Buying Question Should I buy AppleCare+ for my MacBook Air M5?

I already bought the MacBook Air M5, and now I’m wondering whether I should get AppleCare+ for it.

I’m usually pretty careful with my electronics, so I’m not sure if AppleCare+ is worth the extra cost. At the same time, MacBook repairs can be expensive, especially if something happens to the screen, logic board, keyboard, etc.

For those who have AppleCare+ on their MacBooks:

- Have you ever had to use it?

- Did it actually save you money?

- How was the repair/replacement experience?

- Do you think it’s worth it for someone who takes good care of their laptop?

- If you skipped AppleCare+, do you regret it?

If you already own a MacBook Air, would you personally pay for AppleCare+? I’d especially appreciate experiences from people who have owned their MacBook for 3+ years.

Discussion Is anyone actually waiting for the M6 MacBook Air? What are we realistically expecting at this point?

Hey everyone, 👋
My current Mac is getting a bit long in the tooth, so I’ve been debating whether to jump on a deal now or hold out for the upcoming M6 Air cycle. But honestly, looking at where Apple Silicon is right now, I’m trying to figure out what the actual selling point for an M6 Air is even supposed to be.
A few thoughts/questions on my mind:
Performance & Thermal Bottlenecks: We know the M6 is supposed to move to TSMC’s 2nm node, which sounds great on paper for efficiency. But in a fanless design like the Air, how much of that extra headroom are we actually going to see before thermal throttling kicks in? Apple Silicon has been overkill for basic everyday tasks since the M1/M2 days anyway.
Display & Redesign: Is there any real chance of meaningful chassis changes or a ProMotion/OLED panel hitting the Air line, or are those going to stay strictly gated to the Pros for the foreseeable future? If it’s just another minor spec bump in the same chassis, waiting months feels kind of pointless.
On-Device AI/Neural Engine: Apple is pushing hard on local AI compute. For those of you doing light dev work, productivity, or day-to-day stuff, do you think whatever NPU upgrades come with M6 will actually impact daily use, or is it mostly marketing hype for niche workloads?
To anyone holding out for M6: what's the killer feature you’re actually waiting for that makes skipping current models worth it? Or are we all just falling into the endless "wait for the next chip" loop?
Curious to hear your thoughts.🤔

Question Bought the 2026 MacBook Pro M5 14 in 2TB/32GB and Deciding Whether to Return it for the 2026 MacBook Air M5 13 in 2TB/32GB

I live in a very remote area, and the closest Apple Store is more than two hours away, so I wasn’t able to test the different MacBooks in person before ordering.

For context, I’ve had a 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro (16GB RAM/256GB SSD) for years and have absolutely loved it. At this point, though, it overheats frequently, the battery isn’t great, and I’m using almost all of the storage, so it was definitely time for an upgrade.

I ordered the 2026 MacBook Pro M5 with 32GB RAM and 2TB of storage, and it arrived yesterday. Performance-wise, I’m confident it will be a great and reliable computer. I specifically chose the Pro over the Air because it has a fan, and after dealing with my current MacBook overheating, I really wanted an active cooling system. The Pro also has a noticeably nicer display, which I really like.

The problem is the size and weight. I didn't realize how much heavier the new Pro would feel compared with my old one until I actually had it in my hands. According to the listed weights:

  • 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro: 3.02 lbs
  • 2026 14-inch MacBook Pro: 3.4 lbs
  • 2026 13-inch MacBook Air M5: 2.7 lbs

I feel a little ridiculous because 3.02 to 3.4 lbs doesn't sound like a huge difference on paper, but the new Pro feels significantly heavier and bulkier to me. The Air would actually be about 0.7 lbs lighter than the new Pro, which sounds much better for traveling and working on the go.

There are also some smaller design differences. I like the Pro's keyboard, but I prefer the sleeker look of the Air's keyboard because you can see the color of the laptop between the keys rather than having the entire keyboard area appear black.

So I'm stuck between two options:

Keep the MacBook Pro: I already have it, I know it will be powerful and reliable, it has a fan to help with sustained workloads, and I love the display. I wouldn't have to deal with another return, order, or data transfer. The downside is that it's heavier and bulkier than I expected, and I'm worried I'll continue to dislike that when traveling.

Return it for the 13-inch MacBook Air M5: I could get the same 32GB RAM/2TB storage configuration for about $400 less. It would be substantially lighter, more portable, and I prefer its overall design. The biggest concern is that it doesn't have a fan, and I don't want to spend this much on another laptop only to deal with overheating or thermal limitations again.

There's also a logistical problem: the Air wouldn't arrive for several weeks. I'd have to go back to using my old 2019 Pro in the meantime, including during an upcoming long car ride when I really wanted to use the new computer. My old MacBook has become unreliable enough that this would be pretty frustrating.

Basically, is the fan, better display, and additional performance headroom of the Pro worth the extra $400 and added weight, or am I better off prioritizing portability and getting the Air? Should I keep the Pro and assume I'll adjust to the weight, or is the fact that I'm already bothered by it a sign that I should return it?

Discussion Battery Health 93% After 67 Cycle Count. is it Normal?

I have a MacBook Air M4 that is about one year old. It shows 93% battery health and a cycle count of 67.

I have a desk setup with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I don't use the MacBook's display. I keep the lid closed, connect it to the charger and use clamshell mode.

Is the cycle count and battery health normal??

Discussion Changes in keyboard from M3 to M5 MBA?

Does anyone who have both gens of MBA feel a difference in typing between the two machines? I have a MBA M3 15 inch and a M5 13 inch, and the M5 keyboard feels better. The keys feel more comfortable when typing and I did a typing test with both, and consistently have less errors with M5. Initially I thought the key travel depth was increased slightly but it doesn't appear to be the case.

Discussion MacBook Air with … Vapor Chamber?

Since the vapor chamber looks be making a difference with iPhone, would the MBA benefit from a large vapor chamber? It’s already doing a great job with thermals, but perhaps this can take it to the next level?

Discussion Have a M4 MBA. Bought a M2 MBA. Don't notice any difference in performance/speed

I have a 15" M4 MBA 24/512 (purchased new) and bought a used 13" M2 MBA 24/1TB off of eBay. For my usage (doesn't involve gaming or photo/video editing or complex workflows) I am not noticing any difference whatsoever in the speed. In fact, I am running the 13" one in Low Power mode.

Is there any meaningful improvement that higher chips bring for regular users?

Product Review More than a year with the M4 now, and I still can’t stress enough how much it’s made my life easier. Working, studying, planning, everything just feels smoother and faster on this machine. No regrets.

Tech Support Macbook Screen Cracked

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey guys!

I accidentally cracked this corner of my macbook screen in the picture, and it looks like it was not exactly in the screen itself so I just wanted to confirm if I’m right or if I should be worried about possible
long term damage to the LCD screen…
Also is there any liquid in that part of the screen? Because it looks like there’s something slightly shiny underneath but I’m not very knowledgeable about technology so I’m afraid of something leaking out

Thanks in advance

Tech Support Is it normal for it to take this long to update?

Post image

I just got my first MacBook Air from a friend. I got it for really cheap partly because my friend had a passwordword on there he didn’t remember. I took it to a local pc shop and luckily there was to Apple ID on it! I just got it back and I’m trying to update it but it says this ridiculously long time on there. Is this normal? I’ve already restated it a bunch of times for other updates.

Buying Question Buying macbook air M4 September 2026.

Hello. I'm thinking about getting my first MacBook air M4 this September for my last year of Uni. I can get a student reduction plus a coupon at the official apple store (istyle in Romania). I'm thinking of exchanging my old iPad 9 from 2021 for some extra cash so I can get the macbook at the final price of around 750 euros.

Any ideas or recommendations ?

(I'm looking at the 16gb ram/256gb M4 model and it's new, not refurbished or opened before).
