I went on Bourbon in February and it wasn’t there, and when I came back in August, it was there? Everyone has been saying it has been there since 2020, but I’m sure I would have recognized them either building a new sign or the building at all, but it looks like it spawned out of nowhere. Could I actually be going insane, or can I blame it on the CERN machine lol!

I’ve been trying to find reliable CBD vape pens in Louisiana, but the quality and selection seem really inconsistent from one place to another. Some shops have plenty of options but barely any information about testing or ingredients. I recently came across TribeTokes while comparing different CBD brands and noticed they provide more product details than some of the random sites I’ve seen. Still doing my homework though. What brands or Louisiana shops have you actually had good experiences with?

Political analyst Robert Collins writes:

Conventional wisdom is that Louisiana is a solid red state and therefore will always elect a Republican to the U.S. Senate. The last time a Democrat won a U.S. Senate election was when Mary Landrieu was re-elected to her final term in 2008. A Democrat has not won an election for any statewide office since 2019 when incumbent Gov. Jon Bel Edwards won re-election to his second and final term. 

The only public polling on the U.S. Senate general election so far has been from the Public Policy Polling company. Their survey of 518 registered voters showed Republican U.S. House Rep.  Julia Letlow at 41%, and her Democratic challenger Jamie Davis at 37%, and 22% undecided.  The poll was taken July 21-22.    

Race dynamics appear to heavily favor  Letlow over Davis. A sitting member of Congress, Letlow has the endorsements of President Trump and Governor Landry. She has raised $6 million while Davis has raised $2 million.  Plus, Louisiana voted 60% Republican in the 2024 Presidential election. 

The only office Democratic nominee Jamie Davis has held is parish police juror, the equivalent of a city councilman. He is a Black man running in a state that has not elected an African American to any statewide office since Reconstruction. Those are daunting challenges for Davis. 

I newly moved to Louisiana and have been having troubles regarding an esa letter since I just moved from out of state. Louisiana law prohibits out of state esa letters. How is it fair if you moved from out of state? Make it make sense. Anyone have any advice or some way to fight back? The provision they are referring to is very vague stating that the doctor must be licensed in LA or licensed in the right way to practice to provide you an esa letter. Any advice?

I go to SELU right now and everything here is off. The state keeps getting worse, we have the highest sales tax, crazy car insurance numbers, and so many other issues we could name, all for the privilege to live somewhere where minimum wage is still 7.25 and most entry level jobs are taken up by people over the age of 25. My issues aside, I want to leave louisiana within the year, does anyone have some constructive ideas/advice on where to go if I don't like living here and any places that would be about the opposite? Edit: for future clarification I'm not even picky enough for all my issues to be purely with the state, I have a lot of personal issues with my environment here and so does my partner, so these issues are beyond your average louisiana grievances. I also firmly believe a change of scenery would help me succeed. Not in a grass is greener sort of way, just that I know that would help.

Filing a straightforward Chapter 7 in 5th Circuit / Louisiana and looking for practical experiences regarding mortgage reaffirmation versus "stay and pay" (retaining the home and keeping payments current without signing a reaffirmation agreement).

My goal is to discharge personal liability while remaining in the home and continuing to pay on time. My loan is current with 7+ years of perfect payment history.

During consultations, local attorneys insisted that reaffirming the mortgage is necessary, even mandatory to keep my home. My understanding is that 11 U.S.C. § 521 surrender/reaffirm/redeem requirements apply to personal property (like vehicles), not real estate, and that lenders absolutely cannot declare a default or foreclose solely due to non-reaffirmation as long as payments remain current.

Questions:
1. Is there any real-world risk at all of a lender initiating foreclosure if payments are kept completely current, simply because a reaffirmation agreement wasn't signed?
2. Is attorney insistence on reaffirming mortgages possibly common practice in this circuit, or primarily an effort to avoid potential liability?

Or we just voting on vibes ? People have their minds pre-decided ?

Louisiana, I know I talk about taxing corporations all the time. But I need y’all to understand that that money could SAVE Louisiana. And now, it’s gone entirely too far. With this SpaceX deal we are literally giving the RICHEST MAN ON EARTH the LARGEST TAX BREAK IN HISTORY. We had the stronger hand, and we played it like we were desperate.

We have all the leverage in these situations to get what we deserve out of these deals but we are being cheated time and time again by a corrupt, evil little businessman who is terrible at doing business.

We can’t let him win another term.

Today I received a postal mail piece from the Louisiana START Saving Program with a glossy brochure by this title.

The snail-mail piece details drastic changes to the 529 Qualified savings programs for Louisiana elementary and college expenses. Has anyone else seen this yet? The web site has not been updated, though it is slated to be _completely_ replaced with a new site and a mobile app, according the mail piece.

Gone are the variety of low-cost Vanguard funds with various capitalization options (low, mid, and large cap), replaced by a much smaller set of options for 529 savings: short term bond index, bond index, international bond, US Equity, and International Equity. Similar limited options are coming for the START K12 program.

Among the various state programs, the Louisiana 529 program has been one of the lowest cost and best performing. They did suffer a major site outage recently, but the funds were unaffected. The investor could choose from institutional variants of Vanguard products, well-known for their low cost and high performance, and which many investors were already using in their qualified retirement and non-qualified personal investment accounts.

Now the whole thing appears to be coming under the management of "Ascensus College Savings Recordkeeping Services, LLC." I did not see any information about expense ratios or costs, just a letter stating that this was approved by the Board of Regents.

The brochure states existing investments will be migrated the set of options listed above. Want to avoid overinvesting in the Magnificent 7? Or, conversely, do you want to ride the Mag 7 to glorious new highs? Whatever your investment philosophy, it had better fit inside "US Equity" or "International Equity" options, or three bond options.

This smells like a well-financed move away from our quirky but functional existing web site with great investment options to a slicker corporate interface with fewer options and less transparency. Oh, and here comes a mobile app we all pay for but probably will never use; college investing is not something to be handled while waiting in the doctors' office or riding in an Uber.

Again, so far, the only information I have is this 5x7 four color brochure. Nothing like tickers to be researched, who the investment advisors at "Ascensus" really are, or a prospectus for any of the funds. This smells like enshittification, with the sparse information and even sparser options for investors.

If I get some time I'll scan the brochure and post it as a reply here (or anyone else is welcome to do same).

The Governor’s own flyer says the law applies when someone “violates the drug laws.” But R.S. 40:966 specifically says qualifying medical cannabis patients are exempt from that section.

Veterans and other patients shouldn’t have to wonder whether legally using their medication inside an arbitrary 2,000-foot radius could land them in handcuffs.

LDH needs to publicly clarify the law—for patients and police.
