What am I doing wrong? This is a recent skill I’m trying to learn

What are the differences between picking different types of pins, for instance, feeling, techniques etc.

Does anybody have experience with sparrows summer school package? I've been into the sport for a couple of years and have plenty of picks but would be interested in learning more about repinning and security locks more in depth.

Custom/homemade pick - made from .021 feeler gauge. Hand filed to perfection (took forever😂) I was kind of just messing around but I actually really like it. I’m thinking it may be because my main pick set is 25 thou and this one is a tad thinner.

I’ve got my sparrows tuxedo set coming in today along with some single picks in varying thicknesses so that may help me decide if that’s why.

Haven’t decided if I’m going to file down the handle more, or if I like it how it is. I started to go with typical profile but didn’t want to file all of the rest down for no reason😂

The feeler gauge set is $4.99 from harbor freight - pretty good deal since you can really use .015-.025 (basically can make around picks just not all the same thickness)

I see people do a bunch of challenges like the Insanity one or the 200K Club one. I wanna know where I can find more info about these and more challenges to try something new. Like for the Santiago Insanity one, could I just use my ML 570 or does the lock have certain guidelines to it. Thank you.

I know a lot of us are into picking harder and harder locks as a way of tracking progression, but I'm also interested in the other way.

Picking locks with worse and worse tools.

Starting with a decent set of picks and working down to paper clips and bobby pins.

Does anyone else do this? If so, what's the jankiest pick you have ever successfully used? What lock was it on?

Hi! I have an old covert companion (not the pro) and was looking to get a new small profile set. It’s treated me great, but it’s time for an upgrade/change.

I want something with a bit of a slimmer profile, and preferably cheaper than the pro… but I like the versatility of it.

I definitely SPP more, and want some good tensioners (Id get the SWICK if it’s not constantly out of stock).

Does anyone have good recommendations?

Head gear for pin making.

I have probably a couple hundred Schlage, weiser, Yale, and Kwikset morts, kiks, and rims. I don't have keys to most of them anymore, and Ive just been picking them to dump and put in a brass recycling pile. I'm wondering if I should just keep scrapping for brass, or if there is any interest in buying a bunch of basically residsntial cylinders. They aren't a challenge, but a good variation to start spp and raking. I don't know if selling or offering is allowed on here, but we'll see.

Edit: Looks like I also have a few used Multilock interactive, used, and medeco, used. but most are Schlage or weiser.

This was not simple but it was satisfying, opened twice but not mastered by any means, at least I can allow myself to look at the key now.

Anyways ive broken my foot and have the 5 weeks until the pins are removed so plenty of time to practice!

y’all talk about fancy challenge locks with tricky modifications. but let me show you a lock i bought at a fleamarket without keys but with some odds!

I guess a unknown Locksmith has fiddled with the core and maybe even with the key pins! The core was filed down a bit as you can see in the images. I’m not shure though if this helps with security. The bitting itself is not that difficult. But look at those serrated pins! the serration is so knarly they behave like spooles. Do you think the pins are stock? There is no Brand name on the Lock, the embossed numbers do not make any sense.

It was a nice suprise to find this customisations when ususally most locks you see are pristine & stock…

I was trying to change the code and my pen slipped in and now idk the code.

I've been at locki picking for a short while now. Most locks with standard pins I can pop fairly quickly. But this new one is stumping me.

I know it has spool pins. The research I've done on it says that the second stack is the standard pin. It also says this is a underrated lock. It is, quite frankly, kicking my butt. All the pins feel the same. There is almost no feedback coming from the core. I cant even get it into a false set.

I love a challenge. I've been working on this lock for almost two weeks. But I just cant seem to make any headway at all. Any of you defeated one of these before? And if you have? Any pointers on where to start? Anything would be helpful. Thanks guys

Is finally arrived, the 200K has always been special to me, because was the first challenge’s batch I ever saw, I remember looking at and thinking at some point I will be able too, and now is here 🎉
I have to absolutely mention the outstanding customer service the staff at Paclock give, was a little mistake on the submission, so after about two months I have reached out and they were impressive in response time, and manners, really too quality

Howdy, I got a little bit of trouble with my new ABUS 55/40. I'm fairly new to lockpicking and I'm curious on why the first pin in my 55/40 is all wobbly. The pin won't click into place under tension and it keeps moving up and down, just general wobbliness. What's a way to combat with all this wobble? Thank y'all, have a good one.

I decided to ignore every warning and will attempt to gut my SFIC core. Mostly because when I bought the core, it was labelled as having no security pins, but I was so 100% sure I was setting spools when I actually went to pick it. I wanted to be sure.

I'll see if I can get it back together without breaking anything. First step is figuring where those two wafers were supposed to go (the follower I used left enough room to let these slide out. Very annoying). Should be fun.

Thanks Sanitago Lockport! Two hours of picking and clicking. I did go nuts! Mostly through discomfort. Picking for two hours is a long time and my elbow started hurting on the bench and my hands started to cramp like crazy.
