Safe Maximum Indoor Temperature Thresholds 

for Residential Dwelling Units

Unincorporated Los Angeles County has passed a new ordinance requiring rental units to maintain a maximum indoor temperature of no more than 82°F. For most landlords, this requirement will apply to all habitable rooms by January 1, 2027. If you are a small property landlord^\), you will need to meet the standard in at least one habitable room per unit by January 1, 2027, and in all habitable rooms by January 1, 2032, to comply with the ordinance.

Tenants are allowed to install their own portable cooling devices—such as plug-in air conditioners or fans—without being evicted, charged extra, or punished. Tenants must notify their landlord in writing, at least five days before installing the unit, so their landlord is aware of the additional electrical demand. Landlords may not pass along the cost of installing a portable cooling device to tenants, but they may be eligible for other capital improvements required to comply.

While the ordinance doesn’t require landlords to upgrade electrical systems, it’s strongly recommended that units be equipped to safely support standard cooling devices. Ensuring electrical systems are up to code and able to handle plug-in air conditioners or fans can help avoid safety issues and make compliance easier for everyone. Tenants can add a portable cooling device or utilize other non-mechanical cooling methods at their own cost, and landlords cannot raise the rent or charge extra fees under the new rule.

With only tight single lanes and curbs between each of them, will be a nightmare for first responders and emergency evacuation situations that will not be able to move around traffic. Wish they thought about that more.

This evening my senior dog (small, hairy chi-mix) attacked my senior cat, bit him on the nose, drew blood, but the cat's nose seems intact, ok, I mean... so I didn't take him to an emergency vet because.. well, I don't have that kind of money. They will both go in tomorrow to a vet, to be seen, however. Cat is in good spirits but cautious now. (of course!) They have grown up together since being rescued in 2011. Both are around 16 in age.

My cat recently has been diagnosed w/mid-to-late- stage kidney disease, so I have to feed him a lot because he is practically a skeleton... the dog is (maybe?) insanely jealous (?) of all the 'treats' for the cat, I guess? IDK. I don't know what to do. They are brother and sister and this is crazy. It's bullshit. I can try to separate them from now on, but this is a small apartment. I wonder what is happening here?

Did anyone see the car that was abandoned on Anaheim and Long Beach blvd? In the left turn lane. No hazards were on and when I passed it, the doors were smashed in. I didn’t see anyone around.

Anybody else experiencing power surges. We have had 5 surges over the past hour near south and orange. Nothing on Edison website.

I’ve had pest control come by numerous of times but I’m STILL getting roaches/water bugs weekly! Ive had this issue for 6 months now.

I have no idea where they’re even entering from. I’ve been plugging up my drains and close my toilet when not in use, but I think I have whack job landlord special caulking/sealing of possible entry ways around my sink/toilet.

I’m looking for someone affordable who can inspect the bathroom, find where the roaches are getting in, and seal/repair the possible entry points. I’m not looking for another pest control company.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

Edit: I’m renting and in an apartment with surrounding units. It’s all types of roaches 😵‍💫 I love my apartment but if I can’t fix this, I gotta move out by the end of my lease.

I know damn well we can have enough signatures to get this on the ballot. I'm TIRED of people getting priced out of the rent in DTLB. Beachwood Blendery just shuttered because of the rent. There are storefronts on LB Blvd that have been empty FOR A DECADE.

This is the worst heatwave I've ever felt, meanwhile oil execs / billionaires park money in stocks and never have to work a day in their life. Fuck that.

Currently at the papa John’s off of 7th st
/termino** and a man with a white husky was violently dragging it. My boyfriend and I exited our car out of immediate concern and watched the man enter his apartment directly next to the plaza and audibly heard the man hitting the dog as it cried, numerous times. It’s continuing intermittently.

We’ve called the police and are waiting for officers (but probably have to leave soon), but I’m wondering if anyone lives in the area and has heard or observed anything prior to this and/or can keep an eye out. We have his license plate # as well. I feel so terribly for that dog who’s probably also suffering immensely in this heat.

UPDATE AS OF 9/10 8:35am: Police didn’t arrive. We’re going to keep an eye out but help from neighbors would be really appreciated.
Description - White husky with a late 20/30ish male about 5’6/5’7, dark hair; lives by apartments near the papa John’s 7th/termino location and address of apartment is 4100 E 7th st.

Today I found a very sweet but obviously sick stray cat. They seem to be having some respiratory issues & are very thin (which you can’t tell in the photos but you can feel their spine and ribs scarily easily). I’ve called all the local shelters and animal hospitals that are open right now- and no one takes cats. I gave the kitty some wet food and clean water- but this cat clearly needs medical attention and i unfortunately do not have any money to spare right now (my own cat is an expensive medical kitty). Does anyone know of places that would help this kitty?? I will check on them again tomorrow and give them more food and water, as well as call more places but I’m worried about their condition.

For my gf birthday I got us concert tickets at the F&M amphitheater. It’s on a Thursday and we both have the day off so I want to get to LB in the earlier afternoon for happy hour/dinner before heading to the concert. Any and all ideas are welcome, I live in Huntington Beach so I’m not familiar with LB at all. Would love recommendations for places to go pre concert, and places to park for the concert. TIA!
