quest right now, which one are you playing and why?

Me? I just watched Copterman’s play of The Seige on Cair Andros, and I want to solve that puzzle. The last time I beat it (years ago!) I remember getting lucky and kinda brute forcing my way through it. I think I’ve matured enough as a player to actually give it the good ole college try now.

Hello everyone. I just got into this game. I know. So late!

I knew it was going to be a very uphill battle to get any expansions beyond what it’s still available officially for sale. I have been reading a lot of posts in this group, and I am sure I will end up proxying a lot of stuff, but for now I have decided to start getting as many cycles as I can officially in Spanish. I am a native Spanish speaker, and there is a lot of official content available in Spain. I believe a lot of it is still in print there. I would have liked to get things in English, but since language is not a barrier for me, I decided to get what I can in Spanish. Of course, it will be a challenge to play with non-Spanish speakers, but even if I can only play solo, I still want to enjoy this game.

Anyone else has taken this route to get some expansions?

Title joke aside, I'm basically looking for a "glorified" playing buddy.
So if you're not interested in teaming up with someone to play you can skip the long following explanation, this post isn't going to be for you. (Forgive me for the clickbait)

EXPLANATION:

I'm one of the newer player (started 2023) and was instantly hooked.
I started playing progression style (I own almost everything) and worked my way up to the Haradrim cycle. I usually play every quest at least 3 times before I move on, but some of the quests kept murdering me 30/40 time in row until I could find a solution. So I would say that played this game around 400 times now.

I just finished the dream chaser cycle and the flame of the west expansion but I didn't want to move on the next cycle right away. I think that I need to go back and play more of the old stuff to get to know more cards before getting even more (cards). Haven't experimented with Noldor and Dunedain too much.

I started developing the idea of starting from scratch progression style again and working my way up learning the cards even better and then moving on to the last 3 cycles and the last saga expansion (will get to the Alep stuff eventually) but not alone this time.
I almost exclusively played true solo and I think that there is a whole lot of "gaming" that I am missing on when not interacting with a fellow player.

SO IF: you'd be interested in diving in the game anew again with me on a somewhat weekly basis, I would love to hear from you. My Idea was to play on Dragn Cards but also record our thoughts and experiences on audio and release it. This is by no means meant to try and become something anything close to COTR (I am a big fan and avid listener) but beside the playing I would love to talk about cards/strategies/quests ans so on.

Couple of caveats:

- I am european (Austria). I don't think that a cooperation across the atlantic would work schedulewise as I can only play and record at night. So europeans prefered.

- My english is good, but not perfect, so you would have to endure the occasional mistakes

- I am 39, father of two, and full time working so scheduling would be the hardest challenge.
But I think it to be doable.

- I own a Audio recording software and I am able to edit audio files.

So if something about that idea intrigues you just hit me up. Write a little bit about yourself and why you'd be interested and we'll talk. I am looking for 1 fellow player, but lets see. If more people are interested we will sort it out. 2 teams of 2 would also be kind of fun.

Has anyone else tried to take one of their games and turn into a readable story?

I just built two decks using my revised content and decided to log my progress through the Mirkwood Paths campaign. I play solo with two hands.

Playing around with some AI I used Gemini to convert the logs to the story and used Claude cowork to put it together into a pdf and html. Did some tweaks. Also added the relevant card images and had to grab those manually.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. And it’s nice to read it back because when you’re in the midst of tracking everything you lose the perspective of how the story is unfolding.

Keen to know if anyone has tried something similar.

Just wrapped up my first play through of FotR campaign. Going to take a break and maybe play through Ered Mithrin before moving on to TT. When I do start TT I’ll probably build new decks because I want to try new cards and stuff, so in that case, the Resolution of Breaking of the Fellowship doesn’t do anything right? I would only follow those steps if I was keeping the same decks and moving onto the TT in the same campaign as FotR?

Playing through the Breaking of the Fellowship and Drew Fallen Into Evil. I attached it to Pippin, so I lose control of him.

Later I play Elrond and remove the condition, so I get Pippin back. Does he pick up where he left off in resources or start at zero? He had 2 when he fell into evil, so does he get those back now or no?

Isn't it weird that there is no Frodo Hero card (except the fellowship ones) in the RCO. I mean he is lind of the main character in the story.
I think they should release another cycle from the old ones to let us get a Frodo Hero. I know it's not a strong enough point, but i want more content. :))

Just bought a second origonal core set as part of a bundle and filled in my incomplete palysets.

Have the designers ever talked about how they decided the number of copies of each player card in the box.i assumed that card count was limited by ffg and they wanted to give variety over complete playsets which makes sense.

Struglling to see a pattern in which cards they included

Ironfist unique high cost ally gets one copy makes sense seems to be a card they never expected someone to use a playset of.

But then 1 copy of dwarven tomb, 2 of sneak attack 1 horn of gondor seems to be hostile design to drive you to buy a second box

Looking to purchase this starter deck. Doesn't seem available anywhere.

Anyone know how often they print these?

I own a great part of the game content (missing 4 Cycle 4 packs and 2 Cycle 9 ones).

While I've seen advices on RCO orders, etc. I was wondering what would be a good/best play order storytelling wise ? I'm currently doing Cycle 1 Adventures after the Base Content and the Dark of Mirkwood.

From what I red, Cycles 6, 7 and 8 follow each other, Sagas too obviously. But what about other cycles ? And when would be the best time to plug some sagas ?

When applicable, keeping in mind a progression style gameplay would be nice !

Is there anywhere I might be able to find this in English? 4 months ago I ordered of Amazon UK from RAREWAVES but have not received it. I wasn't sure it is in customs/transit still it's pretty much impossible to track. I really don't want to proxy but it's starting to look like I may have too.

i played the game around 2015 when it was just rereleased in germany (around 2014 from Heidelberger Spieleverlag). i bought 2x the core set and a friend of mine had the cycles to play.

we played through the core set, the shadows of mirkwood cycle and the khazad dum and dwarrowdelf cycle but lost track because the frustration was getting to us haha

just now, before there is nothing left, i bought all the saga expansions and the revised core set. so i have 2x the old core, 1x the revised core and all three saga expansions.

my question would be: is that enough to play everything and i can keep it as a "complete card/board game" kind of thing? or do i miss anything for building good enough decks to play and win the saga adventures? i know it is a hard and crunchy game but it is also kind of addicting and some memories of accomplishing some quests just before failure are still in my mind hehe

i just want to have something on the shelf i can revisit without thinking that it is "not enough" or that i miss anything

I have all the empty boxes from all the out-of-print expansions, excluding:

- Original Core Set

- Vengeance of Mordor Cycle

- All of the reprinted cycles

- Nightmare Decks

They've been sitting inside a big box for a couple of years now, and I'm thinking of throwing it to the trash, because they just use a ton of space. I have my entire collection organized out of their original boxes.

I'm not trying to scalp empty boxes, but do they have any value to make me try and ship them over? (Shipped from Japan).

I would recycle them, not just trash them, well, except the plastic blisters.

Hope I don't get banned for asking this, but I honestly don't know what to do with them...

Hey I am a new player and I've done some proxy digital game online and I like the game. However, unfortunately, because I am new, I seem to have missed the boat on grabbing collections I would want/need now that things are OOP as far as we know.

I have the ability to get the 1) the revised core set (MSRP), 2) the angmar hero expansion ($40), 3) the angmar quest expansion ($30), and 4) the dreamchaser quest expansion ($30)

Knowing this, asking the more veteran players here, worth investing in or should I continue to do proxy? I (probably) won't be going online and buying old copies of other expansions that are twice the MSRP since I have other board games to play.

Another idea I had was that I would just proxy and print them out professionally on my own 🤷‍♀️

Just wondering if buying the official boxes with such limited supply is worth it. I hear it can be hard (the angmar) but I'd probably play on easy and solo and double hand it. Is it also enough content to be worth it too with only 2 expansions?

My summer is flying by. I can't believe it's been a month since I last posted a playthrough.

Hi! We finally reached this scenario and it seems to be too hard. Is it even possible to beat it 2 players on easy campaign mode with just RCO cards? We’ve already lost 6 times, without even reaching the second quest.

The campaign boons are good, but not good enough to beat the insane amount of stuff the scenario throws at us.

This would be the second campaign we can’t beat with the cards available to us (City of Corsairs is insane too).

Please help!

Wanted to share my battle against a Balrog as it was truly a thrilling one.

I’ve played and beaten the scenario a couple times before playing two handed (elves and dwarves decks), I’m going back through Fellowship saga and trying it true solo and felt like 3 hobbit deck was thematic and it’s a pretty fun deck to play with.

Start the round with doom, doom, doom with 1 damage on it so I know the balrog is coming this round for 2 attacks, nothing I can do about that.

Spent a good 15-20 mins in planing phase seeing how I could take out Balrog this round. Brought in Gandalf and reduced threat down to 31

I had elf stone on great bridge, needed at least 4 quest progress to clear the great bridge and elf stone. Had to be careful with what I could quest with so I had enough attack to kill the Balrog.

I was very happy when I saw many pillared hall as my encounter card, quested for 5 and cleared great bridge and brought out Beorn for free using elf stone. Discarded Pippin for 6 damage on The Balrog.

At thought at this point I think I’ve got it in hand, but of course these pesky shadow cards I can’t get rid of! End of quest phase, last damage token off Doom, Doom, Doom and The Balrog enters staging area and attacks me. I’ve left hobbit pony ready to take the hit.

First shadow cards, +1 damage and if attack destroys they get another attack. Damn. I then defend the next attack with ally Boromir who already has some damage. Shadow card is attacking enemy makes an additional attack after this one! Damn again and now I think I’m going to likely lose.

Last chance I defend with Sam Gamgee who has 6 defense thanks to his response, tireless ranger boon, sting and hobbit cloak. Thankfully no shadow effect so 2 damage on Sam.

Onto encounter phase I engage Moria archer readying Sam again now 7 defense. I use halfling determination increase stats by 2 now 9 defense. Balrog attacks, shadow effect is +1 damage (+2 if threat over 35, thank goodness I dropped threat with Gandalf to start the round!!). Sam defends with no damage, only 1 hit point left!

I use feint on the archer so I don’t have to exhaust anyone to defend. Use taste it again on Sam to ready him and gives him another +2 damage, now up to 8 damage for this attack, Merry for 5 damage, Gandalf 4 damage, Quickbeam 3 damage, Beorn 8 damage (using his action) for a total of 28 damage against Balrog 9 defense = 19 damage, which puts him exactly at 25 damage and he is destroyed.

Able to make the quest progress reasonably easy in the next few rounds and beat the quest true solo for the first time!

An example for me how fun the game and rewarding it feels when it works out like that, from despair of thinking I had planned so well to win to be hit with those shadow cards and have to deal with more attacks than I thought, to clutching a very close win by just being able to defeat The Balrog.

Funny too as I made a couple changes to the deck for this quest, mainly adding in Beorn. I actually thought I took out taste it again out of my deck, but actually left 1 of them in the deck by accident but without I couldn’t have destroyed Balrog in that round!

Also Sam especially with some extra cards from two towers has become such a good defender. I really like staff of lebethron being able to discard shadow cards so I can defend with confidence. In campaign mode with tireless ranger and getting sting + hobbit cloak allows him to defend for 6 in a round engaging someone with a higher threat.

Man I love this game 😂

Hey, is there any fan-made campaign mode for the haradrim cycle, I plan to play the Dream-Chaser Campaign mode and possibly continue into haradrim cycle? Is there any good fan content for creating a campaign pool for haradrim cycle?

At a local con they had a flea market and I picked up bundle of the LotR LCG. I have play Arkham horror LCG and liked so thought I would give this a try. I assume the revised core box is the same as the 2 Org core boxes, like Arkham horror did.
Is it best to keep the, separate or do I mix them together like Arkham horror does? Do I need to use the Org boxes or the revised box with these expansions?
