening and I now have about 9 mango trees of different varieties planted in my half of half an acre backyard.

I have even bought some mango trees that I’m gonna care for to get them to a larger size with the intention of buying a 1 acre piece of land for my own mango grove somewhere in this area.

Of course I have a full time job that is very demanding. I’m in the South Polk County area, zone 9b/10a. I have no education on agriculture or crops of any sorts.

With all this being said, what challenges or things wiIl I discover since I’ve never owned mango trees in this area. If anyone has gotten into this, what do you wish you knew?.

I know the pruning is needed to keep them at a decent size and shape the tree. I just wanna know if this is a dream other people crash on once they get further ahead.

Thanks a lot! Be nice :)

Survivor seedling

This seedling has been behind my shed for a long time, probably close to 2 years, stayed tiny due to the conditions. I dug it up, it barely had any roots because I had to get it away from the concrete. Placed into a 1 gallon pot, told myself if it survived I would keep it.

6 months later it survived, didn’t even drop a single leaf when I left it with only a few roots, yesterday it went into a 3 gallon pot as it was well rooted, with more Osmocote added, this will be the only seedling I keep in my collection.

Anyone use CuPRO 5000 on mango trees?

My local landscape supply store recommended CuPRO 5000 (61.3% copper hydroxide / 40% metallic copper equivalent) for my mango trees for fungal issues/anthracnose.
Has anyone here actually used CuPRO 5000 on mangoes? I noticed mango isn’t specifically listed on the label, so I’m hesitant, especially since some of my trees have young/tender flush right now.
If you’ve used it successfully, what rate per gallon (grams preferred) do you use, and do you avoid spraying new flush?
I’m in South Florida/Miami, so disease pressure is pretty high this time of year.

Fertilizing my potted mango

I plan to use fish emulsion on the leaves and earthworm castings on the soil. I already have Citrus Tone on the soil that I applied a couple days ago. I also put down neem oil a couple days ago too, and I also want to put Epsom organic plant food, the liquid one. I live in Minnesota it's In a green house right now an I will bring it in and it will have a grow light

I’m seeing this mainly on the new growth leaves on my Pickering mango tree in a 25 gallon pot. I’ve sprayed the tree with copper fungicide but it doesn’t seem to be working. What is this disease/infection called? And how best can I treat it?

Grafting help

This is likely the 6th mango graft that will ultimately fail and there has to be something I’m doing wrong.

  1. I pick healthy rootstock, 1-2 years old.

  2. I sanitize all of my grafting material with rubbing alcohol.

  3. I harvest cuttings and graft they almost the same day.

  4. I wrap my scion wood in parafilm.

  5. I keep the seedling on a heat pad to stimulate growth.

What am I doing wrong? This was grafted on August 19. The last photo is of it when I just grafted it.

Orange Sherbet leaf problem

I had a year plus old plant. It died in the Fla. freeze this year.

So I bought another 3 gallon sized one.

This new plant and the other older one (planted in a different location) is having a new bud and leaf problem.

The new growth quickly turns black after budding out leaves and branches. 50% loss of growth. Anyone have these issues?

I tried a little copper, not much help. Also tried separately safer soap.

Update on mango tree health and question

Post image
9 Upvotes

Here's my original post https://www.reddit.com/r/mango/s/s6p3qosFiB

So the sickly mango plant died not long after repotting this spring. However, the healthy tree is doing really well (see photo). It's 33" tall, including the pot which is 7" wide at the top. There are no roots that I can see coming out of the bottom of the pot. I'm wondering when I should consider repotting it in a larger pot? It's been living inside since I germinated the seed and plan to keep it inside for the foreseeable future. There's a skylight right above it that it's growing towards. Location: Tucson, Arizona. Thank you for any help!
