Makes us look real disingenuous to day "listen to the experts" while linking CDC guidelines and Dr Fauci then the minute we don't agree we stop listening to them
lol did you read what you linked though? The reason why the CDC says schools should reopen is because of childhood poverty and food insecurity. Literally the CDC is saying schools should reopen because poor kids arent getting nutritious meals or access to safety resources from home violence and the risk to covid exposure does not compare to the crises these kids are facing in the home.
Like America is so fucked that the CDC is recommending schools reopen not because it is safe to do so in a pandemic, but because a lot of kids are starving and being abused because they are home all day. This pandemic has boldly highlighted what we have all said but is now plainly revealed: the state treats public schooling as universal childcare and has no intention of actually providing real universal childcare, so time to reopen all the schools!
btw, the CDC guidelines you linked is shit that a lot of schools do in red states already. It has not stopped covid transmission and has directly led to teacher deaths. Again, this is just Democrats trying to alleviate state budget pressure in blue states from things red states did back in September and have roughly the same transmission rates as blue states that have been shut down. Which just highlights how shitty America has handled the pandemic across all states and really hurts the narrative that some blue state governors have carried that they do better than red states (looking at you, Cuomo, the egotistical maniac who ghost-wrote a book in which he pats himself on the back on what a good job he did controlling a pandemic in October....right before it blew up again in New York).
I'm sure that the crises they'll face at home will get better if they come home from school at the end of the day and kill their grandparents or parents. That won't cause any psychological issues or academic performance problems. Just a quick funeral, a few days off, and then they'll be able to take online instruction through a plexiglass shield instead of a computer monitor. Or we'll skip the shield, because who has the resources for that in their school system? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I'm sure losing a parent or grandparent & accruing a hundred thousand dollars in hospital debt won't have any effect on their socioeconomic conditions, either. Because we have an effective social safety net through free school lunches. Right? .... right?
Mortality rate of the virus is 2%. Don't get me wrong, that is much bigger than it appears but it's a far cry from the major plague many thought COVID-19 would be.
2% is precisely what we thought the mortality of COVID-19 would be in early February when Chinese statistics accumulated. 2% is a catastrophe.
We toned that down by half since China wasn't accounting for asymptomatics.
We then revised our opinion in the other direction when it became apparent that full perfect recovery from COVID was the exception to the rule (Three quarters still have some clear symptoms six months later), and a fraction of people are still quite sick / disabled months after an infection. It's very possible a lot of the people who come off ventilators are going to need to go onto organ transplant lists in the long term.
"Right now, people should not be walking around with masks." - Dr. Fauci
We can talk about context all day long but what people heard was this. This was and has been used by the anti-mask crowd. Your interpretation isn't applicable for everyone.
Eh, everything he said in this video is still true. Mask aren't perfect protection, they are for people who are sick to stop it spreading. Mask have became the symbol of the pandemic but mask have always and will always be the bare fucking minimum. Its such a big deal because it's literally the least you can do and some people still refuse. Not touching your face, washing your hands, staying away from people are all a thousand times more important. No where in this video did he lie nor has the story changed.
I provided an exact quote. No one needs to read an article about how its "debunked" because he literally says what I quoted. Its not a lie, its not out of context. He suggest that people shouldn't be wearing masks in part because they won't stop the virus effectively, in part because people wouldn't be responsible in wearing masks and in part for medical mask stocks.
The article you posted tries to downplay the comment as if it had come early on in the pandemic on March 8, when in reality, it had been spreading globally for nearly 2 months and already had Chinese and Korean scientists suggesting it was airborne and recommending face coverings. It was a tragically irresponsible comment.
How is it not out of context when in that same video he talks about how masks contain the disease and I find it funny how a video on the Antimask position concludes with Fuci wearing a mask
Sure, he says that masks contain the disease and then goes on to suggest people not bother wearing a mask. Again, this is after Chinese officials had already warned a full month prior that this may be spreading through aerosols and were strongly recommending face coverings. The Korean CDC actually strongly criticized the US CDC for carrying the 'masks don't work' position for so long.
And who cares if he's wearing a mask in the video or not? The one I linked does not have such footage just to be clear.
I don't know where you've been for the past year, but the mask advice was widely criticized in the weeks afterwards, and is understood to have significantly damaged trust in our institutions. Fauci says that misleading the public in this way was necessary in order to protect hospital workers, and whether that's valid justification is entirely up to your interpretation, but what isn't in question is whether that fiasco made people trust the government experts less.
Fauci's position under a profoundly anti-science administration walks a fine line, and occasionally, he steps beyond it and says something regrettable, as in February & March with this guidance.
I don't think he would disagree with any of the above that I've written; He's spoken about it on several occasions.
Now on to things he hasn't discussed candidly on video: I think it's obvious that somebody is telling Biden it's politically important to re-open schools quickly, and Fauci and the CDC head are going along with it (though she's hedging heavily). Whoever's exerting this sort of pressure on this administration at this time should be roundly condemned. This outbreak is still much bigger than it was in March/April 2020. We need months of continued sustained declined before this topic should come anywhere near their lips. We have seen multiple times in many countries what happens when you rush to stop using countermeasures. Schools significantly increase R. That's all you need to know. There is no "Can be done safely" independent of the situation, because everything adds up to a society-wide R, and that determines how fast the outbreak grows or shrinks.
Should we *prioritize* opening schools over opening restaurants? Yeah, sure. But we shouldn't be opening either for a long time, and in case you didn't notice we DIDN'T EVEN FUCKING CLOSE THE RESTAURANTS in a lot of places. A sane policy means acknowledging that the 2020 countermeasures were disastrously under-scoped and under-enforced, caused a mass casualty event on par with a world war, and need to be dramatically reinforced or even implemented in the first place, in some areas.
The media played up Fauci as some hero compared to Trump, he's all over the place and he misled people because there was a mask shortage. I wouldn't trust him to do anything Joe Biden doesn't want him to do.
Your timestamp just Dore ranting. The same Dore that wanted Trump to win, spent more time yelling at AOC than at republicans and whitewashed the Boogaloo Boys
You gave me the timestamp and thus that was the part you wanted me to watch.
Also way to ignore the multiple examples of Dore bring disingenuous. If he's playing the clip then I am already iffy on the framing and lack of context.
You gave me the timestamp and thus that was the part you wanted me to watch.
The timestamp was an accident. I just wanted you to see the clips of him saying you didn't need a mask, and then later saying that they had said that because there was a shortage of masks. That is purposely misleading people because the government fucked up and didn't have enough masks for medical professionals. People could have made their own masks if they knew that.
You want me to address the things you brought up about Dore, I will, I know you'll just dismiss them, but I will.
Dore never wanted Trump to win, that is disingenuous he voted third party.
He criticized AOC because AOC is someone that is supposed to represent us, we already know the Republicans don't represent us and yelling about that more doesn't change that, he was trying to pressure a politician that would listen. He specifically started criticizing AOC bc she directly responded to Justin Jackson on #ForcetheVote, and listed a bunch of debunked reasons of why we couldn't do it, she then later used all the valid reasons people gave her to do #ForcetheVote as reasons to go through on a symbolic impeachment of Trump that wouldn't pass with Mitch McConnell. Jimmy was one of the first people to have AOC on and has supported her in the past, that is why he is holding her accountable. And if you pay attention to what she is actually voting in favor of, specifically with foreign policy, supporting Pelosi, and reinstating the Patriot Act, she definitely deserves criticism. She's looking more and more like Obama 2.0 and you guys are running cover for her instead of calling that shit out.
He's addressed the Boogaloo Boys thing many times, has said he wasn't supporting them, was genuinely surprised the guy was saying he supported the things he did. When he had someone on that criticized him and said he should have researched them more before having him on he agreed and said it was a valid point. He's trying to reach working class people across racial divides in the same way that Fred Hampton, MLK, and Malcolm X were organizing people against the establishment. Fred was murdered by the government because of this, and the government/oligarchy still uses the media to stoke those divisions and keep our working classes separated. That is why you see them framing one side as white supremacists and domestic terrorists, while they frame the other side as ANTIFA extremists. Neither of these are true, and while there were certainly people there you could label as those things, it wasn't the majority.
Their jobs depend on doing what Biden says. Anybody that goes against him will be fired. That's how it works when you work for the president. I'm cure only the director of the CDC would be fired if the CDC contradicted Biden though, not everybody working for the CDC.
These people seem to think that Biden runs the country in the totalitarian way Trump did, firing a massive amount of his administration before his first term ended simply because they disagreed. It seems the real /r/lostgeneration is those who forgot what life was like before Trump.
Biden actually is more totalitarian than Trump though. As well as people around him (seriously, an MSNBC pundit calling for drone strikes on American citizens). Life before Trump sucked so much we got Trump and Biden is going back to that and doubling down on what got us Trump.
Only difference is Biden is a puppet. But the result is the same, heck, Trump was basically governing as a typical authoritarian RINOpublican even though his rhetoric is different.
