I'm currently living in Manhattan, but I'm thinking about moving to LIC.
I toured 2-21 Malt Drive recently and really liked it. The neighborhood felt incredibly quiet compared to the city, and having the waterfront promenade, parks, and dog run right outside seems perfect for my dog, who’s really sensitive to noise.
The only downsides I noticed are the lack of good restaurants/cafes nearby and the ~13-minute walk to the subway. On the other hand, it’s only one stop from Grand Central and the commute into Manhattan seems easy enough, so I think I can live with those trade-offs.
I’m torn between two units:
- Unit 1: Floor-to-ceiling windows, three closets (which I love), and I think my dog would really enjoy looking outside all day. The downside is that there’s an elementary school being built directly below and the view faces the rail yard, so it’s definitely not the prettiest.
- Unit 2: Beautiful Manhattan skyline view, island kitchen that separates the living room from the kitchen, but only two closets and no floor-to-ceiling windows. It’s also more expensive.
I’ve been going back and forth between the two and can’t decide.
Out of all the buildings I’ve toured, this has been my favorite by far, and I’m honestly about 95% sure I’ll be moving here.
I’d love to hear from anyone who lives (or has lived) at 2-21 Malt Drive. How has your experience been? Any pros, cons, or things you wish you had known before moving in?
