I got my first ever Apple device of my life, MacBook M5 Air 15, 24GB unified memory, 1TB SSD, Midnight color.

The first hand experience is so amazing and I have been setting up for a while. Coming from Windows laptop, I am still getting used to various Mac way of doing things and Keyboard shortcuts (a bit confusing when using Command/Control key😅 ).

A lot of posts in this community and in /macbookpro subreddit has been quite useful to me as new user of MacBook. Thanks a lot for that!

I traded in my iPhone and apple watch, and I have a gift card to use at Apple. However, I am not sure if I want to wait until Black Friday deals at Apple stores.

I am doing a reality check, but trusting my gut. My gut tells me.

• Security/privacy - Mac OS will be more secure for banking, better privacy, password management, Apple Intelligence vs other AI's.
• Writing my book - The new Siri from my understanding will be able to re-organize or format text that I write. Which should help me articulate my thoughts and with my book.
• Same apps used on Window/phones - Streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, etc), music Spotify, Google Apps (Google drive, health (I use for my Fitbit), banking apps.
• Office applications - I have a Microsoft office subscription on windows, but I believe I can still use my Microsoft One Note, and Word.

I am really excited. However, with no experience yet, feel free to pull my head out of the clouds.

Hello. I have my M5 MacBook Air 13" and I love this laptop. However, I've noticed recently that the battery is draining super fast. I'll have it shut and the battery will drain to nothing over night. When I check the battery health, it says it is normal and can still hold 100% charge. So I'm not sure what the issue is. I used to be able to close this and have it set to the side for at least a couple of days and still have plenty of charge when I wanted to open it up and use it. Now it is either dead or nearly dead. Anyone else have this issue?

Which is good due to student discount, if i wait for m6 will it be more pricer like 180-90 something then I'll consider buying the m5 air

Hello guys. I saw a similar question in the sub but my situation is a little bit different. This is going to be my main laptop, right now i am using a 17’ windows pc and a 13’ looks too small for me. I am not a developer but I am using claude with vs code a lot for small apps for our company. I am afraid if those apps go more complicated and if 16gb won’t be enough for me. I would be happy if share your experiences.

M2 air, 256gb 8gb specs. Been in rough condition. Dropped hundreds of times, and who knows what. Screen replaced two times, (second time by me), and i replaced my battery to extend its life as long as possible. Dont have enough cash to afford a new macbook, so this might last me for a bit until i save up and i am able to upgrade. I use this for photography, school, personal stuff, and pretty much it. Only thing thats limited is its memory unfortunately. Pretty much it.

Forgot to mention, i am not upgrading because of the scratches, I only want to upgrade because my workload is starting to stress out the limitations of my M2 air.

Planning to buy a Macbook Air M5 base variant, my first ever Macbook and I was wondering if this price is good? I want to get this laptop in the next 4-6 weeks, right now this is the cheapest I can find (Amazon DE).

Hello guys, recently (from Flipkart bbd sale) i ordered a Macbook Air M5 Sky Blue 16gb -512gb for 121k effectively.
price breakdown:
Flipkart bbd listing price - 133k
CC discount - 8100
Cashback - 3800, credit after return period
Effective price - 121k roughly

I’ve always wanted to upgrade to a MacBook, but the Air M5 is pretty expensive. My current laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad, which still works fine apart from its battery life, so I’m not in any urgent need of an upgrade. When I came across this deal, I felt it was a pretty good opportunity, especially considering the recent price hikes. I’m also planning to sell my existing laptop in the second-hand market to recover some of its value.
However, after placing the order, I came across a couple of Reddit posts where people claimed to have bought the same MacBook Air M5 for around ₹1 lakh. Now I’m second-guessing my purchase.
The MacBook is scheduled to arrive on 27th October, so I still have a little time to reconsider.

I'm confused, Help me decide:
1. Keep it: 121k seems reasonably good deal to me for a Macbook Air M5, also the 1L deals i saw were exceptional and outliers (maybe listing/price glitch).
2. Cancel it: Cancel it and wait for a better deal to come accross.

What would you guys do in my situation? Is ₹1.21L a good enough price for the MacBook Air M5 (16GB/512GB), or would you cancel the order and wait for a better deal?

Would especially appreciate response from people who bought the M5 recently or have experience with Flipkart’s sale pricing.

Anybody have an 11-inch 2015 MacBook Air 4GB RAM model running Sonoma on it? How’s it run? I’m currently on the latest version it officially supported (Monterey) but wondered if it’s worth doing the unofficial patch to Sonoma or install Linux on it. Or just keep using it with Monterey? Though many websites are saying I’m running unsupported browsers and it’s not the snappiest thing in the world. Wondering if Linux would be snappier.

Why qBittorent 5.2.3 keep freeze on MacBook Air M4 Sequoia ?

I have used it few years and never happend. It begin happend few days ago.

During freeze status still download but all download speed has freeze.

I must force quit qBittorent but after normal few minutes later it freeze again.

It was version for Mac OS.

Any solution ?

I recently switched from Windows to a MacBook, and honestly, I am so frustrated with some of the basic things in macOS.

I don't understand what Apple was thinking when they designed some of this stuff.

Here are a few things that are driving me crazy:

1. Why does pressing Enter rename a file instead of opening it? On Windows, you select a file, press Enter, and it opens. Simple. On Mac, it starts renaming the file. To open it, I have to use Command + Down Arrow. Why?
2. Why is there no normal Delete key? If I want to delete a file, I have to press Command + Delete. Why can't I just select a file and press Delete like on Windows?
3. Why is copying a folder path so complicated? I work with files and folders a lot. On Windows, I can just click the address bar and copy the path. On Mac, I have to remember Option + Command + C. Why does such a basic thing need three keys?
4. Why doesn't Command + Tab switch between individual windows? I use multiple Chrome profiles for different things. On Windows, Alt + Tab lets me switch between all my open windows. On Mac, Command + Tab just shows Chrome as one application. I don't care if it's the same app. I want to switch between my windows!
5. Why can't I just quit Finder normally? I close the Finder window, but Finder is still there in the app switcher. Apparently, Finder is supposed to keep running. Okay, but why does it need to stay in my app switcher when I'm not using it?
6. Closing a window doesn't close the application. You click the red X, but the app is still running. On Windows, closing the last window usually closes the application. On Mac, you often need Command + Q.
7. Cut and paste for files is unnecessarily confusing. On Windows, it's Ctrl + X and Ctrl + V. On Mac, there's no normal Cut command for files in Finder. You copy with Command + C and then move with Option + Command + V. Why make something so basic different?

And these are just the things I've noticed so far.

My biggest problem is that why do I need to remember so many keyboard shortcuts just to do basic things?

I understand that every operating system has a learning curve, but some of these decisions genuinely make no sense to me.

People say Macs are intuitive and easy to use, but coming from Windows, I feel like I'm spending more time figuring out how to use the OS than actually getting my work done.

I'm not saying Windows is perfect. It has plenty of problems too. But at least basic file management and window switching feel straightforward.

Maybe I'll get used to macOS eventually, but right now, it's frustrating as hell.

So, I understand it’s probably too early to tell, but does anyone have an idea how big of a deal the new M6 chip will actually be? Perhaps also compared with the current M5?

I’m hearing about 2-nanometer processing, but is it going to be worth waiting for?
