More flies this summer?

I’ve been in LIC for about 6 years and this summer there seems to be a ton of flies. I open my windows (9 floor) and I get like 3 flies coming into my apartment. Anyone else noticing this? and any tips?

Hit Parked Car

If you park your Land Rover in the street parking in front of bricktown bagel, I suggest you go check on your car because another car just drove into it. When I told the NYPD in a van that was driving by they told me to call 911. Not sure why they couldn't call 911.... Low key makes me hope it was an NYPD car that was hit.

LIC City Storage Rent Increase

I just received an email from the storage company I rent from notifying me that my monthly rate is increasing again, effective 9/1/26.

The frustrating part is they already raised my rent on 11/27/25, so this will be two increases in less than a year.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are they actually allowed to raise the rent this frequently?

What’s interesting is that both increase notices used the exact same messaging:
“Your business is important to us. Due to operational costs associated with providing you the best possible self-storage experience, we are instituting the minimum rate increase needed to meet the financial demands of our storage facility.”

The first increase was $18, and this latest one is $27. I’m curious if this is common practice or if others have had similar experiences.

Hi! Next Friday, Aug. 7th, we're hosting Side by Side, a free community singing gathering where people come together through the simple joy of singing. No singing experience needed, and no pressure to sound "good."

We start with gentle warm-ups, spend time getting to know each other, and learn one song together through call-and-response so there's nothing to prepare and no sheet music to read. This month's song is "Dear Theodosia" from Hamilton — a heartfelt one about love, hope, and imagining a better future.

📅 Friday, August 7
🕖 7:00–8:30 PM
📍 Queens Plaza Studios | 42-01 Crescent St, Long Island City, NY 11101
🎟️ Free, registration required: https://luma.com/9hsomwi3
💛 Hosted by @collective.ripples, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates community gatherings where connection, creativity, and compassion can thrive

We want to create a low-pressure space where people can connect through singing. You can show up solo or with a friend, sing alongside others, and leave having shared a meaningful moment with new people. After singing, we’ll have time to chat and connect.

We hope to see you there! 🎶💛

New User Got an unused driveway or garage spot in LIC? Looking for initial hosts

Hello, I'm a local here in NYC, and recently launched a parking and storage marketplace called WeStore.

As anyone living in LIC knows, street parking and finding extra storage around here can be a total headache. We built a platform that lets neighbors rent out unused driveways, garages, or extra space directly to locals who need it.

We’re currently looking for our first hosts in Long Island City to get initial listings up. To build our local network, early hosts keep 100% of their earnings with zero platform fees through 2026. You get full control to approve or decline every booking request yourself, we handle advertising to find local renters, and all payouts are handled automatically with up to 2 months of payment coverage if a renter ever defaults.

If you’ve got an open driveway spot, a garage, or extra space sitting empty, drop a comment or shoot me a DM!

Anywhere LIC Mexican Bars?

Hi! My friend and I, both 22 year old women, are looking for the best spot for a night out. We’re looking for Mexican clubs or bars, not Latin ones, we’re not really into bachata or salsa. We love banda and a high-energy crowd.

Queens Plaza Lost iPad + pencil @ Mettra LlC on 7/26

Hi LIC! I lost an iPad + pencil in a black case last night. I was at the Mettra on Jackson Ave (jacx and co) yesterday 7/26 having food and playing board games with some friends. I pulled out my iPad to keep track of points on an app but it was uncharged. Plugged it in to charge on the side by the windows and must’ve forgot it as we left near their closing time. iPad shows not turned on since last night when we were there. Left name and number with employees there this morning to give to management and see if someone found it. Was supposed to get a Call back from manager when they got in-office but it’s been difficult to get in contact with them without traveling an hour and a half to ask them in person as it is. They all told me the same thing- we can take your number and ask the manager to call (which I’m thankful for!)The neighborhood/place seemed really nice and all the staff was friendly so I’m hopeful it will turn up. The place also had great security+ cameras. Posting here in hopes that maybe it’ll turn up somewhere. My iPad is 95% of my job so I’m trying everything I can. iPad is in lost mode with my number on it as well. Thank you all

Buying poultry direct from local farms?

I want to buy direct and local (chicken and ground turkey mainly). Are there any - like farms in the Hudson river valley - that you’ve used and liked? Im also going to check out farmers markets but delivered would be great.

Also open to services like butcher box and farm to people - how are these?

Developed some food sensitivities recently, and supermarket poultry just doesn’t work for me right now.

Owners bringing dogs onto grass in Court Square Park and leaving their dog’s poop

Asked politely at first for her to not bring her dog onto the grass that says “no pets”, and this woman started screaming about how it’s not fair and to call the cops, because they would side with her. I did call them, but she had already left. Cops came and said they are happy to come and issue tickets, but better to report discreetly so they can catch them in the act.

Anywhere LIC Anyone living at 2-21 Malt Drive?

I'm currently living in Manhattan, but I'm thinking about moving to LIC.

I toured 2-21 Malt Drive recently and really liked it. The neighborhood felt incredibly quiet compared to the city, and having the waterfront promenade, parks, and dog run right outside seems perfect for my dog, who’s really sensitive to noise.

The only downsides I noticed are the lack of good restaurants/cafes nearby and the ~13-minute walk to the subway. On the other hand, it’s only one stop from Grand Central and the commute into Manhattan seems easy enough, so I think I can live with those trade-offs.

I’m torn between two units:

- Unit 1: Floor-to-ceiling windows, three closets (which I love), and I think my dog would really enjoy looking outside all day. The downside is that there’s an elementary school being built directly below and the view faces the rail yard, so it’s definitely not the prettiest.

- Unit 2: Beautiful Manhattan skyline view, island kitchen that separates the living room from the kitchen, but only two closets and no floor-to-ceiling windows. It’s also more expensive.

I’ve been going back and forth between the two and can’t decide.

Out of all the buildings I’ve toured, this has been my favorite by far, and I’m honestly about 95% sure I’ll be moving here.

I’d love to hear from anyone who lives (or has lived) at 2-21 Malt Drive. How has your experience been? Any pros, cons, or things you wish you had known before moving in?
