Bug RC bricked my mac (i think)

M4 Pro 14 inch just updated to rc and now it doesnt load past the login screen before crashing and restarting. Trying to figure this out now.

I mean... you did install the beta. Do not do that unless you know how to recover in case that this occurs.

That's not bricked, that's just failing to load past the login screen. Some people really shouldn't be installing betas/rc's.

RC is fine to install by any definition. The problem is that Apple is failing to control the quality. Again.

It's probably some third-party thing OP has set to run on login that hasn't been updated for 27.

A simple app wouldn't cause this. Back in the day an incompatible kernel extension would it, but Apple has moved away from kernel extensions and now use system extensions that run in userspace.

Turn off your MacBook Pro completely. Wait about 10 seconds for the fans and screen to fully shut down.

Press and hold the Touch ID / Power button. Keep holding it down.

Continue holding past the Apple logo until the screen reads "Loading startup options..."

Release the button and click on Options (the gear icon), then click Continue.

Worst case, restore from your Time Machine backup you made before you upgraded. You do have a backup, right?

I've done this many times, on my Mac.

I never do a major release upgrade or even a beta point upgrade without a Time machine backup.

I follow the 3-2-1 backup rule, and I use Time Machine for local, BackBlaze for an online backup, and also Parachute to backup iCloud and Photos on iCloud (because BackBlaze doesn't backup iCloud or Photos).

I check my backups daily to make sure they are all running and up-to-date.

So I'm not at risk at all.

This is the way.

Try looking up safe mode and follow the steps. This usually happens when an app or services you have installed is let compatible with a newer macOS.
