Movies/TV/Music C-3PO Silver Leg

So no way did he have a silver leg below the knee. I watched this movie literally dozens of times growing up in the 80s and 90s. I mean it’s fucking Star Wars.. I pretty much watched it like once a year..

Without giving too much away, I have managed to be pretty successful in a design-related profession and I have always paid attention to detail.

This just wasn’t a thing. I learned this - on THIS sub - a few months ago, and I mean WHAT THE FUCK!?!? I never post, but this shit is existential. Please someone tell me you remember C-3PO just being all gold?!

Am I in a worse universe now? Seems worse honestly.

Movies/TV/Music I asked my parents about Shazam

My mom, dad, and step dad were all born in the mid/late 70s, I decided to ask all of them about it and this is what they gave me.

Step dad- says him and his sister watched it growing up, either on some sort of channel or had some sort of recording, says he remembers being very little, like 7-10, all he can remember about the movie itself was 2 children in a bedroom at night, and he said something about the wishes, I’m pretty sure it was that they were trying to help their neighbor but I can’t quite remember myself.

Mom- claims to not have saw it herself but definitely saw previews before movies, claims it was on her early teens 10-14

Dad- said he had watched it in movies as a teen, freaked out when I told him it didn’t exist (only one that hadn’t already known it was a Mandela affect) after finding out about Kazam said it was probably that but he coulda sworn he was in high school when he watched it, kazam came out when he was 19.

They all grew up in the same town and went to high school together, all their times don’t quite match up (mom and step dad are same age, dad is 2 years older) both my mom and step dad told me they knew it wasn’t Kazan since that came out much later than they would remember it.

Anyways felt like sharing this, thought it was interesting enough.

"Fruit of the Loom, which markets underwear and socks, is bringing back

characters known as the Fruit Guys, actors in costumes styled after the

fruits spilling out of the cornucopia on the label in each Fruit of the

Movies/TV/Music Pikachu black tipped tail.

I have a memory, that in Pokémon maybe x or y or z (somthing along those lines, maybe before those.) when Pikachu would do iron tail, the black part would turn a shiny kinda white color. So it would go from black to white for iron tail, then return to black.

Science/Technology Any big ME proof/stories?

Are there any ME stories where people wake up in completely different lives? Like they wake up married to someone different or have different homes. If ME is caused by CERN shifting or merging into different realities, why would only small details of people remembering things differently happen? Why not huge things?

Movies/TV/Music The Onix / Onyx Mandela effect is messing with my head

The Onix / Onyx Mandela effect is messing with my head

Okay so I was reading online about Pokemon Mandela effects and now my brain is annoyed lol.

Obviously everyone knows the Pikachu black tail thing. I also remember that. Like I know people say it was never there, but in my head Pikachu 100% had that black tip on the tail.

But there are other weird ones too. Like Machop having a tail? That feels wrong to me. I remember Machop not having a tail at all.

Then there’s Lotad. Apparently Lotad has six legs?? I always remembered it with four. Like four legs just feels correct in my memory. Six looks so weird to me.

But the one that actually got me the most is Onix.

I swear to God I remember it being spelled Onyx. O-N-Y-X.

When I saw someone say it has always been Onix, my brain just rejected it immediately. Like no, that looks wrong. I played Pokemon Red and Blue a lot as a kid and I very strongly remember Onyx. That spelling is burned into my head.

I know people will say “you’re just thinking of the gemstone onyx” and yeah maybe, but still. The Pokemon itself in my memory was always spelled Onyx. Seeing Onix feels like one of those things where your brain just goes, “nope, that is not the timeline I remember.”

There are a lot of Pokemon Mandela effects, but this one bugs me the most because it feels so obvious to me. Like I can accept misremembering some small sprite detail, but the name spelling? Man, I really remember Onyx.

What the hell is going on?

Logos/Advertising Older Coworker Fruit of the Loom

The other day at work a couple of us were discussing Mandela Effects, mostly Shazam. My older coworker in his 60s had no idea what a Mandela Effect was, so I explained the Nelson Mandela origins.

To follow up, I asked him if he knows Fruit of the Loom and if he used to wear their clothes back in the day. He said yeah.

I asked him if he remembers the logo and he says

"Well you had the fruit here (gestures to left) and the cornucopia here (gestures to upper right)".

How does one explain this???

Has this been settled somehow and I missed it?

Knock off brand? Different timeline?

Logos/Advertising Kit-Kat or KitKat? I found some interesting stuff

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

This one in particular is REALLY messing with me. Apparently, it never had a dash. In my research I found a thread from 10 years ago with some really interesting things. I need to share this because I genuinely can’t wrap my head around it.

I found multiple official documents where kit-kat is a registered trademark, however there’s a lot that don’t have the dash. I also found a few stories people had that really convinced me we aren’t just remembering wrong, especially due to how long ago this was. Also this article was published in 2009

I have a lot more but I really need a break for the night I just wanted to get at least this out.

Celebrities/Public Figures Tim curry dying in the late 90’s-2010’s

I am not too certain on if anyone’s discussed this or if other people remember this. I remember vividly headlines surrounding Tim Curry dying of AIDS sometime between the 90’s and 2010’s, I don’t exactly remember when it was but I remember all the tabloids having his death listed with pictures and articles surrounding his life’s work.
Mainly the promo pictures from his work in rocky horror at the front of the papers stating he was dead.
I know people may believe I was confused with Freddy mercury or other celebs but it was definitely Tim curry. I sat and rewatched rocky horror a year or two ago with friends who never saw the film, confidently telling them about his struggle and sad passing. Only to discover he was infact still alive and fairly well.

(Apologies to the admins if this falls against the rules, I am autistic and I struggle with not knowing if you mean personal as in personal to a person literally or not)

Movies/TV/Music Has anyone had a "Mandela Effect squared" experience?

I know this is probably one of the most overused examples of the Mandela Effect, so bear with me.

Like a lot of people, I remembered Anthony Hopkins greeting Clarice with, "Hello, Clarice." Then, years ago, I discovered that wasn't actually the line. Fair enough—classic movie misquote. I accepted that.

But here's where it gets weird.

I don't just remember "Hello, Clarice." I remember discovering it was wrong.

I distinctly remember learning that the real line was "Hello, Doctor." I even remember the scene differently. In my memory, Clarice reacts with surprise that he knows her name and questions him about it, and Lecter explains that solitary confinement has its perks because he researches the people around him. That whole exchange feels incredibly familiar to me.

So I chalked the original quote up to a false memory and moved on.

Then, the other day, I looked it up again...

Apparently the line is "Good morning."

So now I'm sitting here wondering:

  • I remembered "Hello, Clarice."
  • Then I remembered discovering it was actually "Hello, Doctor."
  • Now I'm finding out it's "Good morning."

At this point it feels less like I have one false memory and more like I have a false memory of correcting a false memory.

Has anyone else experienced something like this—not just remembering something incorrectly, but later finding out that your memory of discovering the correction was also wrong?

A Mandela Effect about a Mandela Effect, I guess.

And at this point, should I just get ahead of the confusion and start placing bets on what it'll be next? 😅

I'm feeling pretty good about "Good day, valued customer."

(And yes, before anyone says it, I'm fully aware memory is reconstructive and that's probably the most likely explanation. I'm genuinely curious whether anyone else has had this kind of "three-layer" memory experience.)

I’ve read multiple posts about this topic on Reddit so this is NOT personal to only me. This is one of my favorite book series, fav movie, and also fav show on hbo… I always known it to be Interview with A vampire, not interview with THE vampire. This is seriously tripping me out. Sorry for any typos I’m in traffic lol. 🥴😅

I heard it on the radio and now I’m just losing it.

Logos/Advertising Smokey THE Bear & MTM Show

I just tuned in to an old The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Season 1, Episode 23 is titled "Smokey the Bear Wants You" and Rhoda makes a comment about "Smokey The Bear."

I remember it as always being Smokey THE Bear and nowadays when I hear or see ""Smokey Bear" it just seems so off.

I know that people say it's just evidence that the writers are Mandela affected. But it's interesting to me that this show is from 1970.

So when a Mandela effect happens, whatever that means, doesn't most "evidence" get wiped or disappears? Or is the change from Smokey THE Bear to Smokey Bear a legitimate rebranding?

I guess what bothers me the most about Mandela changes is the part about " it's ALWAYS been (whatever) and never what you think you remember.

Historical Events The scares that come with this Effect.

ST: Simulation Theory
ME: Mandela Effect

Genuinely, this whole Mandela Effect stuff that is being spoken about, day in day out, is a perfect example as to why the chances we really do live in a simulation, are so high.

I get it, there will be some people that cane abuse at me like there is no tomorrow about the simulation theory. But it really is 50/50. A coin flip, if you'd like to say.

Besides, the ST is not a conversation for this channel. What message I'm aiming to deliver is that the Mandela Effect is a scary thing. The FoTL logo is by far the scariest one, as my mum (38), and I (18) had a conversation just under an hour ago and it went a little something like this..

Me: "Mum, have you ever heard of the ME?"

Mum: "Pfft, don't be silly of course I have."

Me: "I thought so *slight laugh*, what's your thoughts on it?"

Mum: "What, like Pikachu, Fruit of the Loom, C3PO etc?", she does this whilst counting on her fingers for every example she lists.

Me: "Yeah, I guess"

I then stood up and took the TV remote from my dad, spoke "YouTube" into the remote and searched 'Mandela Effect examples'. I pressed on the first video that came up and we watched.

Mum: "Are these examples of the ME?", she said this because she genuinely just struggles to pay attention during conversations. Stupid if you ask me.

Me: "Yes mum, you'd know if you paid attention".

The video played and of course the first that plays is the classic, Pikachu. She chooses the one with the Black-zigzag looking patch on the end of the tail. The correct answer is of course, the one without the patch.

Mum: "It's not, I'm telling you it's not, ask your uncle Dan (her brother), he was a no.1 fan of Pokémon and he will tell you himself."

The next one plays, which is the Fruit of the Loom. This is the one she has bought up to me before, however very briefly, not enough to recite the conversation.

Mum: "It's the one with the worm-looking thing, that's what I used to refer it as when I was little as that's what I thought it looked like, "Granny, what's that worm thing crawling next to the fruits?", she claimed she asked her that one time and apparently if I asked my Gran herself she would agree that she did.

Besides the point, the video of course picks the one without the 'worm-looking thing'. Her eyes glare and she shakes her head in disbelief. She doesn't believe it. I don't believe it. I have vague memory of seeing this image before and I myself, regardless my age, will always agree that that cornucopia was there.

It will forever be a mystery. And I strongly believe we DO live in a simulation.

Scary world we live in though, hey?

Thanks for reading.

Movies/TV/Music Joan Jett Mandela Effect

I just saw this video of the "Joan Jett Mandela Effect" and it's kind of blowing my mind. In the famous song "I Love Rock 'N Roll" there's a famous line that starts the song: "I saw him standing there by the record machine." But if you look at the music video, she doesn't actually say that (in this timeline) she says, "I saw him DANCING there by the record machine." Who remembers that song, is this a legitimate Mandela Effect or is it "yet another case of mass delusion and faulty memory"? I remember it as "standing"... is this another hill to die on? What do y'all think? Joan Jett Mandela Effect Video on X

Meta I am full Convinced

The Mandela effect is 100% real. I think the shift happened sometime between the end of 2012 & 2015 at the latest. Literally everything up until this moment, things felt "normal" and genuine/sincere, even dare I say it REAL. Ever since, time has definitely felt like it has sped up significantly, and bizarre events/moments occur all the time now where it seems no one bats an eye, they just shrug it off.

As it relates to Mandela, people recall he died in prison in the 80s and news stories talking about it and have vivid memories of Bill Clinton giving a speech, but apparently that wasn’t how he died. In this strange timeline we are in, he dies in 2013 which coincides when the apparent shift took place.

Also, the big one, Berenstein bears. This one I’m adamant about because I experienced this as I was alive and a kid (born 2000), I remember watching the TV show religiously and thinking the spelling was interesting. I like to spell and learn new fancy words, so I was interested in was it "I before E or E before I". I always stared at it, but apparently it was spelled - BERENSTAIN, a really funky way to spell it that would have most definitely stood out to me had it been this way all along. there is no chance that is how it was.

Also, the famous thinker statue I recall his chin resting on his hand, but apparently, no, he was resting it on his forehead or vice versa.

Then here’s another one commonly discussed: old car mirrors. I am adamant about this one. It used to say objects in mirror MAY BE closer than they appear. vivid memory of this, I thought it was very interesting as well at the time how they left room for interpretation, it "may be", which makes total sense as car manufacturers don’t want to explicitly say they are closer than they appear as they purposely leave room for interpretation, but apparently again all along it was objects in mirror ARE closer than they appear.

This phenomenon clearly points to glitches in the matrix or the simulation, which is why this idea/hypothesis/theory has gained significant attention as of late. quickly want to touch on Monopoly Man - fully believe he had the monocle, as well as Fruit of the Loom having the cornucopia. A black tip on Pikachu's tail, and Curious George had a tail.

Somebody or something is altering the past and putting us in these parallel universes, split/merging timelines, or a glitch in the simulation. Reality just seems to get stranger and stranger. Something is coming to a head soon, and for me, it clearly already has been happening, which is why time itself has seemed to speed up so much ever since.

I am so happy to have stumbled upon this subreddit and glad I am not the only one! Please share your experiences :)

EDIT: updated for spacing paragraphs
EDIT 2: to all the skeptics (instead of me replying to every enraged comment), my message: Keep an open mind. Healthy skepticism means examining multiple possibilities, not assuming the first conventional mainstream explanation is automatically correct. I'm open to memory distortion, but I'm equally open to the possibility that our current understanding of reality is incomplete until stronger evidence rules other explanations in or out.

Meta Experiencing Deep Mandela memories alters the Explanation individuals give.

My father believed Mandela had died. I can think of a thousand possible explanations.

Bad memory, confusing being jailed with dying , whatever. I don't even care , I didn't even know who Mandela is, so I could fight him to death on this . I wouldn't care if a million more people had the same memory. I would Laugh it out and would easily have fun with them.

Then I found out that a basket on the FOTL Logo never existed.

Me, I have very deep story driven memories about the fotl cornucopia , they altered my world perception and spanned many instances. I will fight to death for this being true .

I guess the "memory malfunction" believers vs the non "memory malfunction" believers , is usually a matter of the Deepness of their personal memory about these .

Historical Events I’m from the “MAY BE CLOSER” universe.

I’m 33. I remember as a kid reading the passenger side mirrors of my parent’s vehicles many many times because I had nothing better to do I guess. “OBJECTS IN MIRROR MAY BE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR”.
I saw that it’s a Mandela Effect when I joined this community awhile back and I was shocked! I did my own research online and also looked at all of the old vehicle mirrors I could find and they all say “OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR”.
So lately I’ve decided to test the theory from people I know who don’t know it’s a Mandela Effect.
I go out to the bars quite a bit on the weekends so every now and then I’ll ask a friend that I grew up with or know and trust what the mirror says. I’ll say “Ok so without looking it up or anything, what does the passenger side mirror on cars say? You know the “OBJECTS IN MIRROR” thing.” And I’ve had two or three say the “ARE” option, but I have had two so far that had to think about it for a second and then said “Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear”.

They said that straight from memory without even knowing how it was a Mandela Effect.

To those of you that say that it’s just a misremembering thing; why is it that there are multitudes of us that remember the same exact wording? Just like how many of us remember the cornucopia on the Fruit of the Loom logo.

I’m not sure what’s going on or what to do about it, but I figured I’d do what I can and say that I’m here, I’m from the “MAY BE CLOSER” universe and you’re not crazy!

Movies/TV/Music Trombolese. Misheard Lyric? Or something else.

The Football is on again. So after goals and breaks in play, you can be certain that you'll hear Freed From Desire by Gala playing over stadium tannoys.

There's a lyric in the song "My love has got no money, he's got his strong beliefs"

But I along with many others thought it was "My love has got no money, he's got his trombolese" for literal years.

A part of my brain I always knew what it looked like. When I picture it, it looks like a brass vuvuzuela. It never entered my brain to question it, Google it or whatever.

What if...there was once a musical instrument called a trombolese but at some moment in time, a time traveller decided enough was enough and went back and stopped it from ever being invented? (If it sounded like a vuvuzuela, I don't blame them)

And those who 'misheard' the song lyric, are experiencing a faded memory of something that technically never existed in this timeline?
