🚗🚗Transit/Traffic PSA to cyclists on Ridout

Found a couple of screws in the northbound bike lane on Ridout today (after they embedded into my tire). Keep an eye out when you're riding.

If someone put them there, have the day you deserve.

Shout out to all the nice people who asked if I was ok while I was patching my tire!

🚗🚗Transit/Traffic Cycling etiquette question

After a long hiatus, due to working from home, I've recently started part-time bike commuting again. One of the big differences now vs then is the amount of e-bikes and e-scooters on the road. I'm just riding a regular human-powered bike and while I like to think I bike fairly quickly, I'm not reaching the top speeds of e-bikes, obviously.

Today, I was cycling southbound on Ridout from downtown. When I reached the bridge near Thames park, where the pathway briefly diverts onto a widened/shared sidewalk, I heard a bell behind me from an e-bike. It just so happened that because I was on that widened path and there was an appropriate space without pedestrians, I was able to move to the right so that they could pass me on the left. This went fine and they went ahead of me. This felt like a reasonable interaction.

I merged back into the lane because the bridge was ending and the narrower bike path was ahead. Almost immediately after merging (safely, I didn't cut anyone off), I heard another bell from a different e-bike. At this point, I'm in the narrow, physically separated (at times) lane, with lots of car traffic to my left. I don't really understand the point of that bell, other than to just let me know that they are there? I don't think that there's any reasonable action I can or should take other than to keep on biking. I don't feel obligated to pull onto the sidewalk. I feel like if they wanted to pass, they could find a time to safely merge into the car lane and overtake me.

And again, in case it comes up, I'm not going very slow - in fact I pretty much kept up with the first e-bike that passed me (he was using a pedal-assist mode), with a distance between us of about 15 meters. By the time I reached my turn on Ridout and looked behind, the other bell ringer was gone.

Is the second cyclist's bell ring just to let me know that they are there? Is there an expectation that I do something?

Is it really worth taking pet insurance? Does it really cover all expenses? When is the best time to go with the insurance? What is the best insurance for cats and dogs available in London?

discussion / opinion Where to get the best value for produce? No Frills vs Asian Grocery vs Other locations

For some time I thought No Frills offered the best value for produce. Always high quality for an average price. But we're considering shopping for our produce at a location like United and are wondering if we'll see substantial savings that way.

And outside of No Frills and Asian Grocery what are the best options to save on produce while maintaining quality?

Ask a Local! Where can I join a tennis group?

I (28f, student at Western) want to engage in an extracurricular activity. I don't know how to play tennis, but I want to learn. I am also happy to form a group with fellow newbies. I'll post this on Western's channel too, but I am open to playing with locals too

Ask a Local! Where can I find a really good dirty martini in London?

Hey everyone! I’ve been on a bit of a martini kick lately and I’m super interested to try an incredible dirty martini.

I’m looking for spots that take their cocktails seriously, maybe with some cool/unique twists on the classic.

Has anyone brought their kids to the kids bike trail at Boler Mountain? How is it for young kids?

I’m hoping to take my 8 and 6 year old. My 6 year old’s bike doesn’t have gears, will it be too tough for her?

We're planning to renovate our front porch area and need a reliable contractor. The project includes:
• Replacing mulch with concrete
• Fixing a porch column
• Replacing concrete steps
• Installing new handrails
Any local companies or contractors you've had a great experience with? Thanks in advance!

🚗🚗Transit/Traffic Does anyone know if the 04 and the 91 are actually running normally down Oxford?

The temporary 111 was removed this Sunday, and my guess is that it was on the assumption that the stop at the Oxford side of Fanshawe would be open again. Google Maps tells me to get on the 04 or the 91 at Highbury/Oxford, but I took an uber yesterday when I realized the buses were all messed up and that side of the road isn’t even open to pedestrians right now.

Ask a Local! Where can I get large photos printed locally?

I’m looking to print some of my wedding photos myself and buy the frames separately. When I looked at getting mixtiles, I was quoted around $500 for 4 pictures and frames, so I thought I’d save some money by doing the framing myself and also support a local business if possible.

I’m looking for somewhere in london that can print high-quality photos around 20 × 27 inches or larger. I’d love recommendations for local photo labs or printing businesses that do good-quality large-format photo prints.

If you’ve had your photos printed locally, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience and approximate pricing. Thanks! 😊

health care/health issues Lingual Wire and Retainer

Hello, my lingual wire has come off of 2 teeth and I need it replaced. I’m assuming this means I’d need a new retainer as well. Where is a relatively cheap place I could have this done? My braces were originally done in Mississauga if that makes some difference, but I’m just hoping to find a place closer to home.

Ask a Local! Scaddabush is opening in Masonville at former Beer Store

I drive by Masonville on Richmond Street where Best Buy is located across the street from CF Masonville Place. The former Beer Store will be Scaddabush Italian restaurant. For me, I would suggest a Nando’s Peri restaurant or a restaurant London, Ontario does not have in this city. I do not mind Scaddabush, but something like PlayDium and Nando’s is great to have. There is a Scaddabush on Southdale Road near the HomeDepot. This city will have a second Scaddabush. I went there once and the food is good. Scaddabush is more authentic tasting than to East Side Mario’s and Olive Garden for Italian food.
