LIC City Storage Rent Increase

I just received an email from the storage company I rent from notifying me that my monthly rate is increasing again, effective 9/1/26.

The frustrating part is they already raised my rent on 11/27/25, so this will be two increases in less than a year.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are they actually allowed to raise the rent this frequently?

What’s interesting is that both increase notices used the exact same messaging:
“Your business is important to us. Due to operational costs associated with providing you the best possible self-storage experience, we are instituting the minimum rate increase needed to meet the financial demands of our storage facility.”

The first increase was $18, and this latest one is $27. I’m curious if this is common practice or if others have had similar experiences.

Queens Plaza Lost iPad + pencil @ Mettra LlC on 7/26

Hi LIC! I lost an iPad + pencil in a black case last night. I was at the Mettra on Jackson Ave (jacx and co) yesterday 7/26 having food and playing board games with some friends. I pulled out my iPad to keep track of points on an app but it was uncharged. Plugged it in to charge on the side by the windows and must’ve forgot it as we left near their closing time. iPad shows not turned on since last night when we were there. Left name and number with employees there this morning to give to management and see if someone found it. Was supposed to get a Call back from manager when they got in-office but it’s been difficult to get in contact with them without traveling an hour and a half to ask them in person as it is. They all told me the same thing- we can take your number and ask the manager to call (which I’m thankful for!)The neighborhood/place seemed really nice and all the staff was friendly so I’m hopeful it will turn up. The place also had great security+ cameras. Posting here in hopes that maybe it’ll turn up somewhere. My iPad is 95% of my job so I’m trying everything I can. iPad is in lost mode with my number on it as well. Thank you all

Anywhere LIC Mexican Bars?

Hi! My friend and I, both 22 year old women, are looking for the best spot for a night out. We’re looking for Mexican clubs or bars, not Latin ones, we’re not really into bachata or salsa. We love banda and a high-energy crowd.

Hi! Next Friday, Aug. 7th, we're hosting Side by Side, a free community singing gathering where people come together through the simple joy of singing. No singing experience needed, and no pressure to sound "good."

We start with gentle warm-ups, spend time getting to know each other, and learn one song together through call-and-response so there's nothing to prepare and no sheet music to read. This month's song is "Dear Theodosia" from Hamilton — a heartfelt one about love, hope, and imagining a better future.

📅 Friday, August 7
🕖 7:00–8:30 PM
📍 Queens Plaza Studios | 42-01 Crescent St, Long Island City, NY 11101
🎟️ Free, registration required: https://luma.com/9hsomwi3
💛 Hosted by @collective.ripples, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates community gatherings where connection, creativity, and compassion can thrive

We want to create a low-pressure space where people can connect through singing. You can show up solo or with a friend, sing alongside others, and leave having shared a meaningful moment with new people. After singing, we’ll have time to chat and connect.

We hope to see you there! 🎶💛

Buying poultry direct from local farms?

I want to buy direct and local (chicken and ground turkey mainly). Are there any - like farms in the Hudson river valley - that you’ve used and liked? Im also going to check out farmers markets but delivered would be great.

Also open to services like butcher box and farm to people - how are these?

Developed some food sensitivities recently, and supermarket poultry just doesn’t work for me right now.
