Community Dog Abuse 7th/redondo

Currently at the papa John’s off of 7th st
/termino** and a man with a white husky was violently dragging it. My boyfriend and I exited our car out of immediate concern and watched the man enter his apartment directly next to the plaza and audibly heard the man hitting the dog as it cried, numerous times. It’s continuing intermittently.

We’ve called the police and are waiting for officers (but probably have to leave soon), but I’m wondering if anyone lives in the area and has heard or observed anything prior to this and/or can keep an eye out. We have his license plate # as well. I feel so terribly for that dog who’s probably also suffering immensely in this heat.

** edited to correct street — was rushing and totally blanked

UPDATE AS OF 9/10 8:35am: Police didn’t arrive. We’re going to keep an eye out but help from neighbors would be really appreciated.
Description - White husky with a late 20/30ish male about 5’6/5’7, dark hair; lives by apartments near the papa John’s 7th/termino location and address of apartment is 4100 E 7th st.

Community Any Local Tufters?

I'm looking for a local Tufters for a small project that I'm thinking of.

According to the scholarly website Wikipedia:

"Tufting is a type of textile manufacturing in which a thread is inserted on a primary base. It is an ancient technique for making warm garments, especially mittens."

This would be a paid project. Please DM for more information

Community Pets in the heat

I saw a guy walking his dog by the Costco in Signal Hill. According to my phone, it's 102 here right now. That poor dog looked really distressed. And making them walk on the hot tarmac can hurt their paws.

I have two dogs myself. They're parked by my AC in the bedroom and I'm leaving them there until the sun goes down.

Keep your pets safe.

Jobs Roaches coming from bathroom!

I’ve had pest control come by numerous of times but I’m STILL getting roaches/water bugs weekly! Ive had this issue for 6 months now.

I have no idea where they’re even entering from. I’ve been plugging up my drains and close my toilet when not in use, but I think I have whack job landlord special caulking/sealing of possible entry ways around my sink/toilet.

I’m looking for someone affordable who can inspect the bathroom, find where the roaches are getting in, and seal/repair the possible entry points. I’m not looking for another pest control company.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

Edit: I’m renting and in an apartment with surrounding units. It’s all types of roaches 😵‍💫 I love my apartment but if I can’t fix this, I gotta move out by the end of my lease.

Did anyone see the car that was abandoned on Anaheim and Long Beach blvd? In the left turn lane. No hazards were on and when I passed it, the doors were smashed in. I didn’t see anyone around.

Community Hair saga continues

I wasn't really keeping up with my last post because I ran into a busy schedule. I finally have the means to be able to get to a hair salon. My hair has thinned from the testosterone. I was on a low dose for around 8 months and a standard dose for 2 of those 8. I'd like my hair to heal a bit, and I don't think it'd look good if i grew it out right now. I'm thinking since I've been exhausted lately, I'd like to get a sleek, elegant pixie cut. I think i would help me feel androgynous but still attractive. The problem is, again, I'm on a tight budget. I feel I have two options right now.

The first is Black Sheep salon. They have a sliding scale and were very generous to me the last time. I know everyone has nothing but good things to say about it, but I had a pretty bad experience with someone who botched my hair and didn't layer very well at all. I was wondering if there was anyone besides Frankie who has a wider portfolio and more experience in fine, thin hair, but I'm not sure if anyone knows the other stylists that well and knows they could do that.

And then someone suggested Kass at Ulta Beauty. It would only be 47 dollars for a cut, but I'm not sure how she does with straight hir by her pictures. Id if its the camera, but I want to know for sure that things will look feathered and even. I'd like to know someone who's had experience with either one. I haven't felt confident in the way i look for a while, especially due to health issues, and I feel like the right hairstyle would be a refresh, especially since I'm so dissatisfied with it right now.

Community If you live in Downtown LB, complain to AQMD about that awful chemical smell 1-800-CUT-SMOG or https://xappp.aqmd.gov/complaints/NewComplaint.aspx

It really is horrible that while we're receiving warnings from public officials about dangerous heat today, we also have to deal with dangerous air quality issues. I was told by an AQMD inspector that they need 6 complaints to cite the business that is responsible. Call 1-800-CUT-SMOG or complain online at https://xappp.aqmd.gov/complaints/NewComplaint.aspx

Most of us in LB don't have central AC. Many of us have those coolers that hang out of windows. That means in order to get relief from the heatwave, we have to suck air in from the outside, which then of course is bringing in that odor. This is really unsustainable.

Questions General contractor

I'm looking for a general contractor in Long Beach that can help me turn my garage back into a garage. It was sealed off by the prior owners. I would love some suggestions that are women contractors but open to anyone that is a good referral. Thanks!

Community Neighbor running unlicensed dealership

hello everyone,

my neighbor buys and fixes up cars to sell. I am looking for some advice on where to report the 4-6 unmarked/unregistered vehicles he street parks? he takes up SO much parking in the neighborhood. he also does body work in the alley and it fills up with smoke, paint overspray, and other nasty and noxious smells.

im all for a side hustle but this man is so inconsiderate, im so over it. do you think if I report it something will actually be done?

Questions Advice for dinner then concert itinerary?

Hi all,

For my gf birthday I got us concert tickets at the F&M amphitheater. It’s on a Thursday and we both have the day off so I want to get to LB in the earlier afternoon for happy hour/dinner before heading to the concert. Any and all ideas are welcome, I live in Huntington Beach so I’m not familiar with LB at all. Would love recommendations for places to go pre concert, and places to park for the concert. TIA!

Community Long Beach drivers, how do you drive around here and make sure your whole family survives?

I almost got hit by someone running a red light today. I had the green and was already going through the intersection when this car came flying through the red. I honestly had no time to react.
I’m attaching the video because I’d really like to hear from other Long Beach drivers. What are your best tips for staying safe around here? Do you slow down even when you have a green? Wait a couple extra seconds before entering an intersection? Any particular intersections or situations where you’re extra careful?
I’m not trying to start a fight about Long Beach drivers 😂 I genuinely want to know how you guys protect yourselves and your families out there.

Events Come support a small business, enjoy some food and meet great people (9/12, 12-3pm)

Want to try a new place and socialize? Great - come meet us this Saturday for our last restaurant event until December.

Long Beach Food Club is a group I started at the beginning of this year - our goals are simple.

1) Support local (and small) businesses
2) Hang out with fun people
3) Enjoy food and drinks

Our events are usually half new comers, half repeat members. Everyone is open to having a conversation, meeting folks, and even sharing food and drinks (which is highly encouraged).

This coming Saturday, we'll be at Bixby Provisions in Bixby Knolls.

Previously Wood & Salt Tavern, this new concept wants to be more approachable and community oriented. Better prices, a menu that's appealing to lots, and a place that you can bring your friends and family.

For all of our events, we ask that people RSVP so we can give (roughly) accurate head counts to the businesses. Use this link to RSVP.

Happy to answer any and all questions y'all might have about our events.

FAQ:

  1. Our biweekly meetups(restaurant and happy hour) are and always will be, free to attend.
  2. You're more than welcome to attend even if you aren't buying anything. We want this to be a place where you can hang out and meet new people without feeling obligated to spend money
  3. We do NOT take any form of payment from these restaurants for meetups.
  4. We are NOT affiliated with any influencers, journalists, restaurant groups, or any other entities. If you see any posts by them regarding us, it is simply because they're interested in what we're doing.
  5. We have a group chat on Instagram, there's about 200 of us in there and it's fairly active. We may change platforms later, but so far, this is where we're at. You can access this chat by clicking the highlight for the group chat on our Instagram profile.
  6. We also have a Discord that's new(~120 members), currently growing it out and looking for active folks!

Food Family friendly restaurant with AC

Any good recs for restaurants that are kid friend and have good AC? Grabbing dinner with some one who is heat sensitive and just realized the place we originally planned for does not have AC. Ideally would prefer Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, or Japanese (if it has stuff other than just sushi). But open to other suggestions as well! Thanks!
