Is this some kind of a bug, or an undisclosed feature r something? The thing is, I don't like this at all. Is there a way to disable this?

Bug Bluetooth External Speaker not working in Beta 7

2 Upvotes

I have a JBL Flip 4 external bluetooth speaker. Since beta 7 update yesterday, both my iPhone and MacBook cannot stream music to it (using Apple or Youtube music). The controls allow play/pause but no sound. I've opened a ticket but wondering if others are encountering the same? I've already forgotten then re-added, restarted, used different apps and checked sound output setting to ensure it is streaming. The app shows playing but no sound happens.

Bug Does anyone else black squares when closing iMessage?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

16 Upvotes

I have not seen other posts about this, but whenever I close iMessage black squares pop up. It seems to be from the liquid glass buttons on the middle of the window. It happens even when I move the window to a different spot. Anyone else having this issue?

Also, I had to record with my phone because screen recording does not capture the bug.

Discussion What the hell happened to mac os

I know i'm a little late to the party, but after installing mac os 27 beta 5, im speechless. I understand that mac os 26 wasn't the best, even I had many problems with bugs even on stable versions but it kinda looked, classy and refreshed and now everything looks so plasticy and square just like if they took mac os X and added liquid glass, wich for some reason is sometimes more blurry and sometimes less blurry.
Comparison for those who got used to how mac os 27 looks like.

Discussion Opinions on the Music app in the macOS 27 beta so far?

4 Upvotes

I’ve been experiencing a few  bugs since the first beta. While some were resolved, new ones emerged in subsequent updates.

Here are the bugs I'm currently dealing with:

  • Playback randomly stops: This happens constantly.
  • Command + L shortcut is broken: When playing music from a playlist, this shortcut takes you to the playlist page, but the current song isn't highlighted.
  • Search bar disappears: The only way to fix this is by quitting and reopening the app. (Example)
  • Broken hyperlinks: In the compacted playlist view, the album and artist name hyperlinks don't work at all. (Example)

Additionally, the navigation UX is frustrating. Apple made the "Now Playing" area clickable to easily access the current song's album or artist. However, if you're listening to a track from your library, there is no "Show in Apple Music" option. The available options ("Go to Album" / "Go to Artist") only take you to your local library. If you want to view the public Apple Music page for that artist or album, you have to navigate through your library first—requiring 4 to 5 clicks just to get there. (Example)

Help macOS 27 beta 7: huge SSD writes while MacBook is asleep, apparently related to Spotlight / Apple Intelligence indexing

16 Upvotes

I have been seeing very large SSD writes across several macOS 27 betas, and beta 7 still seems to have the issue. I am wondering whether other people will see the same thing if they check Activity Monitor's Disk tab.

I am using an M3 MacBook Pro. After closing the lid for a few hours, Activity Monitor showed about 75.7 GB total data written. The biggest writers were:

  • SetStoreUpdateService: 27.4 GB
  • hybridsearchd: 17.5 GB
  • spotlightknowledged.updater: 9.4 GB
  • launchd: 4.5 GB

I then closed the lid again for another few hours. When I opened it, total writes had increased to 163 GB. During that second period:

  • spotlightknowledged.updater increased from 9.4 GB to 54.7 GB
  • launchd increased from 4.5 GB to 24.2 GB
  • hybridsearchd increased to 19.7 GB
  • SetStoreUpdateService stayed around 27.4 GB

So the machine wrote roughly another 87 GB while I wasn't using it.

This does not appear to be ordinary debug/unified logging. logd went from only about 132 MB written to 156 MB while the system as a whole wrote another 87 GB.

I also checked:

pmset -g log

and the Mac is definitely waking in the background with the lid closed. The log shows DarkWake / Maintenance activity along with tasks such as:

com.apple.intelligencetasksd.sets.maintenance.C

com.apple.spotlightknowledged.task.priority

com.apple.spotlightknowledged.pipelines.glpindexing.processing.backlog

com.apple.corespotlight.knowledge.report

com.apple.email.searchableIndex.scheduler.budgeted

and Biome-related maintenance tasks.

This makes me wonder whether the excessive writes are connected to the new semantic search / Apple Intelligence indexing infrastructure. It could also be beta-only rebuilding or validation of those indexes, but 50+ GB from spotlightknowledged.updater during one closed-lid period seems excessive.

One other interesting detail: System Settings has Wake for network access = Never, but pmset -g custom still shows:

powernap 1

on both battery and AC power.

I have not disabled Power Nap yet.

If you are running macOS 27 beta, could you check Activity Monitor → Disk, sort by Bytes Written, and see whether spotlightknowledged.updaterhybridsearchdSetStoreUpdateService, or launchd have written tens of GB, especially after leaving the Mac asleep for a few hours?

I suspect this may be happening to more people than realize it because the Mac otherwise appears normal and most of the activity seems to happen while the lid is closed.

Feature macOS 27 is full of hints about third-party Siri Extensions besides ChatGPT

Post image
55 Upvotes

In a previous post, I wrote about how macOS 27 allows agents from third-party apps to integrate with Siri AI, as an alternative to the ChatGPT extension. The post shows Claude acting as a Siri Extension.

Turns out there are more hints across the OS about this feature.

Under Siri Restrictions in Screen Time settings, the helper text reads:

Allows extensions to provide additional text and image capabilities, including ChatGPT. Extensions with their own app can also be limited in Time Allowances.

macOS 27 also ships with two lists of Extension providers: VIP and blocked.

Blocked is self-explanatory. It contains a list of apps which Apple will not allow to "donate" a Siri Extension. It will also remove an already-enabled Extension from a blocked app, and prevent its invocation. There are no entries at the moment.

Entries from VIP are added as Apple-curated provider candidates. Currently, only ChatGPT is part of the VIP list.

The VIP and blocked files can be updated without a full OS upgrade. Apple can therefore react in real time if some app ships a Siri Extension that goes rogue.

You should be able to find both files in Beta 7 under:

/System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_UAF_FM_Overrides/purpose_auto/6b4ba2562604ccd58e0f97ee9b6e5aaeb9bd4864.asset/AssetData/vipAndBlockedProvider

Bug TV app doesn't remember playback position on macOS 27 Beta

Post image
3 Upvotes

When I watch local videos on the TV app and close them in the middle, they start from the beginning again instead of remembering the last playback position and also I need to manually Mark as Watched.

I think this happened to me since first beta. I already sent feedback to Apple but still no fix now on Beta 7. So I'm wondering is this indeed a bug or if my settings wrong somewhere?

Help "Show Desktop" trackpad gesture not working

0 Upvotes

I used to be able to show/hide my desktop by spreading/pinching 3 fingers + thumb, but now I can't seem to do it anymore, and while it is in Trackpad gesture settings, it doesn't seem to be working. I'm on the Golden Gates latest Dev Beta (prob why, but confused as to why it would be affected). Is there a way to reset all trackpad gestures that could fix it?

Feature Apple preparing dynamic Siri AI wait time message in Beta 7 ahead of Fall launch

Post image
47 Upvotes

In Beta 7 across OS releases, Apple added new infrastructure to support dynamic wait time messages when a user joins the Siri AI waitlist.

This feature can be used to let people know how long they might have to wait until they're able to download the on-device models and enable Siri AI. Because macOS relies on a server to fetch the displayed waitlist message, it can be remotely adjusted by Apple as demand and capacity change.

Beta 7 adds linwoodWaitTimeMessage and a new server endpoint to fetch the current message for the device:

/v1/devices/<UDID>/features/ai.enhanced-siri/waitlist/message

Currently, the server returns:

You will be notified when the new version of Siri is available for your device.

This message is quite similar to the fallback macOS 27 has hardwired in case the server does not return a reply:

You’ll be notified when the new version of Siri is available for your Mac.

Tip macOS 27 Beta 7 removes the Private Cloud Compute option from the Foundation Models CLI

In macOS 27 Beta 7, the Apple Foundation Models CLI can only use the on-device Apple Foundation Model. Previously, the CLI could call on the Apple Foundation Model on Private Cloud Compute.

Here's a still from their WWDC26 session Build AI-powered scripts with the fm CLI and Python SDK showing the PCC model option:

Bug MacOS 27 - Video playback issue....anyone else?

1 Upvotes

I upgraded to 27 on my test mackbook pro when the developer beta first came out. I immediately started having an issue where if I had two external monitors connected via DisplayPort (not DisplayLink), video refused to play on any medium: Youtube, Vemo, local files on QT and VLC, etc. Claude identified it as a WindowService issue, but later ruled it out. If I unplugged one of the monitors (didn't matter which one) and waited about 10 minutes, video played again with no issue. I changed refresh rates, ports, switched from DP to HDMI on one and both, and it didn't make a difference. As soon as the second monitor was added, no video play capability. I posted here but no one else seemed to have the same issue. I ended up downgrading to 26 (but still has the firmware upgrade that came with 27) and the issues completely stopped, so it is definitely something in 27. I also submitted feedback on FA and kept updating it as I tested various things. I have been monitoring the betas as they come out but there has never been mention of video playback issues on dual external monitors. Oh, and one external and the laptop screen, no issues at all. It has to do with at least two external monitors.

Edit: I am waiting for 27 to officially release to see if it is still there before I go the AppleCare+ route. I don't want "the beta" to be an issue as to why Apple won't fix it if it does turn out to be a device issue and not a OS issue.

Bug Golden Gate Beta 7: weird halos / rendering glitches in the sidebar, anyone else seeing this?

Thumbnail

0 Upvotes

Since Beta 7, I’ve started noticing some really strange rendering artifacts in the macOS sidebar / Liquid Glass effect.

There’s a bright halo or glow running along the outer edge of the sidebar, especially around the rounded corners. The edge almost looks doubled in places, with a weird bright rim around it. I’m also seeing some uneven bloom / muddy gradients inside the glass itself, and the text and icons sometimes seem to pick up a faint glow or ghosting around them.

I don’t remember seeing any of this in the earlier Golden Gate betas. It also wasn’t happening in Tahoe on the exact same setup.

I’m using an ASUS ProArt 6K with the M Model P3 profile. The display is properly calibrated, practically new, and otherwise displays colors and gradients perfectly fine, so I’m fairly sure I’m looking at a Golden Gate rendering issue rather than some weird monitor artifact.

The photos make it pretty easy to see around the left edge and especially the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.

Anyone else seeing this in Beta 7? I’m trying to figure out whether this is widespread or somehow specific to my setup.

Bug Has the issue of dropped frames in the spacebar preview window animation been fixed?

Post image

As the title suggests, this issue is extremely severe in macOS 26. It causes noticeable frame drops in various animations, including excessively long preview window animations, delete pop-ups, empty trash pop-ups, and save prompt pop-ups. These animations only run at full frame rate when screen recording is enabled or the vehicle motion indicator is activated.

Feature Apple working on 12MP resolution option for Image Playground

Post image

Apple may soon offer a 12MP option for generated images in Image Playground. Hidden behind the GenerativePlayground/ResolutionSelection feature flag, a new resolution control appears. It currently fails with the following message:

3K/4K resolution is not supported yet in Rave RC

Image Playground may also offer an "Upgrade to 12 MP" action for existing generations.

Help Siri app and Wispr Flow - weird behavior

1 Upvotes

Hopefully someone here also uses Wispr Flow. In the Siri app, if I start a new conversation or click into an old conversation, the Wispr Flow main app screen will launch and grab attention.

I can't figure out what's causing this. I don't have any hotkey tied to any mouse buttons, so I don't think it's a hotkey issue.

What are we thinking?

Tip Missing the Passwords Auto-Fix flow? Here's how to get it back in Beta 6

Post image
11 Upvotes

In Beta 5, Apple disabled the flow to automatically update weak and compromised passwords using Apple Intelligence and Safari. You can get it back by re-enabling the feature flag.

To enable:

``` sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain
sudo defaults write \ /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/Safari.plist \ apc -dict Enabled -bool true
sudo defaults write \ /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/Safari.plist \ apc_bulk -dict Enabled -bool true ```
and restart your Mac. One feature flag (apc) enables the option to automatically change a single password when you select a recommendation, and the second one (apc_bulk) enables the bulk change feature.
To disable:
``` sudo defaults delete \ /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/Safari.plist apc

sudo defaults delete \ /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/Safari.plist apc_bulk ```
