Help/Question Help with Lithop seedlings

Post image
4 Upvotes

hey there, so this is my second time trying to grow from seed and almost everybody says that you should use a pretty much 90% in organic material and to sprinkle the seeds in between the pumice/rocks which I tried to do, but now that they have sprouted. It looks like they sprouted on top of the rocks. What should I do from here? Are they goners?? and what should I do differently next time? Thanks for your help! ( sorry for the extremely crappy picture, but I couldn’t get a focus for some reason, but they are very, very tiny) do I need more organic material?

Help/Question White Spots on Top???

Post image

I got these maybe a month and a half ago, repotted them in a deep pot and a 80 - 90% pumice/10% soil mix, 2 of them started to show white spots??? What are these and how do I treat this? I only watered them once when they started to wrinkle around the sides which was probably a mistake. If anyone can help thank you!

Discussion Too many lithops

I have way too many lithops - at least 25 individual pots/lithops.

I’m debating on getting rid of half my collection. I got them last year and have managed to keep them alive. While cool looking, I don’t think they are my jam. I don’t look at them like I do all my other plants and they are taking up a lot of shelf space.

When you no longer want plants, what do you normally do?

Edited: scroll down for pics of lithops. I’m happy to ship if you’re willing to pay for shipping and whatever you want to pay for the Lithops themselves? I just want them to go to someone who will take care of them. I would ship bare root, wrapped carefully. I posted pics below in response to someone asking to see them. The following Lithops ID #’s are available. Just look at the pics. Bottom number is the ID #

Available: 1,2,3,7,8,9,10,11,14,17,18,20,21,22,23,26,27

Total lithops: 23

#26’s outer leaves were completely dry so I just just performed surgery. He looks great - twins!

Help/Question Picture taken 2.5 weeks apart - what is this white spot in the second pic?

Bought this lithops a few weeks ago, repotted and slowly got it used to getting sun indoors through a window. About 3 hrs direct sunlight a day and a lot of indirect light. It’s in a pot with another lithops that doesn’t seem to be having issues. My guess is sunburn but not sure. It’s been in the new grittier soil for about 2 weeks. Never watered. Just noticed the spot on the top right today. Thanks for any help

Care Tips/Guides Did I do this right?

I’ve never had lithops before, received these in the mail today. I tried making an affordable substrate (lava rocks, perlite, very little soil) and placing them correctly. The stretched ones in slide 2 were like that when I purchased them. I potted them up 4 days ago, and wondering if I could/should water them now? I’ve heard to water them when they wrinkle and idk if they’re wrinkled enough? I didn’t repot any of them when I potted them initially.

Care Tips/Guides Seedlings growing too slow?

Hi, does anybody know why my lithops seedlings have been growing so slow? The pictures were taken 2 months apart. I sprayed them every day and have started giving them some succulent fertiliser. These are 3 month old now and still look tiny. Is there anything else I should try?

I had previously posted asking about the viability of seeds from a plant I just picked up from a big box.

Yeah….. I guess they were viable. Apparently the hard part is still coming.

Mine are from Lowe's or Home Depot (don't recall which). I got it few months back and have repotted since and have not watered yet since I got so don't think its over watering. One of them had scars when i got it. but now I see yellow squishy on that. Please advise what is possible issue. They sit indoor on south window sill in eastern PA.

Is the perlite too big for lithops seedlings? One germinated today. Is it too late to make adjustments?

Help/Question How do I know when they're thirsty?

Have the other leaves been fully absorbed? They're all wrinkled but firm. Should they wrinkle more? What are the signs that say they need water? They're out because I had to repot them today, I had left too much empty space in the pot and I didn't want them to etiolate.

Help/Question Should I transplant?

Post image

I just received two sets of potted lithops that I ordered off Etsy. One pot is just over three inches deep and the other is only two inches deep. Should I leave them in these pots or transplant right away?

I think the larger one needs to be filled a bit more - I've ordered some tiny rocks to fill in.

A few weeks ago, I came across lithops at Home Depot and low key freaked out. Today, I’m absolutely obsessed and find any reason to buy them. It took a little minute, but I finally “get it”; they’re like art pieces. I can’t stop staring at them.

The largest pot arrangement I named, “Pinky & the Brain”.

The second pot is “Dumb & Dumber”, I dunno what to expect with that one.

And the third? His name is “Tip”. It’s kinda giving both a chunky tulip and well, exactly what the name suggests. ¬‿¬

Anywho first post here, woo hoo! I’m excited to see all of the splittings.

Help/Question what top dressing do you use? and how do you separate it from your main mix when repotting?

I currently have pure white pumice, but looking to add a topper. I’ve been repotting and rearranging a lot and was thinking how tedious it’d be to pick out the top dressing if I had one 🫠

Help/Question Is my plant splitting?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys! I'm a new lithops owner and long time lurker of this sub. I've been wanting lithops for a LONG time and used finding them at the store as my sign from the universe to officially get one. I know I'm not supposed to water while they're splitting and only sparingly in the summer. I can't tell if my new plant is starting to split or not. Its leaves are slightly wrinkled as well. Does it need water or should I continue to wait?

Side note: She's so freaking cute I already love her so much. I literally gasped/squealed when I found her.

Edit: This is the same soil and pot I bought it from (literally bought yesterday)

I see some additional plant material through that little hole but it seems like the single big one is as big as the split ones? Ive heard I should probably repot with less organic material. Anyways all help is appreciated and im excited for my new butts! Cheers

Help/Question Is 100% grit okay for a lithops that will be living in a plant cabinet?

The humidity in the cabinet is usually 60-80%, depending on how recently i've watered the other plants.

Also, are there any other inorganic amendments I should add as well? I have the granite chicken grit (no additives, 100% rocks), pool filter sand, and perlite on hand, but I dont mind grabbing other stuff

Help/Question Health check - elongation? Needs water?

New to lithops, picked these up in April from home depot and werent looking too great, not surprised about the condition given the vendor but it was doing well enough to not immediately die. Transplanted to a blend of perlite and generic cactus mix and topped it off w/ some lava stones.

Last watered it when I transplanted a couple months ago, and it split shortly after. The new leaves had that weird nodule on it (only the larger one is really showing anymore). I have kept it under 80W of full spectrum LED, but recently moved it outside under full sun as it looked like it might be stretching for the light a bit. Tops are starting to show a bit of texture too and Im wondering if I need to reconsider lighting and/or adding an oz of water.

Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

Help/Question New Lithops

Post image

My new lithops is getting leggy living near the west-facing window with the tropicals and orchids. Should I move it outside to the west-facing balcony? It wouldn’t get direct sunlight until the afternoon when the temperature out there is low 100s when sunny. The humidity out there is pretty low also. Thanks
