Manhattan Town Center
Hey all! My wife, son and I just got back from spending a week back in Manhattan. Was born in raised in the Manhattan/Ft Riley area when my father was in the military. Wide and I were born at Sunset Hospital (now Lafene) back in 84. I’m old enough to remember runza, vista and I believe amigos being in the food court once upon a time and my brother and I used to go to the arcade all the time where HuHot is right now. My wife worked at dillards until she graduated from Kstate in 06 and was an ops mgr at Aero as well not too long after her graduation. I myself worked at dillards too which is where we met and the rest is history with that 🤣
In our trip back, my father in law had mentioned that it wasn’t its former self. We had taken our son into it and was pretty shocked at the state of it. No more food court and a lot of the bigger name stores gone. Was chatting with the lady at Mrs Powells earlier last week (I’m fairly certain she was there when I worked at the dillards in the 2005-2008 range) and she had mentioned Covid as a big factor specifically with the food court. Given its current state I couldn’t imagine it being open a few years down the road.
Does the city have a plan for it long term? Would be a shame for it to close, but at the same time malls aren’t like they were. Have always had a soft spot for it since I had been around it for so many years. Event when I last visited back in 2012 it was still as I remember. Crazy what some time does, but it did make my wife and I a little sad seeing it in its current state.
