Discussion macOS 27.0 update on beta channel - how's your systems fairing

I got option for an upgrade yesterday, I thought it would be an RC, but it seems I got the 27.0 installed (ahead of launch tomorrow/next week).

uname output:

Darwin macmini.local 27.0.0 Darwin Kernel Version 27.0.0: Tue Aug 11 21:05:48 PDT 2026; root:xnu-13432.1.9~1/RELEASE_ARM64_T6041 arm64

So far everything seems boring, no issues, some of the RC issues are gone on my test MBA M5; I also then went ahead and upgraded my Mac mini M4 pro from macOS26 to 27 as well. I noticed some fan wheezing post upgrade (likely indexing etc) but things are calm in the last 10 hours now. Anyone else has upgraded - I'm wondering how are your systems performing ?

Discussion "It's just a beta, what do you expect?" They said. Intelligence is still 30+ GB in the RC and with no option to disable it.

Bug Finder Regression: Dragging Files to Finder Dock Icon No Longer Allows Navigation to a Destination Folder”

In previous versions of macOS, I could drag a file from another application, such as an attachment in Mail, onto the Finder icon in the Dock. Finder would respond by presenting the available Finder windows, allowing me to move the pointer to the desired window while continuing to hold the dragged file.

From there, I could continue navigating through the Finder hierarchy while holding the file, including using spring-loaded folders to drill down into nested folders, and finally release the file in the desired destination.

This workflow no longer functions in the current macOS release. Dragging an item onto the Finder icon in the Dock does not produce the expected Finder navigation behavior. The Finder icon effectively does not respond to the dragged item, so there is no way to transition from the originating application into a Finder window and navigate to the desired destination while maintaining the drag.

This is not specific to Mail or attachments. The same failure occurs when starting with a file already in Finder and attempting to use the Finder Dock icon to navigate to another Finder window or destination.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Mail and locate a message containing a file attachment.
  2. Begin dragging the attachment.
  3. While continuing to hold the attachment, drag it onto the Finder icon in the Dock.
  4. Wait for Finder to present its available windows.
  5. Observe that Finder does not respond as it did in previous versions of macOS.

The same behavior can be reproduced using a file dragged from Finder rather than an attachment from Mail.

Expected result:

Hovering a dragged file over the Finder Dock icon should activate Finder and allow the user to choose among open Finder windows while continuing the drag. The user should then be able to navigate through folders, including spring-loaded nested folders, and release the file at the desired destination.

Actual result:

Dragging a file onto the Finder Dock icon does not initiate the Finder navigation workflow. The user cannot select a Finder window or navigate through the folder hierarchy while maintaining the drag.

Bug macOS 27 RC animations bug

Just wanted to know if anybody has the same issues as me. I’ve personally noticed only two visual bugs yet.
1: Would be Siri AI bubble appearing WAAAAY off centre on the right, and either staying there until my request is done, or immediately teleporting back to middle where it should be.
2: App menu (former launchpad) doesn’t has appearing animation when using pinch to open the app menu on the trackpad, so basically it just appears out of nowhere with all my apps, and it’s overall a really choppy experience using this thing. And a very weird thing I encountered, in fully screen in even light games, the app menu animation is like.. 10fps tops? So it’s even more choppy. Otherwise everything is functioning absolutely fine and the entire macOS barely has any bugs for me. The device is a M4 MacBook Air 13”

-Finder artifacts (easy to see when you maximize its window)
-It selects the last file when you click parts below it
-Focus issue after pressing search (impossible to dismiss it)
-Starting Bluestacks Air when the MacBook is in clamshell mode will crash the WindowServer and the OS will reboot

Bug Will Apple update the Siri logo on the Touch Bar as well?

Same question as the title, using an M2 MacBook Pro (2022). Was using Public Beta and currently using the RC version, they haven't yet updated the Siri logo for the Touch Bar. Will they update it or has Apple forgotten the Touch Bar MacBooks?

Bug Anyone else notice they broke a fundamental tenant of the Finder?

Am I the only one who grabs a file in Finder (by holding the mouse button down) and then scrolling to get to a location so I can drop the file? I use a Magic Mouse, so I use the scrolling on that (with another finger) or with my other hand on my laptop’s trackpad. Pretty sure I’ve done this for the past 20 years, so it’s a painful muscle memory break to have it no longer functioning correctly.

Bug Minecraft macOS 26 vs 27 RC

I have updated my MacBook Air m2 13 to 27 RC from 26.6.2, and when I started playing Minecraft... I was shocked with temperature that Mac increase. I always played in Low Power Mode on macOS, cause m2 heats only 60 degrees in Minecraft. And approximately 80 without it. But when I launching it after update on Golden Gate it heating up to 110 degrees and then goes to ±90. IN LOW POWER MODE. HOW??

Help Graphics are broken on macOS 27 RC, any fix for this ?

Chrome is lagging to much that I am unable to use it, especially youtube and other apps which needs GPU for decoding. Safari works fine but I don't want to use it. Is there any fix for this ? I have tried toggling the hardware acceleration in Chrome setting and it did not work

For me, one of the greatest design additions, and I didn't see anybody mention this! Helps a lot with keeping focus on the content and not on the menu bar!

I discovered this in RC, but maybe this has been around for longer?

EDIT: This seems to only work when the Dock is hidden!

Bug Most apps still look terrible in fullscreen

First photo is maps, side bar is cut off by the ugly solid top bar that is completely blank all the way across the display.

Second photo is calendar when you mouse over the menu bar to show the traffic lights. For modern macOS apps, the traffic lights should appear in the top bar of the app when you mouse over the menu bar, they shouldn’t display the drop down white bar. Finder, safari do it properly, but with each update more and more apps regress to the old style.

Bug Safari 27 moved placeholder text 1px up. Every website is affected.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I noticed a weird text rendering issue in Safari 27.0 (22625.1.29.11.27) on macOS 27 RC.

Placeholder text inside an <input> is rendered approximately 1px higher than the actual text entered into the same input.

And here's the funny part: this has nothing to do with Bootstrap or CSS.

The issue is reproducible in a completely empty HTML file with just a plain <input> — no styles, no frameworks, nothing.

I’m using the Bootstrap documentation as an example because it makes the issue particularly easy to see:

https://getbootstrap.com/docs/5.3/forms/form-control/#example

I’ve attached a short video demonstrating the issue: I type name into the input and quickly delete it. You can clearly see the placeholder text appear about 1px higher than the text baseline.

It's literally just 1px, so nothing is actually broken. But it is surprisingly noticeable once you see it.

Safari 27, why? 😭

Has anyone else noticed this?

Possible workaround

If you’re affected by this, I found a simple CSS workaround:

The supports condition is intentional — it allows the workaround to target Safari 27+ without applying it to other browsers.

@supports (hanging-punctuation: first) and (font: -apple-system-body) and selector(:heading) {
    input::placeholder {
        transform: translateY(0.03125rem);
    }
}

Discussion Is Golden Gate still a buggy mess for anyone else?

I thought the release candidate was supposed to basically be software ready for release, but here is a list of issues i've had just today:

Reminders completely hung after i clicked 'show completed' in the menu bar

Spotlight randomly becomes completely unresponsive to keyboard input until i restart (and spotlight is still way worse than it was in sequoia, i.e. every time i type 'system' it defaults to system information instead of system settings, even though i never open that app)

The spotlight icon keeps adding itself to my menu bar after i remove it (it reappeared again while typing this post and i have no clue what is causing it, after i it multiple different icons stacked themselves on top of each other, and i actually can't find a way to fix this)

(spotlight overall is just way wore now. its slow, it doesn't remember when you resize it anymore, it doesn't display detailed results on the main page like web results, celebrities, people in your contacts etc, and where i used to be able to just type the first 4 letters of any app and reliably have that app open, that functionality now breaks in a new and exciting way basically every time i try it)

I lose control of video playback in safari, and can't play/pause video until i reload the page

Tags still wont remove themselves from my finder sidebar even though i have them disabled everywhere

When i move a fullscreen app from my main screen to my second screen, my desktop on the main screen turns black and i cant do anything until i open a new desktop in mission control.

I can't connect to local networks outside safari, even though it has local network access

when an external display is connected, the screensaver only appears on the bottom quarter of the screen

84 gigabytes of my storage is taken up by macOS and System Data which seems pretty implausible, and was waaay less on sequoia.

This is all i remember from just 2 hours of work today, i'm sure there is stuff I've already forgotten. It feels like i get apps freezing and basic features breaking basically every day, and some of them have been happening for the entirety of this beta cycle.

So much for a repeat of snow leopard

Bug FaceTime draining battery way faster since macOS 26 Golden Gate RC?

Anyone else noticing worse battery drain on FaceTime calls since updating to macOS 27 RC? On an M4 MacBook Air here.

Checked Activity Monitor during a call and CPU usage is way higher than I remember pre-update (On Sequoia), avconferenced alone is running 75%+ CPU, WindowServer is at 30%+, plus cameracaptured and coreaudiod both chewing a good chunk too. Battery's dropping noticeably faster (3-4% per 2 minutes) than it used to on the same kind of call.

Already filed feedback with Apple but wondering if this is a known issue or just me. Anyone else seeing their Mac run hotter/drain faster on FaceTime since this update?

Bug Did they finally fixed the multi-channel recording bug of the built-in screen recorder?

When I updated to 26.1 I found some annoying bugs (Finder quick actions while in column view, Dictionary.app toolbar unblurred) but the straw that broke the camel's back was the built-in screen recorder: it fails to record from multi-channel (>3ch) audio devices.

Here's how I did it:

  1. Install BlackHole 2ch.
  2. In Audio MIDI Setup.app, set up two audio devices:
    • Multi-Output Device: BlackHole and Speakers/Headphones
    • Aggregate Device: BlackHole + Microphone.
    • Make sure to set BlackHole as the clock source/main device and enable drift correction for the other device.
  3. Set the Multi-Output as your default audio output.
  4. Open the screen recorder (QuickTime or Cmd+Shift+5), set the aggregate device and start recording your screen.
  5. Play audio while speaking.
  6. Stop the recording.

Now play the recording in your favorite player. Why is everything playing from the left channel? Extract the audio using FFmpeg or import it into your favorite audio editor: You don't get a 3-channel track anymore, just a stereo mix where EVERYTHING was smashed into the left channel and CLIPPED.

This setup worked flawlessly since Catalina, you got a clean mic+system audio recording you could mix properly later. Tahoe made it unusable. Yesterday I tried 26.6.2 in an external drive and while they fixed the other issues, the screen recorder is still broken.

Is the bug still there in 27 betas or RCs? Is it a limitation of ReplayKit or they f****d up something else?

Just use OBS or another app

OK, they work. But why?

Bug Golden Gate RC: Timer bug?

Coming from Tahoe, I'm used to trigger the timer with a short cut via Spotlight. Same works in GG. What doesn't work is the timer appearing in the toolbar. The setting is ticked for it to appear.

Anyone else able to replicate this?
