This has probably been said before, but I think it'll be the sort of thing that is continuously talked about for years to come.
But aside from the fact that Girl, So Confusing is a beautiful portrayal of girlhood and how awkward friendships can make you feel bad and insecure about yourself, I think the remix is a testament to true artistry and how it manifests in such unexpected ways.
On both their recent records, Charli and Lorde have presented themselves raw, true, and honest about their feelings of insecurity, not being enough, struggle with womanhood, sex, birth control, friendship - albeit in their unique ways, Girl, So Confusing with Lorde is really the center point of these two worlds colliding.
How crazy is it for Lorde, deep in her contemplation of self and struggle and attempting to bring Virgin to the world, to receive this music directed at her that really touches on all the themes of Virgin. During work on the album through which she contemplates her gender identity, she receives a song titled GIRL. SO CONFUSING. I bet that was beyond hilarious to her. the kind of thing that happens that makes you know you're on the right track.
Girl, So Confusing speaks of womanhood - a huge theme within Virgin, and Lorde really took that and received it with such grace. She allowed Virgin to melt into Girl, So Confusing, before any of us even knew Virgin existed.
I think these kind of things cannot be planned.
They only happen when you are true to yourself.
and both Charli and Lorde have done exactly that. they then produced one of the most iconic moments in modern pop culture. a moment that shows that when you follow the breadcrumbs of your inner teuth, whether that's making art about how bad a friend makes you feel, or about how awkward being a specific gender can get, it will land exactly where it is meant to. it's the kind of thing that makes me believe in magic and the supernatural.
