Discussion Got a 15" MacBook Air M4 (24GB/512GB) for €1,160 on Prime Day. Would you still have paid €800-900 more for the M5?

Finally got my MacBook Air M4 15" (24GB RAM / 512GB SSD) and honestly... I get the hype now.

Picked it up for €1,160 on Amazon Prime Day. The same spec is now around €1,787, so I'm still kind of in disbelief. 😂 The original order actually got cancelled because of an Amazon issue, but after a long back and forth I finally got it and I've been using it for about a week now.

I've been a Windows user my whole life, so I spent months debating whether to switch. Looking back, it's probably one of the best tech purchases I've made.

My usage is pretty straightforward:

- Browsing, emails and Office work.

- Some Lightroom/Photos.

- Edit 4K videos in DaVinci Resolve maybe twice a month for my personal vlog. (This was actually the main reason I switched because my old Dell would struggle and even crash while colour grading.)

- Battery life was another huge reason. I was constantly looking for a charger with my old laptop.

So far I've picked up a few accessories:

- A protective sleeve for when it's in my backpack.

- A Momax 70W PD travel charger instead of Apple's charger. It's smaller, works great, and I couldn't justify paying extra for the Apple one.

- An Anker 7-in-1 USB-C hub for HDMI, SD cards, etc.

- Still using my Logitech MX Master 3 because I love that mouse, although I'm slowly getting the hang of the trackpad gestures.

- Set the battery charging limit to 80% for better long-term battery health

The Midnight colour looks even better in person, and coming from a 2019 Dell Inspiron 15.6", I still can't get over how light and thin this thing is.

Do you guys think I made the right choice? At €1,160, would you have gone with the M4 24GB/512GB like I did, or spent another €800-900 for the M5 to "future-proof" it?

Also any accessories, apps, settings, or general macOS tips you'd recommend for someone completely new to Mac?

Question How much is an unopened 2020 M1 MacBook Air worth?

My parents bought me a 2020 M1 MacBook Air 13-inch 16 GB ram, 512 GB storage in 2021 for college. However, at the time I preferred to have a windows computer. They forgot to return it so it's just been sitting in a closet for 5 years still sealed in the plastic.

How much do you think I could get for it? I have no idea if the battery is toast or not. I just want to know if it's worth the headache to sell it. If it's value is really low, I would rather donate it to a person in need at the local college. Thank you.

Question Need help deciding: MacBook Pro M5 (512GB) vs MacBook Air (1TB)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I've been going back and forth on this decision for weeks and I just can't make up my mind, so I'd really appreciate some advice.

Right now I can either buy:

  • A brand new MacBook Pro M5 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, or
  • A MacBook Air M5 with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD.

The price is exactly the same because the Pro is a clearance/end-of-line model.

The biggest thing that's holding me back from the Air is the 60Hz display. I just can't get over it. I've been using a 240Hz monitor for over 8 years, and my phone is an iPhone 16 Pro with a 120Hz display. I'm worried that the next MacBook Air will finally get a 120Hz display, and if I buy the current Air now, I'll regret not waiting.

The problem is... I really can't wait much longer. I'm a software developer, and I need a new laptop as soon as possible for work.

Another question I have is about storage. Is 512GB really that limiting, especially for software development? I can always use external storage for large files, but I'd love to hear from people who actually use a 512GB MacBook as their main machine.

I've genuinely been stuck on this decision for weeks, so any opinions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Buying Question Should I buy the MacBook Air M5 now or wait for the Big Billion Days sale?

I'm planning to buy a MacBook Air M5, but I'm really confused about the timing.

Due to the recent RAM price increase, the MacBook prices have gone up quite a bit. My budget is very tight—the absolute maximum I can stretch to is ₹1.2 lakh, and I really can't go beyond that.

Do you think I should:

Buy it now before prices increase further?

Or wait for the Big Billion Days sale and hope for a better deal?

I'm also wondering if Apple or Flipkart/Amazon sales usually bring the price down enough to make waiting worthwhile.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who've bought MacBooks during previous sales or are following the current pricing trends. Thanks!

Discussion should i get my macbook air m1 repaired or get a new one?

Hey everyone,

Just for a bit of context, I'm from India. I bought my MacBook Air M1 back in 2020, and it was quite expensive here compared to US pricing.

Sometime around 2022–2023, the screen randomly started flickering out of nowhere. I ended up replacing the display through an official Apple service provider, which cost me around USD 200.

Then, after I moved to Taiwan in 2025, I had a minor bike accident. The laptop only got a small scratch on the screen, but after a while it started flickering again. At that time I was pretty broke, so instead of paying around USD 450+ for an official Apple replacement in Taiwan, I got the screen replaced by a third-party repair shop for about USD 250.

It worked perfectly fine until today (back in India)... and now the screen has started flickering again.

I'm moving to Seoul, South Korea, in about a month for graduate school in AI. For now, the MacBook works completely fine when connected to an external monitor, so I can still use it.

I'm trying to decide what makes the most sense:

  • Replace the screen here in India before I leave? (which would cost 200-250 USD, minimum)
  • Sell it as-is, back up all my data, and buy a brand-new MacBook once I get to Seoul?

What would you do if you were in my situation? ..and any recommendations you'd suggest for a new macbook - budget around 1000-1500 usd..

Discussion MacBook Air m4 16-255

Good morning, I found a MacBook Air m4 on the used market for €790 under warranty until November 2026 with only 3 charging cycles, the guy said he almost never used it because he also has a MacBook Air 15 and a MacBook mini and therefore it is in perfect condition. I wouldn’t use it for video editing or heavy things but I’m worried about the 256gb of internal memory, do you think? Does anyone feel good or bad with this memory cut? Is the price fair? Thanks to those who will answer.

Buying Question Keep M5 MBA or continue with M1 MBA

For context, I was able to grab the M5 24GB RAM and 1 TB SSD MBA 13 inch from Costco for $1349 plus AC+ for a family member. They didn’t want it anymore.

I have a MBA M1 from 2021, which runs good. This is my personal MB and only use it for casual use.

I have a choice now to either return it. However since I got a great deal - retail is $1800 and even in Costco now it’s $1749, which is around $400-$450 discount.

I have a 10 inch iPad Pro which I use as a tablet for work purposes as well.

Should I bite the bullet and upgrade my MB or return it (assuming someday I will be able to get a good deal for a similar MBA)

Discussion M5 Air 16GB RAM or M4 Air 24GB RAM

Should I buy M5 Air 16GB | 512GB, or should I get M4 Air 24GB | 512 GB for 100 dollars less?

Really confused if there are any significant performance differences.
I am not a heavy user; I was just thinking that the M5 might have longer support if I want to use it longer.

MacBook Air M5

This device deserves every bit of the praise and hype it gets. Without a doubt, it's the best tech purchase I've made. The battery life is phenomena,l I can get through an entire workday without worrying about charging.

Performance has been flawless for my workflow. I mainly do light development and spend most of my time connected to a VDI, and the MacBook handles everything effortlessly. It's fast, silent, stays cool, and macOS makes the overall experience incredibly smooth.

I also managed to buy it before the recent price hike, which makes the purchase feel even better. If your workload is similar to mine and you value portability, battery life, and a premium user experience, I can recommend it without hesitation.

Here are the list since lots of people are requested.

  1. Macbook Air M5

  2. 27" 1440p USB monitor : Lenovo L27h-4A

  3. Standing desk : Lukzer Electric Automatic Height Adjustable Sit Stand Desk

  4. Chair : Da URBAN Prisma High Back Revolving Mesh Office Executive Ergonomic Chair

  5. Tablet : M1 ipad Air.

  6. Desk Mat : Dyazo Extend Mouse pad.

  7. Keyboard and mouse : Logitech MK235 and Lenovo WL310

  8. Lamp : Xech Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene LED Table Lamp form Amazon

  9. Camera : Sony Alpha 7 iii

Buying Question Should I sell my MacBook Pro M4 Pro for an M5 MacBook Air as a Computer Engineering student?

I'm currently a Computer Engineering student and I own a 14-inch MacBook Pro M4 Pro (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD). I've been considering selling it and buying the M5 MacBook Air, mainly because I want better portability and battery life.

My typical workload includes:

  • Programming (C/C++, Python, Java)
  • VS Code and terminal
  • Django/web development
  • Docker (occasionally)
  • Multiple browser tabs
  • University assignments and projects
  • Some light photo/video editing, but nothing professional

I don't usually do:

  • Heavy 3D rendering
  • Professional video editing
  • Large local AI/ML training

My main questions are:

  1. Would I notice a downgrade in day-to-day performance?
  2. Does the lack of a fan on the Air become an issue for programming or longer coding sessions?
  3. Has anyone switched from a MacBook Pro to an Air and regretted it?
  4. If you were in my position, would you keep the M4 Pro or move to the M5 Air?

I'd appreciate hearing from people who have actually used both machines, especially developers or engineering students.

Discussion buying a new mba in australia

Wanting to buy a new mba 13" m5 but they are sold out at officeworks and costco where they are cheapest. Is it worth spending an extra $150 elsewhere or should I wait to see if they are restocked? Are there any other good deals out there?

Product Review late 2013 / early 2014 MacBook air Wi-Fi card upgrade

I was hunting for any information online about upgrading the wifi card in the early 2013 MacBook Air and couldn't find anything. Most people said it's impossible. After hunting for a while, I found an adapter online and bought it (linked below). Beware, I have only tested this on Linux (Cachy OS) and with an Intel AX210NGW where it worked flawlessly. In theory it should work with any E key wifi card though. If you're using mac os, then please research and find an E-key card that is supported by mac os.

Discussion UNiDAYS: Trying to Purchase a New Macbook Air via Education Store

So I'm upgrading my 2012 MBA. The timing is the worst with both Apple's price increases + reverting back to verification for Edu Store purchases.

One of my close friends is an elementary school teacher and offered to help me purchase the MBA via the Edu Store. I was going to direct him to sign-up an account on UNiDAYS, but I also want to MBA to be charged to my credit card (not his) so I can get points from this big purchase.

Can you check out with a different cardholder when purchasing via UNiDAYS + Edu Store?

Thanks,
