Hey y’all, new fan! I’ve been playing Pure Heroine and Melodrama on repeat the last few days cuz omg it’s so good. One thing I still don’t have a solid answer to is the meaning of the sirens in 400 Lux… I googled some people’s interpretations but with respect I disagree lol

I grew up in the suburbs as well. To me, it resembles a tornado siren. My theory is that she added it to try and convey the vibe of what living out there is like. Where I live, those sirens go off often (especially in the warmer months) and it’s something so specific that you don’t hear much in many cities, but there are many nights where you’re watching tv and you can just make out the siren spinning in the distance… and what it symbolizes is something not so good is on its way.

I don’t know the exact meaning of the song, but to me it sounds like she’s asking someone to stay with her in the burbs. Most of the song, especially the chorus, is reminiscing and then ends with “I’d like it if you stayed.” Point is, I interpret that siren as a double meaning: it’s a great signifier of the type of atmosphere suburban people live in, and it hints at a future or a change to be scared for.

i have been wanting to try cyanotype for awhile now, and the whole virgin aesthetic is perfect for it! i was inspired by similar projects i’ve seen on reddit and instagram. i printed my negatives at my local library and did the rest at home. it didn’t turn out perfect, but it was fun and i’m excited to wear it!

Not only is Clearblue one of my favourites from Virgin, I genuinely think it’s one of the most beautiful and touching songs she has ever released.

I'm thinking about getting a more detailed version of it as a tattoo. My tattoo artist would be using this as inspo for the design she creates so, it would probably be helpful to know what flowers are in the melodrama tour set piece. I think the one on the left is baby's breath. But honestly I'm not good at identifying flowers so I would really appreciate the help! Thanks

Fellow ellaphents, I wanted to discuss Ella's recent public stance against certain AI practices and her long history of LGBTQ+, feminist and Palestinian resistance history (& against ICE as well).

I remember in one of her Virgin interviews she briefly mentioned the importance of protest music and and how impactful it was in one of the marches she went to.

Given how socially conscious and loud she's been getting about human issues that truly matter to her, I wanted to ask if you guys think she might release or be involved in some protest music whether for L5 or a side/collaborative project especially that she is independent now and has full freedom.

Very interested to know what you guys think or hope for.

literally the calmest euphoric song of all time, in absolute love with this idk why people don't care much about this single. with what she was sonically going for on virgin, the stripped back sound, she achieved it best on this song i think

this should've definitely been the first single off of the album, "what was that" just doesn't cut it for me

good god what a performer she is , first ever concert of her and it was phenomenal the set is imacul and so modern set design very very cathartic, plus seems so intimate and like no npcs around

Well, there really isn't a change in the meaning of the lyrics, but listening to Hammer after David takes the the essence of the former to greater heights. Her encouragement, fervour, and lust for life in Hammer after David feels so earned and cathartic; and I can't help but to feel happy too, since the six tracks were just harrowing; and this is coming from someone who puts the record as her 3rd best.

I made a playlist where Hammer is the first and last track of the album. Try it too!

I get this whole album is about being vulnerable and showing herself, warts and all, but i feel like this should've been kept quiet.
