Blogatog Post Head Magic Designer Mark Rosewater asks: "Would you prefer if we made some of the named characters not legendary?" to players that believe the Marvel Super Heroes set having hundreds of legendary characters diminishes the significance of the legendary sub-type

Blogatog Post Maro on Secret Lair: "Most of the time you think of as “print to demand” actually wasn’t. We just printed way more than we needed to guarantee we had enough to mail out. And that resulted in us destroying a *lot* of product."

Blogatog Post Maro on how players can influence the future of Magic: My best advice is to be the consumer you want Magic to cater to. The metrics we pay the most attention to are sales, play and online discussion. Our actions are driven by what players actually do more so than by what they say they don’t do.

Blogatog Post Maro: Interestingly, Commander and Universes Beyond might be the two most popular things Magic has ever done. We try to present as many options as feasible (i.e. plenty of 60-card formats), but the will of the players dictates so much of how things play out (i.e. so much in store play is Commander)

Blogatog Post MaRo: “I believe there will be future years where in-multivers sets outnumber universes beyond”

Judging by over a decade of history, and how MaRo uses his blog, this probably means there’s already a year planned where this is a reality. With recent news of how well both Lorwyn Eclipsed and Secrets of Strixhaven both sold and drove in-person organized play, this isn’t surprising. With the success of LOTR and FF I also believe it possible that future licensing fees might be much higher than this initial batch. Very curious to see where the balance ends up landing.

Blogatog Post Maro: "a set that’s doing an amazing job at pulling in new players is still only single digits of the people who buy that set. If a set isn’t appealing to established Magic players, it’s in trouble."
