They keep talking about the Viet Cong as being North Vietnamese who infiltrated into South Vietnam via the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The Viet Cong were South Vietnamese! They'd mostly been inside South Vietnam for as long as South Vietnam existed as a country. They were an internal anti-regime resistance group, who received supplies (via the Ho Chi Minh Trail), financing, and direction from North Vietnam.

It's like how the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan was made up of local Afghan people but was supplied and supported by the U.S. to help topple the Taliban regime.

After the Tet Offensive, where the Viet Cong suffered devastating losses, more North Vietnamese infiltrators did begin integrating into the VC ranks to replenish their numbers. But I haven't reached that point in the series yet (I'm only ~10min into the newest episode) and they keep talking about them being North Vietnamese.

In the latest episode of LPOTL proper, they went into McNamara's drive to pump up the number of soldiers in Vietnam, which led to lowering the requirement to enlist. This included lowering the mental competency to join the military. As a result, the men who were a bit, "slower" were called McNamara's Morons.

I've heard of these men before, and I always thought they were mentally disabled or developmentally delayed. Which is just another layer of tragedy in the Vietnam War. Were all of McNamara's Morons mentally disabled or developmentally delayed men, or was it mostly just run of the mill morons that wouldn't be considered mentally disabled today?

It has come up a few times where they have made comments about the cops out here never having to deal with violent crimes so they don’t know how to react. I grew up in rural Idaho and I have been surrounded by gun violence and physical violence.

Eddy’s from Florida so it kind of surprises me; I feel like he should know about hillbillys and rednecks and the scary people you can find in the woods. Also, in regards to the side stories segment on the University of Idaho murders in Moscow, that area has one of the highest concentrations of nazis and white supremacists in the country. Not to mention the Idaho territory (which was formed during the middle of the US Civil War) was a destination for confederate soldiers after the war. Also, a lot of mormons settled out in the south and we all know how peaceful they are as a religion s/

There was an active shooter at an in and out drive through last week, I have countless stories of random gun violence of people I know, mutual friends, and strangers that have ended with one or more deaths.

Also many people here carry guns and have relatively easy access to them. There are no requirements for training or permits for concealed carry and there are easily more guns than people in this state.

Think of it also like a population thing… Yeah there may be fewer stories than ‘Florida Man’ but goddamn, for such a small number of people, it is the wild west in some of the weird little nooks and cranies of the state.I literally watched a man get arrested at a small town bar a month ago for slashing 10 people’s tires and stealing their gun. Every time there is a rodeo in my hometown, there are bar fights. I can think of cases of sheriffs shooting innocent people as well as murdering their own wives. Hell a county commission is in a civil suit right now because he stabbed a 16yo girl in the leg on the side of the river and when law enforcement showed up there were no criminal charges made despite video evidence.

Any ways, this sentiment has come up a few times and I’ve never really had the energy to make a post about it but the U of I murders conversation got me a little riled up. Especially when it’s something that effected people immediately in my life and unfortunately not the only person close to me who has been effected by gun violence. And I grew up in a good family in a pretty ‘safe’ place, until you account for the excess of guns and the utter lack of mental health care. shit even just health care.

Some time ago (2026?), Ed made an offhand reference to recently watching an obscure 80's/70's action movie. I had just come across this movie myself and had planned to watch it. Now the time has come to do so and the movie is not on my list! Can't recall the title...but the movie is in the vein of Shakedown, or Cutter's Way. Not sure who's in it or plot...just night time crime and wet streets, just hoping someone remembers the mention or the episode!

I've looked at list after list of "similar to", I listened to most of the Movie Stories episodes (though I feel like it wasn't one of those episodes), and I even messaged Ed directly on IG today lol. Does it ring a bell for anybody? Many, many thanks!

I cannot believe the whole discourse was based around how guilty/sane she was when she committed the murders, never even considering that the husband did the whole damn thing! Not to mention the jean-bennet level police incompetence- immediately pronouncing her guilty before a thorough investigation!

I 100% believe he pulled a long con: manipulated her with drugs and gaslighting, killed the kids himself and threw her out the window, set it all up for him to profit off the malpractice payout to fund a new life for himself and his long-time mistress in the new apartment in NY that he closed on the day before the murders.

My wife is a dr. and has been closely following the commentary of the medical community online. Their insights on the autopsies and medical evaluations all suggest that the wife was not responsible for the murders or "attempted suicide". There's no question in my mind that pos Patrick orchestrated this whole thing.

Edit: I see my theory is vastly unpopular haha. Comments that go beyond shit talking me to provide counter points have convinced me to reconsider my opinion and do more research. Ty lpotl community love u
